New York Brings Some Cheer At The Box Office

Friday 26nd June 2009 14.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Its been a very long time but at last there is something to talk about as far as box office goes. Yashraj Films New York has opened to decent collections in its first few shows.

The first day seems to be heading for a 60-65% opening at multiplexes of major cities which is good for a film like New York which has only been promoted for two weeks and also did not look too box office friendly from the promos. The morning shows at multiplexes opened to an approx 50% response and the next shows were better with further improvement likely as the days goes on.

A good first weekend which looks on the cards for the film should ensure the film is some sort of success at the box office after a long dry spell at the ticket counters.

New York Has Huge First Weekend: BOI

Monday 29th June 2009 13.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Yashraj Films New York has done extremely well over its first weekend. The films has grossed an approx 18 crore nett over its first weekend. The business is very good in almost all circuits with multiplexes in metroes and mini metroes recording excellent collections.

The film is almost certain to be the first clean hit of 2009 and although many may have had expected New York to do well, nobody would have thought that New York could be a 50 crore nett grosser which the film has all chances to become over the next few weeks.

The first week nett business will depend on how well it sustains from today onwards but with normal falls it will get to around 27 crore nett. The all India opening weekend of New York is second to Chandni Chowk To China in 2009 but that film crashed from Monday onwards so it is possible that New York may well record the best opening week figures of 2009.
