Actually MNIK is doing great everywhere ---- on twitter many people say that they couldn't get tickets because all was sold out --- so it's fake news..the movie is still doing great.....
And IF members who haven't seen it yet - go!!! SRKajol are sweet......

I have to disagree here. How many movies on a great issue are well made? Can't blame the audience there.
Even 3 Idiots, which was the biggest hit of the year and had a great message had the 'entertainment factor', which increased it's repeat value. I have watched it three times already and am planning to get the DVD as well.
MNIK I haven't even planned to watch, because in all honesty, I am absolutely tired of the theme it's made on. Can't say how it will be, but I was extremely disappointed with Kurbaan. I realize that there are many people who liked the movie, which is fine too. Everyone has different choices.
However, just because a movie is a comedy, does not automatically means it is trash, and just because a movie deals with a serious subject, does not automatically means it will be great.

Sorry to butt in the debate, but you're presuming too much here. Whether the film is well made or not is strictly subjective and depends on the person viewing it. Besides, I don't think that the post maker said that the films (like MNIK) are rejected on the basis of their quality, they're rejected solely on the basis of the theme they tackle, which apparently people find too 'boring'.
I think we're hardly debating on the quality of films here, we're talking about how certain over-used formulas are blindly accepted by the audience and there is hardly any room for something new. That is, ofcourse, unless you mean that MNIK (or any other film made on terrorism) should be sprinkled with the regular bollywood mirch-masala to make it acceptable by the 'audience'.
As far as the comedy factor is concerned, I think what majorly constitutes Bollywood humour is slapstick jokes, doesn't necessarily have to be bad, but the film is widely accepted even if it is bad. Same thing can't be said for some other genre. So we come back to the same thing - It is the theme that is being rejected, not the quality.
3 Idiots was an entertaining flick, mainstream bollywood commercial film that had all the ingredients in the right place. 3 Idiots had it's fare share of loopholes and OTT moments, but the audience tend to overlook the OTT scenes in such films because of the 'entertaining factor'. 3 Idiots wasn't the best piece of art to have graced our cinema, Raju Hirani has this knack for including the 'mass appeal' in all his films no matter what the theme is, and 3I is no different.
Ofcourse, people tend to grow tired of such themes pretty quickly. Leave alone MNIK, films like Black Friday, A Wednesday, Firaaq, Gulaal etc didn't do well simply because people are not interested in the theme. All these films were extremely well made and never got their due credit, IMO. Now imagine that had the director introduced a Rakhi Sawant item number halfway through in these films, I'm pretty sure that the sales would have gone a tad bit higher.

Totally endorse your post !!!!!!!
Liking a movie is totally subjective --- ....
And yes for a a theme such as dealt in MNIK --- it's pretty unconventional that it gets that success...
Happy!

Its the stale theme that's also to blame for Kurbaan's failure.
With such a reputed banner, and three strong actors, Kurbaan failed ot rake in the moolah despite good reviews.
Audiences are sick and tired of terrorism. I wish the makers had paced their movies apart, but three movies on terrorism all release in the same year was a MAJOR MAJOR blunder. Especially kjohar.
Why make MNIK and Kurbaan both under your banner, with the same basic genre?

wat good reviews??
MNIK got no less then 4/5 in all its reviews and KURBAAN got an average of like 3, MNIK is all set to break the records of 3 idiots, MNIK is not a film in which people bomb places, and have un-passionate love-making scenes, its a love story, it is a story about human spirit, love and honesty, and speaks volumes about the muslim identity, once this movie is dun with its run we will see the difference in the money both the films have made, they are so many movies that do well that have 'terrorism' as their theme the film ROSA did soo well which did not even have a popular star cast, also the film 'dil se' doesn't matter what the theme is the film needs to be well made, a good movie that touches ones heart will always do well!!
