Our industry is racist. We still view 'whiter skin' as conventionally beautiful and the norm on what would be considered ideal. It is largely a view fuelled by the British Colonization of India and remains deeply embedded within our society, especially our film industry. Our caste system has also fuelled such a perspective, placing fairer skinned people in the higher tier of society.

People need to understand that color is entirely based on mankinds ability to adapt to our environment, our diet and various factors from way back when we began to evolve into the modern man. Neither white or dark is more or less beautiful than each other. It's all a social construct.

Things are definitely changing in India now, we are getting progressive in matters of caste, color and culture and I hope it continues to. Our film industry needs to be the one that CHANGES public perception of color, not continue to embody ancient racial beliefs.

Don't know what it is, but India seems to have a fascination for firangs. 😕

Choosing actors based on their skin tone is wrong BUT that doesn't mean actors from abroad can't work in India .. They can work in films here in the same way Ash and others tried to make their mark internationally... Every industry in the world has people from other nationalities working with them... Why should India be immune from it 😕?

Forget the audiences, actors themselves should be comfortable in their skin tone .. Nearly every actor tries to look lighter than they are..If they don't respect themselves the way they are than we can't really expect much from others.

PS .. BUT i really hate the trend of blondes as background dancers 🤢. THAT needs to end ASAP

money i guess...and since models can't act...they have to hire firangs to get more limelight...being a firang can give u a lot of publicity itself...

i want to see a full fledged blonde girl making a career in bollywood...😉😆

Simple -Straight fact:

Girls who are talented i.e theatre actors (They can give B'wood actors a run for their money) dont get a direct entry thanks to the 'casting couch' or 'born in filmy khadaan' and many more reasons! (i.e skimpy outfits, doing favors etc etc )

Nothing wrong in bringing outside talent - but bring talent not their looks ... Denise richards, Sylvester Stallone were wasted in a movie like Kambakkht Ishq

@princess - Freida's acting skills are nothing to write home about but she has marketed herself well and hence she is a celebrity now. Honestly speaking, she is in Hollywood what Kat is in Bolly. Foreign press mostly calls Ash "world's most beautiful woman". So her ticket to fame is her beauty and not her acting.

Every industry wants a touch of the "exotic" .. Ash and Freida are that for them ... u know a fantasy? just as Kat and Nargis etc are for the Indian film industry. Its a sad trend though

And i truly think and those who want to be "actors" in the real sense of the word restrict themselves to theater or parallel cinema. Only the ones who want to lead the glamorous lives of a "star" try to make in filmdom. And again, there isnt an industry around now which doesn't have people wanting to be stars instead of actors. Here is to hoping that movie goers start to appreciate actors instead of mannequins. For the industry to change, audiences will have to change their perceptions first

PS … not trying to be argumentative… Will go back to my mundane studies soon .. This is just a tiny break 😳

@Arwen - You touched a good point... There isnt an industry now that wants actors.. they only want stars!

Audience wont be able to change their perception because very few are going in for a good movie - most are going for their favorites! or the item song! or the actor/actress is good looking! Pick old b'wood movies you will see a variety .. now a days its the same thing... Its after all 'Business' money speaks for them..Now a days - the fans are blind they would support a star at any cost but this one thing that I have seen alot in Bollywood.

Before I go off track!

I do agree with most of your points! -And you are always welcome to comment 😊good luck with your studies
