While having a dream debut in Bollywood is always desirable, it is not necessary to succeed in Bollywood. Infact, when it comes heroines, most of the superstars didn't have a dream debut. And for those who had dream debut, most of them are already forgotten or had an abrupt ending to their career.

Here is our list of Top Eight heroines who made big, even with a bad debut.

Number 8 - Preity Zinta (Dil Se, 1998)

Preity Zinta made her Bollywood entry playing second fiddle to Manisha Koirala. The Liril girl made her presence felt in the small role she had in the movie Dil Se. Rather than getting type cased as supporting actress, Preity grew up to become one of the successful heroines, with multiple hits. We love Preity because she knows her mind and she knows what she wants and usually gets it. Preity is so spunky , full of possitive energy and a great actress. Preity has a way of capturing her audience attention. Preity's infectious bubbliness and super cute dimples made her darling of the masses.

Number 7 - Rani Mukerji (Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, 1997)

Rani Mukerji was that short, slightly overweight and husky voice girl, that would have never succeeded in the image conscious Bollywood. Infact, she was flop with her debug movie Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. Lucky for Rani, the song Chalti Kya Khandala was a major hit in her second movie Ghulam. The Khandala girl got a big boost from the song and with her next movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rani made sure she was in the film industry for a long time. Over the years, Rani became the chic girl. With her strong performances in the movies Hum Tum and Black, Rani won consecutive Filmfare awards. Rani makes one say, wonderful things do come in small package.

Number 6 - Katrina Kaif (Boom, 2003)

Watching Katrina Kaif in her debut movie Boom was such a pain to watch. Actually her first few movies was just a torture. This english lash was one of the imports that was destined to fail miserably with her accented english and broken hindi. But as it plays, Katrina was not ready to call quits. Slowly and steadily, Katrina started raising to the occasion by performing better and better. Suddenly, Katrina was dubbing her own dialogues and doing decent dancing and decent acting. Katrina's hard work made her overcome her disadvantages and became a very successful actor. Offcourse, Katrina being dead drop gorgeous also helped.

Number 5 - Aishwarya Rai (Aur Pyar Ho Gaya - 1997)

Expectations were really high from Aishwarya Rai, when she entered Bollywood. With the slow start Aishwarya had, it was feared, her failure will prove models can't act. Having won Miss World and often considered as the most beautiful girl in the world, Aishwarya gave four flops before producing the super hit movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. After that, Aishwarya gave hits after hits. Miss Rai proved, models can be super successful in Bollywood. Aishwarya quickly rose to grab the number uno position in Bollywood. Some critics argue, Aishwarya can't act and has been successful only for her looks, while others argue, its tough getting people to look away from her blinding splendour and recognise her talent. Nevertheless, Aishwarya is the only actress from the subcontinent, who is universally recognized. Number 4 - Juhi Chawla (Sultana, 1986)

India's sweetheart, Juhi Chawla didn't have it easy in Bollywood. Probably, winning Miss India for Juhi was easier. It took Juhi two years when she got break-through in the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Among the Bollywood actresses, Juhi has the best comic timing. Her smile and laughter has the power to brighten up the whole room. At the time, when Mamta Kulkarni's of Bollywood were ready to bare all, Juhi established herself without compromising. She was a bit low on sex appeal, but made it with feel good factor. Juhi, we salute you for providing us the wholesome entertainment without compromising on vulgarity and cheapness. Number 3 - Karisma Kapoor (Prem Qaidi, 1991)

Karisma Kapoor was slammed for her acting capabilities in her debut movie Prem Qaidi. Actually, Karisma Kapoor was mocked for a long time for every thing she did, be it acting, fashion, or choice of movies. It took a while, but eventually Karisma proved her critics wrong. Karisma transformed herself into a beautiful, hot, sexy, powerful, and sought after actress. In early days of her career, Karisma excelled in comedy pairing along Govinda. Then Raja Hindustani happened to her and she once again proved she can act in serious roles as well. Karisma won her first Filmfare award for Raja Hindustani. Karisma later worked in many hits. Her dance in the movie Dil To Pagal Hai was second to none, giving tough competition to the dancing queen, Madhuri Dixit. Karisma showed that absolute professionalism and single-minded dedication will bring you success.
