From Maine Pyar Kiya to Veer, Salman Khan has come a long way donning various looks for various roles. Filmfare handpicks some of them.

1989
Maine pyar kiya

Just the kind of guy girls would have a crush on. Salman Khan was all of that in Maine Pyar Kiya. With charming boyish looks, Salman instantly became a star after MPK released. He didn't even have a bod to boast of then. But his wavy mop, toothy grin and the black, biker leather jacket had the girls screaming for more.

1991
Saajan

As Sanjay Dutt's younger brother, Salman's mullets came to be noticed for the first time when they touched his collarbone. His long baggy trousers and printed shirts though didn't exactly do much to improve his looks yet he survived the trend of the time.

1991
Sanam Bewafa

This Sawan Kumar Tak film took the box office by storm when it released and further consolidated his position as a top star as it came soon after his 1990 super hit Baaghi. As the heir apparent of Pathan family, Salman's get up in this film was pretty traditional. He was mostly dressed in a Pathani suits, sherwanis et al.

1991
Patthar Ke Phool

Playing a police officer, Salman was partly dressed in khakhi uniform. That's when he was not singing and dancing around with Raveena Tandon in his tight-fitting jeans and turtle neck t-shirts.

1992
Suryavanshi

Does he look somewhat like warrior prince in the accompanying pic? Yeah, may be but a bit cuckoo. But a year after Saajan was a super-duper hit, the producers thought that just by making Salman to wear a golden wig and hold a fake sword, the sun would smile on this film. Sorry, it didn't.

1994
Andaz Apna Apna

As a conman trying to outdo Aamir Khan in winning the affections of an heiress, Salman's looks or dressing style in this film was nothing to sing about. But yeah he did sport hair, which tapered, up
to his collarbone.

1994
Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!

In this Sooraj Barjatya film, which proved to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Salman's career, as the quintessential Prem he was dressed in bright colours to give his character a young, peppy feel. He wore his hairstyle normal. If Madhuri's purple lehnga choli became a rage, then so did Sallu's somewhat gaudy oversized waistcoat.

1996
Khamoshi:The Musical

Innocent, untouched, the kind of guy girls would have a crush on. Salman Khan was all of that in Maine Pyar Kiya. With charming boyish looks, Salman instantly became a star after MPK released. And he didn't even have a bod to boast of then. But his wavy mop, toothy grin and black Harley Davidson leather jackets had the girls screaming for more.

1998
Jab Pyar Kissise Hota Hai

In the major part of the film Salman is a playboy, so you mostly see him in flashy attire. He had a normal hairstyle and the only accessory he flaunted was a silver earring in one ear.

1998
Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya

Hit it. Oh oh jaane jaana! Okay this was where we first got a glimpse of those famous pecs. Salman took off his shirt and the world went mad. Life was never the same again and because Salman was aware of this, it became a forgone conclusion that he would henceforth strip in all his films.

1999
Biwi No 1

He's the young husband who takes to philandering. Sartorially Salman had to match up to the ultra glam Sushmita Sen in the film. He looked terrific and was in top form even when he was dancing right next to the super tall Sush.

1999
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

As a boy of Indo-Italian parentage who wants to learn Indian classical music from Pandit Darbar, Aishwarya Rai's father in the film, Salman wore traditional outfits ' kurtas, sherwanis, teaming them with bandhni motifs. And of course the stud in his ear kept appearing and disappearing. In his videshi avatar he was dressed in better fitting jackets and coats than we have seen on the best.

2003
Tere Naam

Just when the box office was not being very kind to Salman, he landed with a bang with Tere Naam. As a rowdy collegian in the first half, his hairstyle became an instant craze with all the Romeos on the streets emulating it to good effect even now. In fact you will see seedy posters of this look displayed even today outside your local barber's shop. In the second half, when he's in a mental asylum, the mental patient variety close crop garnered sympathy for his character.

2004
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi

The hairstyle was weird. The clothes all wrong but yet he had the attitude and along with Akshay Kumar got the junta to say thumbs up to this project. Hey, he even wore a skirt made of grass blades in the title song.

2005
No Entry

In No Entry Salman looked just the way he looked in real life. As a Casanova who urges his friends to cheat on their wives, he appears in cool, hip in a spiky gelled look. But when he's with his wife, Esha Deol, he's dressed a lot more conservatively.

2009
Wanted

Though it was finally revealed in the end that he was an undercover cop, Salman played along doing the roadside tapori act sporting a bandana with lan. His checked shirts over the white vests worked as a jacket. But how his hair suddenly grew longer in the songs that were picturised in Greece is beyond us.

2009
London Dreams

As the dishevelled Punjabi, rustic rockstar Salman wore dark coloured kurtas, topping them with cardigans and a muffler. While the film tanked, Salman's dehati act was a hit.

2010
Veer

A warrior meets gladiator meets Troy look. That was Salman for you in Veer, a period drama set in another century. His look was a definite improvement on his Suryavanshi nightmare. Salman may have had a good time galloping around in the film but Veer failed to make it to the finishing line at the BO.
