Ethics and aesthetics

Can you separate the ethics from the aesthetics? Do you have any moral objection towards films being made which is based on extramarital affairs, promiscuity, murder, violence, et al?

Do you find it difficult to digest such films?

Also, how about watching movies that stars or is directed by or in some way related to people who are rapists, murderers, cheaters, etc?

I think I am okay with the first one. I may find some things objectionable, but I see no reason why they shouldn't be in the market, so long that children and the likes are prevented from watching such materials. But the latter...is tricky. On one hand, a film is made by a large many number of people, so we aren't exclusively paying one specific person for his or her effort. On the other hand, many criminals have gone unpunished, and watching their movies is equivalent to (directly or indirectly) paying them a living to stay well and healthy - which is exactly what they don't deserve.

So, what's your view on it?

P.S. I know this isn't exclusively related to Bollywood, but I am mostly talking about the showbiz world here, so posted it right here. If moderators have any problems with this thread, then I will urge them to just close it instead of trashing it - so that I can repost it in some other sections of this site.

couldn't agree more with you on that..

I honestly never cared.. i watch the films for entertainment.. murder/violence is doable..😆 KANK was the last movie i watched on extramarital affairs.. hated the concept and the story.. acting was pretty bad too.. SRK sucked big time.. (not suck in that sense..😆)

I agree did not like that movie either. It showed a lack on morals IMO. Now the rumors, going on these days are so similar to this movie. I hope its just publicity and not true.

There are certain criminals in Bollywood who can get away with anything... it doesn't matter whether they've killed anyone or not, the fans/bhakts don't care, and don't want to know about it.

As for the types of films made, it doesn't bother me, as long as it's engaging.

Interesting question.

I can live with the first one - I have no problem with art that is morally objectionable to me personally. For example, I love Lolita, despite the fact that the entire premise of the novel is morally reprehensible to me. I don't condone, understand or care about paedophiles, in real life. But it is art , and for that, I can see it for what it is - a well-written and humorous tale. My problem with KANK was not the angle of the extra-marital affair; it was the sheer remorselessness at the characters of SRK and Rani who never seemed to realise that their actions had consequences. In real life, people who cheat on their spouses are not, by some miracle, urged by those very spouses to get together, because, after all, the "love" each other. Breaking up marriages and families have real cause and effect in the real world. KJo's Disney fairytale version of an extra-marital affair holds no water or sympathy with me.

On the other hand, I find it very difficult to watch anything by, for example, Roman Polanski or Woody Allen. Great directors they might be, but I personally cannot palate some of their extra-curricular behaviour. I believe also that from now on, I could not watch a Shiney Ahuja film without feeling a little sick. Even some of his older films, like Gangster which I love, I find it hard to separate the actor from the character. But then again, as you say, there are so many other people associated with each project that the lines of what are acceptable or not become murky.

I think in this FORUM, Every Single person is a "CRIMINAL" if a File is Registered Against him in any Police Station...

If u gonna decide Salman Khan is a "Criminal" then what the F U C K is use of Making RULES OF THIS FORUM " NO CELEB BASH "... Openly Members here on their Personal HATRED go on and on calling him a "CRIMINAL / MURDERER"????

So Many JUDGE Sitting over here EveryDay whining on Same thing... 😆

Did Salman Khan Ran Away From COUNTRY?

From 1998 - This Date, Has he not following any Procedure for CaSe which INDIAN LAW Directs??

Go and give the proofs so that Judge can Declare him CRIMINAL, then do the Bhangra in this forum forever...

Without any Judgement calling a Person "CRIMINAL" is also a Pathetic Characteristics...
