In that case, why are MOST starkids not to be seen anywhere after few of their movies? Why is it that it took Saif Ali Khan 10 years to be taken seriously and why is it that his sister only has c-grade movies and is not in the lead of some YRF movie?

Abhi's movies flopped yes but I don't think anyone doubted his acting skills. Just because your movies do well doesn't mean you are the most talented person the face of the earth. Great example is of Amisha Patel and Kareena Kapoor. They both started at the same time, Amisha's movie was a huge success, Bebo's was a huge failure. But I don't think anyone would argue that Amisha is a better actress than Bebo.

I say, if you have a problem with people being famous because their last name, who think just because they were born to someone famous, they have the right to be famous, you should have a problem with all those model turned actresses too who think just because they take good pictures, they have the right to be an actress.

This is not pointing to ANYONE but since I know most about her, I am gonna use her and her so called "rival" as an example. If Sonam Kapoor didn't have to struggle and didn't have to audition for Saawariya just because she is Anil Kapoor's daughter, than doesn't Deepika Padukone goes on about how Farah Khan did NOT audition her and casted her in OSO after seeing her at a party or on the ramp or something? So what's the difference between them two?

And anyways almost everyone these days in Bollywood has some sort of connection and didn't really "struggle...." These are some of the most famous actors now:

1. Priyanka Chopra - Ex Miss World....directors casted her cause she won some beauty pageant. (She is one of my favs btw).
2. Kareena Kapoor - Granddaughter of Raj Kapoor. Only in the industry because of her last name??
3. Hrithik Roshan - Another Starkid
4. Shahid Kapoor - Oh look another starkid.
5. Ranbir Kapoor - Starkid again.
6. Sonam Kapoor - Starkid.
7. Deepika Padukone - Famous dad, ex model.
8. Imran Khan - Famous family
9. Katrina Kaif - Most people would argue she's famous because of Salman Khan.
10. Rani Mukherji - Starkid
11. John Abraham - exmodel
12. Abhishek Bachchan - Starkid
13. Aishwarya Rai - ex model, Miss World

If we kick all of them out, there would be no Bollywood.

Doesn't your comment just prove that Star-kids get far more chances to strike gold (or give a hit) than an ordinary newcomer? If the situation were reversed and Kareena started off with two of the biggest blockbusters of the year and Amisha gave two damp squibs, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Because, then Amisha would have been history and not given chances after chances to prove her mettle or otherwise. I can argue that Kareena can be called a good actress today precisely for the reason that she got the opportunity to work with the best actors, directors, scripts and banners to hone and re-tool her acting capabilities inspite of repeated failures. And Amisha in spite of giving huge hits never got that opportunity to improve her acting ability. I really didn't think there was much to choose from acting-wise between Kareena and amisha in their initial movies.
About other star-kids who do not make it.. my point is that they got whatever movie they got precisely because they were born to famous families. Hw many ordinary Indians turn up at Bollywood, hoping for a break, a minor role? For every Tanisha or Shamita Shatty, there are probably millions of talented ordinary Indians who would never have that chance despite better talents and looks.
I agree that for sustainability you do need some talent, even if you are a star-kid. But, the initial leg-up that they get is so impactful and momentous that it can overcome a lot of other shortcomings.
And finally, I find it disingenuous to compare models and star-kids. Models have achieved whatever fame and fortune they have on their own capability, not because of a famous last name. No one gave Ash or Lara the crown because of their famous families. To compare their achievements with someone who gets a blockbuster handed to them on a platter for being fortunate enough to be born in a certain family is not fair.

No it doesn't. Amisha started off very well...she had her Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and Gadar and what not, movies that did VERY well but she did not click with the audience because her acting was not appreciated hence she didn't get good movies later on. Kareena made it despite flop movies because she knew how to act that's why she got her chances. Despite Amisha's hits, it was Kareena that walked out with all the awards and don't tell me it's because of her last name, or else it would have been Sonam Kapoor that would have walked away with all the awards in 2007.

If directors see you can't act, it doesn't matter if your are a Kapoor or a Deol or a Shetty (how is Shamita Shetty a starkid, btw?), nobody is going to invest their money and put you in their movies.

Please tell me the ones who are BIG and starkids, if they don't deserve to be on top. If Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan, etc don't deserve to be on top. They are all on top because they are extremely talented and because they worked their butts off to be on top despite their last name. They got their first or so movies because of their last names, but it was not their parents who went on the sets at odd hours and worked ridiculously long hours for them. I remember talking to a certain "starkid" (I hate using this term) at what was about 5 am in India and that person told me who they just got back at their hotel room after shooting for nearly 20 hours in the freezing cold weather of a certain city in North India and how they have to report back after 4 more hours and how at times it got really lonely because none of their family or friends were in that city and it is tiring but if you don't work, you don't get anywhere in life. So ya, it was them that worked hard. It's not their parents (maybe apart from Amitabh) who gave their interviews for them or publicized them, it was them and their personality that made the fans fall in love with them. How many of you are fans or Hrithik or Kareena or Aamir or Kajol or Ranbir or Sonam or Saif or Rani because you of their parents??? If you are going to have a problem, have a problem with those who use their parents name and do NOTHING themselves. Not those who work hard and have made a name for themselves despite having a famous parent. And how is it their fault anyways if they are born to those famous parents? It was not like them saying "Dear God, please make me be Anil Kapoor/Rishi Kapoor/Tanuja/Rakesh Roshan/Sharmila's daughter/son." Nobody here is stupid to risk their money and work hard to make movies on some kid because they got famous parents. Directors and Producers always have the upper hand, they are not going to be scared of some celebrity threatening them to take their kids in movies or else.

Though to be honest, these days, it doesn't matter if you are a starkid or not, if you can act or not, if there is a certain hype around you created by US (as in you and me), than big directors would sign you anyways. Even if you are wooden.

But than most of us wouldn't be here, now would we? 😉 Nobody starts off being the best...where's the fun in that? If you are great from the beginning, than it would get boring after a while. The fun is in watching you grow as you become better and better.

Pankaj was never a mainstream hero though. Shahid didn't really benefit from his parents. Yes, he is the son of two actors, but that didn't give him big films, big directors, or established costars. He was paid one lakh for his first film! I honestly didn't even know about Pankaj until I became a fan of Shahid because Pankaj wasn't an Anupam Kher type who played a father in numerous films. Pankaj is a lot more selective, and the rest of Bollywood doesn't really recognize him for his talent. Neelima, obviously, is not a very established star, so Shahid didn't benefit from her either. It has nothing to do with their capabilities or credentials - just their power in the industry. Shahid wasn't a typical star kid because neither of his parents had power in the industry nor did they have immense recognition.

And honestly it's getting tired that people would make topics on "starkids" every few weeks and start the same whole bhashan again and again.
