No, she isn't. As Meena1 said white =/ fair.
Also, she doesn't generalize but that quote does.

she may not be related to bollywood, but her comment is, and I quote again,"But the whole idea that you have to be fair – without naming actors, but there are actors who admit it – the fairer you are, the easier it is."

The title here is very misleading...
Where does she say Indians want to be white... She did not even say most Indians... I have read the entire interview in the Independent and no where does she generalise Indians...
She just said that people are fascinated with white skin in India...And I think there is truth to what she says... There is a fixation with light skin... Every other ad on TV is related to fairness... Open a newspaper and the matrimonial ads say looking for fair girls... Even in the employment columns I see ads that say Fair, Goodlooking girls needed...Definitely the bias ... the fixation... the preference exists...
Not every Indian has this fascination but yes a good number of people definitely do...
Regarding the rest of the interview, in some places I found here tone very condescending which I did not like...

Fairness creams are not only marketed towards women but men also. I remember reading a article on cnn.com and they showed Shahid Kapoor endorsing one of the fairness cream for men product.

I agree with Pinto darling. Majority of the Indian crave for skin fairness.

only shahid...wht abt badshah who endorses fair and handsome ... and he also endorsed LUX SOAP saying yeh hai meri khubsurti ka raaz...man tht was so GAY🤢 m sure tht would be directed by karan johar 🤣

akshay made fun of shahrukh tht men shouldn;t worry abt complexion...smartness is important than fairness...but today almost 60 % of young boys in metros uses these creams and soaps GROSS

I dont like her attitude towards the cheesy things she talks about...they're apparently "stupid" to her...:S sweetheart that's what you did before you got lucky. Don't badmouth the job you once had.
