@ masakaliii

Hehe, I have enjoyed our discussion too, mainly because you indulged me and my tangents and musings, that not everyone find amusing.

Seriously, I too hope we bump into each other, though I must confess, I have read many of your reviews in the recently watched movies thread, though you haven't posted in a while.

Micro expressions rule! I haven't majored in anything. 😳 Just like to listen to people's experiences of the world. Thank you for adding your experience to my collection.

The human experience is indeed universal in the general sense but what fascinates me are the personal experiences in the specific sense.

Thank you for sharing. Without sounding patronizing, I truly appreciate it. WIth love, Sabah

And i agree, questions of race are important as well as attempting to deal with the often times difficult answers and then educating people enough to rise above prejudice and discrimination. India is such a webwork of different ethnicities and cultures, we should be embracing it, not boxing ourselves in on one type of female.

Excellent point. I find it extraordinary that people bind themselves by their opinions. That 'cage' is actually their own punishment. However it is when they try to trap others inside, that I find that I cannot just pity them, but try to offer a little help.

It takes people like you, who won't be boxed in by people's judgement. It is more than out of the box thinking but rather breaking out of every box people try to place you in unlike others who just make themselves comfortable in cramped conditions.

With love, Sabah

I think most of the movie directors rope in NRIs and out and out foreigners just to attract more eyeballs than it would if they were to cast your average indian girl. Like it or not, it creates more buzz in the media if a movie features someone "different" from what you see everyday around you and that in turn creates more anticipation among the audience, which in turn paves the way to movie's success in boxoffice. That's what is "lacking" in Indian girls, I guess. But I don't know why it should be considered a shortcoming on their part? It's got more to do with people's fascination with bahar ki murgi, y'know. Ghar ki murgi aka the indian chicks = daal barabar. 😃

That being said, the producers are so wrapped up in looking for whatever sells that they end up overlooking their own backyard and go around hunting potential actresses outside of India for quick money. I mean, come on, India is, like, the second most populated country and it just doesn't sound plausible that you lack talent so much that you have to approach girls from other countries to make your movie sell. I'd rather they mobilized the actresses of their own country. Charity begins at home, ain't it? But I suppose the whole supply/demand thingy is a two-way traffic. To bring in food analogy, you buy locally produced food items to encourage the locally based farmers. Likewise, in order to encourage the producers to cast indian girl, I suppose the audience needs to shun those movies awash with white actors and watch the ones with dark skinned actors, the ones who average indians can actually identify with? I don't know, just saying.

As far as the obsession with fair skin goes, that never ceases to amuse me. Some of them are willing to welcome pug faced clowns and worship the ground they walk on just because they're fair skinned and shun the ones with good facial structure and complexion just because they're dark skinned. Beats me to no end. Sometimes, I can't help but wonder how African Americans would be treated in bollywood. I have never seen one making it big in b'wood.

Oh well..bear with the hodgepodge of ideas there ...and make sense of it if you will.

I like your points VERSACE.
A lot of it is the media giving the audience what they want to see. As long as we continue to portray our heroines in the way we have for the past 50 years, the more uncomfortable the audience is going to feel with portrayal's of any other type of heroine.

Thanks. :)

I don't know how to go about it to resolve this problem but they say the first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge the fact that there is a problem and that, imo, has been achieved at least on this thread.😆 I've also noticed that people hold back from questioning the status quo in the fear of being shunned by others. That's why they just "go with the flow" instead of bringing the problem to attention.

Having an opinion is one thing but that doesn't mean that people completely ignore the other side. Fact is, if Kat had been a few shades darker, than she would never have made it here in India. Why is it that only white skins from abroad make it here? Why not the African Americans? Forget being the lead, african americans wont even be used as background dancers.

In many Asian countries, its the obsession with white skin, in Africa its with straight hair. Fact is we are all victims of colonization, caged by the stereotypical notions of beauty ... fairer, straighter, thinner... A sad trend indeed.

But now there is Priyanka, Sushmita, Konkana, Deepika, Asin and probably Illena. I hope their presence changes the trend slowly and surely. Things are already changing. Remember Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani of KKHH 🤢? At least now we have him in movies with a skin tone slightly closer to real one. Baby steps 😛

grass is always greener on the other side of the pasture...?
why just in india, this is the case in hollywood too... if you are exotic and not your average 'american beauty' (i did not coin this term), then you can make it big here...
as far as standards of beauty go, most people are so stuck on looks... if you are a commercial actress, there is a pressure for you to look good and have a particular weight, etc., it has become all about the looks... the audience is accepting actresses with negligent acting skills just because they look good... i don't blame the actors or actresses... they have no pressure to perform better, but only to look better... most focus on getting fit or building a six pack instead of taking some acting lessons...!
unless people change their attitude, things in the industry are not going to change...!

Indian woman are most beautiful? That's discrimination! Are you calling girls from USA and UK and other places ugly? In fact, not only is that discriminative, it is also racist. Let others test their talent too, anyone can go into Bollywood if they want but not all can be successful. Katrina - although she is a Londoner, she is the best actress in Bollywood, well one of the best and has a huge fan following. Don't diss Nargis and/or Katrina because bashing and dissing is not allowed on this website. And girls from outside India are beautiful. For instance, the beautiful Nina Dobrev from The Vampire Diaries and Kristen Stewart from the Twilight Saga. And beauty is not just from the outside, it has to be from the inside as well, that's why there's a word 'good looking' because beautiful is beautiful in and out and good looking is only from the outside. 😊

If I only date White or Latin American men exclusively, does that make me racist towards Indian, Asian and Black men? Its called having a preference not discrimination. Seriously. 🥱

I'm not dumb! Everyone is beautiful inside or out and some are both . So dont call indian women most beautiful
