Whatever Rajshri's detractors have to say, they can say...
But Ek Vivaah...Aisa Bhi is a BEAUTIFUL film!!!!
It truly is a story that touches your heart, not just at the end of the film, but all throughout. I'm not going to go into detail, because I'm pretty sure most of us haven't seen the film yet.
Each and everyone performed brilliantly, but Eesha and Sonu deserve HUGE accolades for their portrayals of Chandni and Prem!
Eesha has never been more endearing than she is as Chandni. Right from her intro shot, my affection for Chandni just grew and grew. Not once did it seem like Eesha was acting; she completely became her character, and it shows. She is excellent in light-hearted scenes, but the gravity she brings to emotional scenes is amazing. To literally smile through tears is the hardest thing for an actor to do, yet she manages to give an entirely natural performance, never faltering!
Sonu truly is the perfect Prem for this film. Even though the film may seem to show more of Chandni's life than Prem's at times, the fact remains that Prem is always present, always supporting her, and so he's never really shifted to the sidelines. Sonu's restraint and pained expressions bowled me over. Sujamal might have been regal and grand, but Prem is devoted and sincere. Once again, Sonu and Prem were one and the same throughout the film; the fact that Sonu was able to identify with the film's story so closely lent a sensitivity to his portrayal of Prem that no other actor has.
Some critics have said that there is absolutely no chemistry between Sonu and Eesha...
Maybe they define chemistry as "all forms of obvious, in-your-face, romance," like hugging, kissing, etc. In that sense, yes, there is no "chemistry" between the two actors throughout most of the film. [There were a few scenes that took my breath away!!!]
But that also shows just how much the critics have failed to understand the basic foundation of Prem and Chandni's relationship. It is not regressive, it is subtle. There is no need for showing affections in the way that the characters in today's usual films do. Prem and Chandni's relationship is one that is extremely deep-rooted in mutual friendship which grows into an eternal love that truly "stands the test of time," as the tagline says. Keeping the personalities of the characters in mind, the way that they express love for each other is nothing short of natural, realistic.
There is such tremendous chemistry between Sonu and Eesha that the screen sparkles whenever they're in the same frame. The beginning of the film, which has most of the fun bonding moments among the group of musicians, has some of the sweetest moments between Prem-Chandni, and Sonu-Eesha really do a fantastic job with their dialogues and expressions: they honestly are a match made in heaven. In the later portions of the film, their sensitivity is heart-wrenching. So much is said through nonverbal interaction: the way that they react to each other with so much ease infuses life into their characters and the romance as well.
I thought the story was very powerful and touching. When the film ended, I was sad that it wasn't longer! The evolving nature of Prem and Chandni's relationship was shown beautifully...Full credit to Soorajji, Shashiji, Sumitji, and Kaushikji for such an emotional story!
As for the major complaint that most of the reviews I've seen so far have said - that there are far too many songs in the film - Maybe those people are not aware that the whole reason Prem and Chandni meet and eventually fall in love is because of their passion for music and singing! Of course there have to be songs! They express themselves through music...Having lots of songs only strengthens their characterizations! (I'm a singer myself...And I sing when I'm happy...Prem and Chandni do the same. Is that the wrong thing to do??) Along those lines, one reviewer criticized the way Eesha acts during the songs (You'll see what I mean when you see the film)...Once again, I'd like to say that when someone really truly loves what they are singing about, their emotions fuel their performance, and nothing else matters...And the way that Eesha brought her emotions onto the screen is absolutely perfect and completely natural! [Kudos to her for actually singing out loud during the shooting! The passion is clearly there!]
Someone also criticized Sonu's smile...Could critics please stop trying to find fault in normal things, please? Haha, this criticism is too funny...Prem is in love with someone...Why wouldn't he smile? Is he supposed to frown or something?
On the whole, the meticulous attention to each and every detail, even in the choreography, is another strong point! Like Kaushikji describes Chandni, "jo sur ki pakki hai," in the same way, everyone who came together to make Ek Vivaah...Aisa Bhi has a great passion for getting the details correct!
In short, I completely agree with Taran Adarsh's review! (from Bollywood Hungama...And he's a tough guy to impress, when it comes to films!)
My rating: 5/5
Good luck to the EVAB team! 😃
