Since we are discussing performances of all female actors here, I have to mention Deepika in Love Aajkal.

LAK is one of my favorite movies of 2009. Loved her as Meera and agree to what TOI has to say about Deepika.

"Deepika Padukone in Love Aaj Kal was such a rousing portrait of fragility, femininity and strength!"

I am glad there are many who loved her as Meera. She was the unconventional female lead.

LAK was one of the biggest hits of 2009 but then CC2C was one of the worst of the same year.

Considering that WYR gave Priyanka a series of one-quirk-per-character roles and she managed to actually add depth to many of them and lift them up from caricature proves to me that she is versatile. What let the film down was the writing of the characters who weren't given enough meat - but still Priyanka managed to rise above that in an otherwise horrible film. I also like that she is willing to take risks and did unlikable characters (not often accepted in typical bollywood) so early on in her career - like Aitraaz. She has also worked with actors like Uday and Harman and takes on projects where she's the sole draw in terms of stars - Fashion, 7 Husbands.

Also interesting that Raja Sen and Rajeev Masand's top three choices differ a bit but the only common factor - Priyanka in Kaminey. Sweety is definitely a memorable character for many.

I also like Vidya a lot. She's looking fantastic in Ishqiya. I hope she keeps doing stuff like that and doesn't go for the KiKo and Heyy Babyy type roles which really don't suit her.

Another actress I liked a lot this year was Ayesha Mohan in Gulaal. That film is filled with such powerful performances. And nice to see newcomers like her, Kalki, Mahie and Jesse Randhawa leave veterans like Kirron Kher far behind in terms of performance.

It was defently Katrina's year for sure she gived fantastic powerful performance in New York her acting was just out standing and the way she portrayed the role of a college girl was just perfect no actress have portrayed the role of a college girl like Katrina did in New York she did only go to college for sometime and its fantastic that she still portrayed the role soo real unlike other atcresses when they portray college girls then they try to show atitude, style and use slang because thats exactly how they think a typical college girl is like... DEFENTLY NOT.

I loved how she portrayed the role of a wife she tried every way to make her husband happy and was always by his side i was shocked the way she portrayed the role of a mother because it was her first time and i didnt expect that she would portray the role of a mother so well for the firts time she portrayed it.... it looked so real i loved how she portrayed the role of a college girl, wife, mother and friend! her acting was awesome and ehr expresions was just woow
also in APKGK she gived an fantastic performance she had perfect comic timing and her hindi have improved soo soo soo much. she maked me laugh soo much her dialouge delivery was too good and her expresions was to die for loved her emtional scenes too she was out standing in APKGK and i think she is the only actress of the once today who have such fantastic comic timing no one have such good comic timing like her from the actress today...
also this year she didnt do movies with any of the Khans, only with akki expect him with no other big stars... in fact she did work with new comers like Neil & Ranbir and her moveis became one of the most biggests hits of 2009 New York just camed out after the strike and at that time the industry was scared to set their movies for release because they wasnt sure if audience was ready again to go to the cinema's.. New York was the first movie which released 3 weeks after the strike and it did fantastic well because of the performances of the cast and the story etc....
not only Katrina's movies but also her endorsments etc.. have been fantastic this year and every brand wants to sign her as their brand ambassador etc...
I dont think i need to say all the awards and polls she won this year be it Rajiv Gandhi awards, winning polls like sexiest asian women again this year and many many more awards and polls...
she have had an fantastic year be it movies, box office, endorsments, awards, magazines etc.....
she is the most deserving actress to get the best actress awards for her performance in New York..
also 2010 looks like an awesome year for Katrina Raajneeti is one of the most awaited movies ever first of all it have the best cast ever and 2nd its a Prakash Jha movie and 3rd the storyline is sounding very very amazing... wish her all the best in 2010 and hope she gets all the things which she deserves...

Between PC and Kareena- I haven't seen WYR completely, but she was the only good thing about the movie. Kareena was good in Kurban, but nothing that stayed with me after the movie ended.

Kareena was good in 3I too, but I feel any good enough actress could've easily been Pia. The role wasn't anything extra-ordinary. Whereas PC's role in Kaminey had a bigger impact, plus it was a tougher one and she did a great job. Especially the Marathi bits, she was pretty great.

So, PC for me. But I guessbox office wise, like everyone said, it's Katrina.

Yes, Crystal, if one compares Deepika and Katrina in the run for the pretentious award, she should bag it fully. With both actors being in the race, it was definitely Katrina's year, not just in term of hits and box office, but if one is comparing acting (It would be tuff to compare wooden planks), I'd say Katrina was a lesser one with her performance in New York, and it left a larger impact as well.

However with Vidya and Kareena in the race, the numbers change drastically. Now only if Konkana was there as well.

Sonam Kapoor in Delhi 6 was quite a dhamaka....Her performance was the only good thing about Delhi 6. She brought so much zest and spontaneity in the film....

Now, this, I definitely agree with. I can't imagine anyone having done a better job as Meera. Thanks for posting, Decoder.

No one's really .. well from the movies I saw .. I can't say any of the actresses gave award worthy performances. But since someones gunna get the best actress award regardless, I'd give it to Vidya for Paa.
