It's not surprising. It was SRK and Kajol's power that guaranteed a huge opening, even record breaking internationally.

But it's totally up to the movie content to take it from there. I've always said the movie's theme is not the kind where it'll find repeat audience. It's too serious a movie, and these days...mostly comedies work.

Don't care too much about BO, but am happy that it opened so huge, and was appreciated by many.

Kojol to me was over the top, annoying, screaming as usual...no surprise with her performance either...i just want her to tone down a bit PLZ.

as for the movie, omg it dragged and bored me to death at the end. it just went all the over the place, from india to US to flood to president..and wat not😳 i really request indian filmmakers to leave US post 9/11 topic, it's over done with...people in US have moved on, and they need to too. enough already🥱

I totally agree....with your post. Watched it over the weekend. If it was not for SRK and Kajol I am sure it would be just considered average.

Btw, I am a big SRK fan..and I loved his acting..I am just being objective and honest here.

Its the stale theme that's also to blame for Kurbaan's failure.
With such a reputed banner, and three strong actors, Kurbaan failed ot rake in the moolah despite good reviews.
Audiences are sick and tired of terrorism. I wish the makers had paced their movies apart, but three movies on terrorism all release in the same year was a MAJOR MAJOR blunder. Especially kjohar.
Why make MNIK and Kurbaan both under your banner, with the same basic genre?

I actually found Kurbaan to be pretty hard hitting but a bit away from reality.

I saw the movie as well finally but I probably should have studied for my exam. The movie deserves no more than 2.5 out of 5, and I wished I had not compromised my studying time for such a below average flick.
People in the United States and Americans have moved on, can the pseudo intellect directors in India finally also move on from the subject. The lack of research and depth in these sort of films is absolutely hillarious. Global terrorism, homeland security, regional tensions yadda yadda yadda all need solid back up, not superficial reasearch. If it weren't for SRK - Kajol, the movie would have most likely been a twin of Kurbaan.
Anyways, I completely agree with your post freakyy, and I guess when I cease to feel guilty for viewing this film over opting to revise for my exam, I will write up a decent review for why it deserved a 2.5/5.

It actually is saddening. Besides, it also depends on how one defines 'Entertainment'. For 90% of the Indian audience, entertainment entails - slapstick humour, cliched romance and dialogues, and basically a feel good factor at the end of the day.

I have to disagree here. How many movies on a great issue are well made? Can't blame the audience there.
Even 3 Idiots, which was the biggest hit of the year and had a great message had the 'entertainment factor', which increased it's repeat value. I have watched it three times already and am planning to get the DVD as well.
MNIK I haven't even planned to watch, because in all honesty, I am absolutely tired of the theme it's made on. Can't say how it will be, but I was extremely disappointed with Kurbaan. I realize that there are many people who liked the movie, which is fine too. Everyone has different choices.
However, just because a movie is a comedy, does not automatically means it is trash, and just because a movie deals with a serious subject, does not automatically means it will be great.

No way Kurbaan can be compared with MNIK Kurbaan did not have theme or message in the movie
But MNIK has a very strong massage that not every muslim is a terrorist
Very strong and good intellegent message that every good person cannot be evil
I like MNIK just due to there are bad and good in every community
No matter whatever community it could be
Shiv sena has proved that there are bad in every community
