And I don't believe in these so called art movies. I guess konkona's earlier movies are art but it doesn't matter to me. I think she's really good in her small budget movies or commerical movies.

and dint she also say " when i will look back at my films i wont say " wah i did a really good job as an actor" "

she knows it more then us she needs to work HARD

Here is the scan where she said that.

But I don't know where the other where she said she had a long way to go as an actor was. I'll try to find that one

i think we're reading too much into her quote. she still has a long way to go as an actress but she is way better than actresses like katrina or amrita arora

I agree atleast she appreciates her success and her career choices...I mean I also agree with everyone here that yes she isnt the best actress out there but atleast she's improving with each passing film..

I am pretty sure she wanted to say that there are enough "meaty" roles in commercial cinema (such as WUS, Dil Bole Hadippa, Jab We Met, Dev, Chameli, Black, etc) to show her acting prowess...she doesn't need to venture into "art" films to do it. I don't think that's too bad of a statement. But I can see why this statement can be mocked at :-) It's just one of those statements!

I just hate this notion that Bollywood fosters; that one needs to work in a pretentious and artsy film to be regarded as a great actress. You can work in commercial, mainstream films and still display your acting chops. Why does there need to be a specific type of film present to show off your acting skills? Aamir Khan can do both commercial, and artsy (though, I don't think he has done anything 'artsy') and still be a great actor, regardless of the type of film.

The point is that you have to be in that portal of being a good actor before you announce to the world which type of cinematic medium (commercial or artsy) you want to display your artistic repertoire from. Coming from Deepika, who I consider almost like a glamorous part of the background set in the 2 movies I've seen her in, this comment smacks of pomposity and cluelessness. Well, I guess this kind of statement is expected from anyone who considers the role in LAK to be challenging.
