Love is in the air

An Air force station can pretty much be an unusual place for a movie promotion, but the name Mausam justifies everything. So, bang on time (Celebrity actors reaching on time is a rarity), the star cast of the movie Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor make an appearance at the air force station at an organised press interaction (Well organised are yet another rare phenomenon) on Sunday evening. No time lost, it was straight 'lets get to the point about the movie.'

The obvious volley was received in nice spirit by the otherwise shy actor Shahid. Controversy — regarding a nod from the air force- this had to be it. "The movie Mausam has been shot keeping all considerations in mind. We have tried to keep the script and the treatment as genuine as possible. There is a slight issue with a 30 second shot that would be taken care of," shares Shahid ready for more darts. Working with father Pankaj Kapoor, the director of the movie and also working as a spot boy on the sets, the mention brings a smile on Shahid's face. "I had to literally run after my father to get him to write the script of Mausam. He took his time and only after he was convinced about the subject, and whom he would cast as an actor, did he write the script. My father took nearly two years to say yes to the project," he says. And what was working as a part time spot boy on the sets. Smiles, "It was like going back to the acting school and doing everything. On sets I am an actor, at the same time I am working with my father. So, I do whatever is expected of me as a son." Oops, there you go.

In all this conversation, did we forget to drop in an important name? It would be crime, or lets say a fashion crime not miss out on this one. All this while, a petite, traditionally dressed in white churidaar actor looks on. Sonam Kapoor, the fashion icon held on the glass she was served juice in! Quiet like she holds on to her chirpiness. The radar is shifted, reasons for working in Mausam. "It is a love story and I guess everybody in my generation needs some dream. Besides, Mausam has love has the bottomline, which is change from otherwise corruption and terror that we face everyday," provides Sonam. Hey, how can we not ask her about the plain and simple look she carries in the movie? No make up could be horrifying for any actor. "It wasn't. I carried the no make up in Delhi 6, so I didn't have any problem in Mausam. Besides, I would take just 10 minutes to get ready for the shoot. By the way Shahid takes much long to get ready," she adds with a puckish grin, shifting the radar on Shahid, the actor who sports a neat look for the movie.

Each ribbon on an Air Warriors chest narrates a story, an Air Force officer at the conference had mentioned. Mausam too one in the seasons of love.

Shahid Kapoor's Birthday Gift: Mausam

Mausam is Shahid Kapoor's first project with his father Pankaj Kapur. But how exactly did the Kaminey actor land the project? Here's how:

Shahid Kapoor's father, Pankaj Kapur, gave him the final script of Mausam to read, on the former's birthday two years ago (in February 2009). So, in a way, the film was dad's birthday gift to his son. And what did Shahid give his pa as a return gift? His nod to the project!

Lessons From Father

While on Shahid Kapoor and his actor-director-dad, Pankaj Kapur, there's one thing about acting the son has learnt from his father. And that is: less is more. Says Shahid, "Even before my dad started directing me inMausam, he had told me, I didn't need to give too many expressions to make a point. He told me, less is more, in acting."

Sonam-Shahid: friends or foes?

It's difficult to define the relationship between Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor. There are times when the two look extremely comfortable in each other's company. And then, at other times, the friction between them is so obvious that however hard they try and cover it up, it's still visible

Recently, on a game show, Shahid and Sonam were seen making cracks about each other every now and then. If we had to describe the confab between them, it looked like they were playing the 'who takes the better dig' game. Not too long ago, they made an appearance in an interview and were so sweet and saccharine to each other that the host had to try really hard to incorporate something controversial to spice up his show. Apparently during the shoot as well, Pankaj Kapoor (director of Mausam) asked them to write love letters to each other to build up the chemistry between them. Now Shahid and Sonam are really confusing us with their vicious weapons and sweet diplomatic tactics. Are they foes who endure each other only because they have to play the promotional game for their movie? Or they are just buddies who quarrel every once in a while and forget about it later? Well, while we try and figure out the ambivalent relationship between these two, they can continue playing the boring fencing game.
