Compare star-kids who do not try to branch out on their own without using their family name and connections vs star-kids whose films are produced by their dads and given a platform as grand as you can expect. Prateik Babbar and Mimoh Chakraborty are trying to do it on their own mettle and see where they are. And also, not all star-kids have the same advantage. A Ranbir, Sonam and Abhishek whose dads are famous, active and influential in the current Bollywood setting would have far more doors opened for them than Neil Nitin Mukesh, for example. I am sure there a re a lot of reciprocal transactions going on in the former cases to benifit the children.

Ranbir and Sonam's dads don't go around talking about their kids all the time and promoting them. During Delhi 6 time, Sonam had a chance to go to the Oscars with her dad or even asked her dad to "promote" her Delhi 6 since he was riding high on Slumdog's success but she didn't go and neither did he once mention her movie. So I don't think Sonam uses her father's name to promote herself unlike Abhi. So it's unfair to even say that.

As for Mimoh or Pratiek or Neil.....Mimoh's father is not Amitabh Bachchan or Rishi Kapoor or Anil Kapoor. Same goes for Neil. Pratiek's mother was very well known but she's not really here to promote him and I don't think he shares a great relationship with his father. So that comparison is not even valid.

@Bluemoon, in that case even Aishwarya had to do a "screen-test" for Mohabbatien and even Sonam had to do some sort of test (not sure if you would call it a screen test) to see if she fits in the role of Sakina in Saawariya, I think most actors do have to do a "screen-test" just to see if they fit in that certain role, be it star kids or not.

Anyways, I am off to bed now.........

Also there are some people with Bollywood connections who have still tried to make it on their own. When Farhan Akhtar approached Aamir, Saif, and Akshay for Dil Chahta Hai they didn't know he was Honey Irani and Javed Akhtar's son and neither did he tell them. He along with his partner Riteish Sidhwani and sister Zoya spend some time working as ADs and casting directors (again without using their family connections). Then they met Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and directed the "Breathless" music video and got some recognition on their own.

Despite having more experience than Farhan, Zoya struggled for almost a decade to get her first film made. I like both of them quite a bit.

I want to ask you something, last question before I go to bed.

So you think just because someone who doesn't have to struggle as much, shouldn't be appreciated for their talent as much? Even if they have as much talent or even more talent than someone who struggled, they shouldn't be appreciated? So only if you struggle, than you should make it big?

No not at all. I never said that. My point in my last post and the one about Karisma Kapoor was that sometimes "star kids" or whatever you want to call them also struggle just as much as an outsider.

As an example, Kareena Kapoor didn't have to struggle a whole lot, and she kept getting a lot of offers even when her films weren't major hits. It might be partly because of her connections, but I also think she is a talented actress and not just because of Jab We Met, but Dev, CHameli, Omkara and Yuva as well.

After 2 gigantic flops, you have your dad's producton house produce a tailor-made film for you.. that's not helping? I read that that Abhay Deol is being paid less than the cost of Sonam's costumes and make-up in this film. Hmm.

But she had to struggle still, you say and even Zoya and Farhan are "star kids" and they had to struggle so that's why you like them. But from what I am getting, if someone that didn't struggle much (according to what your definition of struggle is), talented or not, you don't like them or have any respect for them?

You are reading way too much into my words. All I did was share what I know about Zoya and Farhan and the fact that I like their films. I never once said in that post that I like them more than other talented or not "star kids" just because they struggled.

A tailor made movie made by a director that is almost unknown to majority of the people in this forum or anywhere else? The movie where apart from Abhay (who is not even that big to begin with), the other cast are UNKNOWN? The movie that is being produced by her YOUNGER sister when Anil is busy in LA shooting for 24? Oh yes I am sure that is a DREAM project for anyone!!!! The movie was RHEA's idea, Rhea came up approached Anil, not Sonam. Just like how Zoya casted her brother in her movie, Rhea Kapoor did the same with her sister!

As for those 2 gigantic flops, did you even read the reviews? For Saawariya, 75% of the reviews were on HER favor even if they didnt like the movie and for D6, 95% of the reviews were on HER favor again with some of the biggest critics saying she was the best thing about the movie. AS I said earlier, just because your movie does well doesn't mean you are going to get appreciated as well.....Amisha Patel and Kareena Kapoor were my example.

And I have said earlier that Abhay is not being paid any less than Sonam's costumes. He, himself cleared the air and said those rumors were untrue and he was quite happy with how that movie is shaping out and how he is getting treated. Oops.
