And here's the latest from VVC...an apology spiced with some serious bitterness for CB...

Vidhu Vinod Chopra apologises to media

Noida: Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra Saturday apologised to the media for asking a reporter to shut up when he was asked him if his film "3 Idiots" was lifted from Chetan Bhagat's book "Five Point Someone".

"I really think I'm silly (but) I was provoked (to react that way). But I shouldn't have done this. I saw myself on TV (later) and saw how I was shouting 'shut up! shut up!' like an animal. I told myself - 'what nonsensical behaviour'," Chopra told reporters here.

The producer lost his cool when he was asked whether 70 percent of the film, which has grossed over Rs.100 crore in the first four days, was taken from the book -- as claimed by Bhagat. Chopra got angry and demanded to know if the journalist had seen the movie and read the book.

The scribe said he had seen "3 Idiots" but had not read "Five Point Someone". This further angered Chopra, who got up and started shouting: "Then you shut up. When you have not read the book, then how can you say that the movie is 70 percent of the book?"

Chopra's reaction evoked anger among the reporters with many demanding that the filmmaker apologise. But he didn't -- until Saturday.

Now Chopra says that he doesn't want to meet Bhagat "for the rest of my life because it's all being done with very bad intention".

He went on: "Do you know the man (Bhagat), apart from signing the contract, took his money. I (even) paid him (the) bonus before the movie (was) released. That man is not saying it now. Actually the bonus I was supposed to pay him after the film was released has been paid to him.

"He took the money and now the money is in the bank. Look how it was all manipulated. He started it all when I left Mumbai," said Chopra.

But Bhagat is adamant that he has not been given due credit for the storyline and that most of the sequences in the film have been lifted from his bestseller.

I'm sure there were similarities, which is why he's given credit at all. LIke i said, gray area starts with teh questino "how much credit"
He didnt write the script, script writing, screenplay, dialogues are hirani.
But his book was the premise for the movie, it lent inspiration with the characters and settings. Makers felt that this was not enough to put his name right up with the director and producer. They did tell him in teh contract it would be inteh "rolling credits".
From what i know, rolling credits come at the end of the movie.

this is the most horrifying thing i have ever red/heard! and based on that if i were CB i'd drag their a$$ to court. let's say there was NO BOOK FPS, would the movie have had happened? NO
so based on that how much credit should CB be getting? granted there were changes in the movie, but aren't there always when a book is translated to the screen?
no, not necessarily, credits come at the beginning as well.

Point is, 3 idiots wouldnt have come to existence if it wasnt for FPS. Raju himself said that. So that in itself requires a proper huge credit to the original creator.

The 'source material' is listed after the Action Director and the Still Photographer! Lame.

And for Amir to say that VVC should sue Chetan is outrageously insensitive. And funny thing, he hasnt even read the damn book.

you nailed it completely. read your post after i posted mine. lol ETA:
if this is hirani's story, screenply and yada yada yada, then he should be tried for plagirism, that should get CB due credit.

Thats the thing, people are forgetting the most basic point: If it weren't for FPS,3Idiots wouldnt have happened. Enough said. There shouldnt even be an arguement on how CB should've been creditted now. Anything less, would have been unethical and selfish, which is what the 3I team demonstrated.

i also think it is majorly wrong of Aamir Khan to about these issues and call CB an "attention/publicity seeker"..because first of all he's just an actor (of 3I) and is in no place to make any kind of judgment and make outlandish statements about why someone (who wrote the book that his effin movie is based on) is asking for a more deserving credit...

the dude is a writer for pete's sake!!! he isn't in Bollywood to pull all these random publicity stunts and shenanigans that are like second nature to an actor eg Aamir Khan..

and even if CB is doing all these for publicity reasons, Aamir doesn't know that for a fact and he should STFU about things that doesn't concern him..he acted in a movie... let the producer and other technical staff deal with this issue because they're the ones responsible...

I am slightly losing respect for Amir in this situation. I cant believe he openly accused the author of the freaken book who's story his movie was based on of publicity. AND said that VVC should take CB to court. He is in NO place to say all this...but again, this is Amir Khan, the guy who takes himself WAY too seriously and thinks his involvement in all issues is of utmost importance.

What still boggles my mind is how daft Amir has become after this. All intelligence down the drain. He hasnt even read the damn book and is making statements on similatires, or the lack of. So basicall whatever VVC and team is saying, he's following with shut eyes.

They bought the right of his novel by paying him 1 lakh. Which CB agreed on. He also agreed on to be paid Rs 10 lakhs more after the film was successful. Which the producer paid him before the release.
If you have the rights of a storyor a movie it is for you to add more info or take away some. You can creatively make it into a different story too. But if you are involved in teh film making by sitting on the set every day then yo uhave right to say anything.
You took the money, never came to watch the shooting and kept yourself alienated then you have no right to say how the movie came out to be.
Its Raju's view of his story.

first chetan creates a ruckus on his tweets... and now on his blog..

the dude needs better ways of handling things...

why wait all this while🤔... he does sound like an attention seeker to me..

hirani and the other dude deserve all the credit for the work they have done..

as for chetan, if he was unable to get the document/agreement well worded before it was in place...it is a pity that he is what he is
