Hey all

okay..one i think i never understood was all the hype behind subhash ghai...

most ppl dismiss his recent films (post-yaadein) to be a bad phase saying he "lost his touch"...but wht was so special about his previous films in the first place?

karzz, saudagar, hero, karma, pardes, taal....why are these considered gr8 cinema?? why is/was subhash ghai hailed with the tag of "showman", and considered some sort of a successor to raj kapoor (i admit raj kapoor is overrated but he is not that bad to be compared to subhash ghai!)...

The only thing which i noticed has been consistently good in his films was the music, which is not even his feat, its the music director's job! ...

so what is so special abt this guy?? why was he ever considered a "gr8 filmmaker"

enlighten me plzz.

lol meena! i didnt know u were a fan of his movies!! ...

i agree the music and picturisation were gr8...but the movies as such were nothing special enough to be hailed as "classics" or something...they were strictly avg films naa!!

I only saw Pardes and Taal, but I think its because he made sorta "artsy" films but he didn't forget his story-lines in the process.

I watched that Nahin Saamne song above and I couldn't help but think that this is where SLB falls flat; Subhash Ghai very subtly added in the cinematography to enhance his actors and his story-lines but he never let it dominate his films. I don't think he was a ground-breaking director or anything but he seemed to take great thought in making his films, which is lacking in a lot of directors today

Taal's music was phenomenal, especially the two versions of Taal and Ishq Bina each. But when you have A. R. Rahman, that's usually what happens😆

Smartie - i don't watch that many films to know whats considered average whts a hit.. 😆...

with these movies.. i guess since i grew up on them.. i like them.. but even today.. i can watch them without skipping a scene.. whereas thats not the case with any new film.. (few that i actually tortured myself into watching.. 5 minutes max).. 😆

His movies up until Yaadein very pretty decent and watchable....Taal, Pardes, Saudagar, Hero, Karz, Merijung, Karma etc...were all a good watch...

From early 2000 things went down hill....

I loved Aishwarya in Taal and I wanted to be SRK in Pardes. His songs too were nicely done. (L)....Better than whatever's churned out such days. I overlook his recent Yuvraaj, LOL!
