I don't necessarily think that art films are the only good avenues for acting, but I don't think that they are undesirable avenues for acting either.... The problem over here with this article is that Deepika is indirectly dissing art films with her comment. She is completely writing them off by saying she doesn't need them prove her acting prowess, when in reality there are MANY good art films where an actress would be lucky to get to play the lead role.

In my opinion, it is quite silly for an actress to simply discard from acting in a whole genre of cinema, be it art or commerical. Ideally, it shouldn't matter whether the film is art or commercial, but whether its good or not. And so I find it extremely foolish that Deepika would snub and refuse to act in an entire art genre of cinema, just as I would have found it extremely foolish had another actress snubbed from acting in 'commerical cinema'

^I don't like this statement of hers either, but I don't think she dissed "art" films. If you read the whole article she doesn't even use the word "prove". And I don't think she said anything about refusing art films over others either. If you read her actual quote it doesn't sound half as bad.

What I read was that she said there are challenging roles within "commercial" cinema too and she is doing some of those as opposed to Priyanka in Kaminey or Katrina in Rajneeti (ignoring for a moment the debate whether these are even "art" films).

Now of course her definition of a good/challenging role seems different from people posting here. What bothers me more is her trying to prove herself through her words as opposed to actually doing the work. I don't think she dissed any kind of cinema though.

LOL this statement seems to have generated quite a debate. In general, Deepika has usually shown more of a bend towards commercial films which I guess works better for her at this stage in her career....keeping the debate of what constitues an 'art' film aside, she isn't ready for those kind of roles yet....the "Kaminey" variety that is....so she has a ways to go to prove herself first. The role of Meera was marginally better from the ones she did before that but definitely not challenging in my opinion....so she still needs to grow as an actor.
