@Jess - I agree with you when you say that even if JWM was remade with Shahid and Kareena, it still would not be the same. Many times I've wondered what it would be like - creatively - if DDLJ were remade with all the same actors/writers/crew etc (when Amrish Puri was still around, obv). But that's on a creative level that I would be interested in seeing - how would the gap of 16 years affect the actors/their perfomances? But I have no doubt that even a DDLJ remake with the same people would not be as good as the original.

Whatever we say about movies, even if they are "classics" or "timeless" or whatever...there are myriad factors that make a film what it is. A film captures the time it was made, it captures that magical moment that catapulted that film from average to good, good to great. It also captures a mood, of the actors, the audience, the fans. Something released in 1995 might become the biggest hit of the decade; but if that same thing was released in 2011, would it have the same effect? Of course, a product speaks for itself - what's good then is good now. But there's so many other things that affect the success of a product. No matter what, you can't recapture that moment. That's like taking a picture of something, returning to it years later and retaking the picture of the same thing and expecting it to be the same. It will never be the same.

That said, it's such a ridiculous idea to even consider that a TV show could be half of JWM, even with Imtiaz at the helm. Kareena was Geet, Shahid was Aditya. I don't even like these two that much, but I would still defy anyone to say that anyone else could have played these characters better! Certainly this latest crop of Tellywood "actors", who should be sued for even daring to call themselves that (someone had it right calling them "planks of wood" 🤔). I don't want Geet to become some loud-mouth, over the top, screechy, shrieky fishwife in the name of being "chulbuli" , and nor do I want to see this loud-mouth, over the top, screechy, shrieky fishwife being played by someone who can't move so much as a muscle in her face.

You know, if someone had told me then that I would actually welcome or miss Ekta's shows or her "school" of acting....I would have killed them, dumped their bodies off a cliff, brought them back to life and killed them again 🤣 My God, but those days we were desperate to see something other than Ekta's over the top, melodramatic, head-banging rubbish. Who knew that the alternative was even worse?! At least Ekta - in the early days, at least. During the dying phase of her illustrious career she started picking 12 year old, pimply faced actresses to play the leads - knew how to pick her actors! At least they could lay some claim to the term, and at least their faces moved, for the love of God! 😆 Never have I despaired so much at the state of Indian TV as now....they say hindsight is 20:20 - what I would give to have the Ekta glory days back, no one will believe 😆

I disagree. most of these soaps r merely successfull bcz of the girl actresses acting (mostly crying) not bcz of actor being hot. 😆

But in the end, people have accepted Kareena as Geet, personally I think even if they made a sequel to JWM, with kareena & shahid, it wouldn't be as good as the first

I don't think it will be either. Chemistry they had at the time is not there any more. 😳

JWM is a classic and Kareena and Shahid were perfect for their roles..don't think this is a very good idea.

As for Ekta, whatever might have happened to her shows by the end of it, compared to today's batch of shows, hers are Emmy-worthy. Atleast in her shows, the actors knew how to act. Now it's a miracle if they even know the a of acting forget the ACT in acting.

The only TV production house who makes quality shows is YRF.

I agree. you can't make a classic film as good as it was especially with these kind of actors. 😳
