Shah Rukh, Hrithik… indulge in Sex, Lies & Videotape

"You thought that actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan are all angels? Well, they do submit to the 'bad' sometimes and find it quite boring to be all good on-screen at all times. Therefore, it comes as no surprise when our actors give in to the sex, lies and videotape part of storylines and are more than willing to be the 'bad guys'. "It's great to play complex characters; it gives us a chance to experience something different, that is yet so much a part of us," they say.

Indiatimes Movies brings to you Bollywood's good guys who've turned 'bad' at some point of time, on screen, and the sweet girls-next-door who've metamorphosed into vamps, and didn't quite mind it.

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has done it four times - played the 'baddie' that many times, we mean - in Anjaam, Duplicate, Darr and the more recent Don.

Everyone seems to love him - good or bad!

SRK to produce Kunder's next

By Manisha Vardhan, MovieTalkies.com, 8 June 2007

Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment is likely to produce good friend Farah Khan's hubby's next film. According to sources, SRK and Red Chillies are looking into the possibility of producing Shishir Kunder's next directorial venture after Jaan-E-Man.

Kunder's Jaan-E-Man was a love story but his second film will have no trace of romance in it. It is supposed to be a sci-fi adventure. The film will have a lot of special effects and its treatment is planned on par with a Hollywood film. Apparently SRK has already heard the story and is extremely excited about it. It is believed that he was also quite impressed by the way Jaan-E-Man was made and definitely wants to work with Kunder. So if things go fine, good friend SRK will star in Kunder's next.

That's called friendship.

Super S R K??

[8 Jun 2007>

Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood, is turning a superhero with Shirish Kunder's next sci-fi venture for which the extensive research work has already been started by the creative team. King Khan is likely to portray the character of a superhero who will be 'a gentleman extraordinaire' and will not be content with saving the damsels in distress but will also play a key role in environmental issues like global warming.

As a source reveals, ' Of late Shah Rukh has been talking about an extremely creative film. After much brainstorming he is working in tandem with Shrish Kunder for this film. The project will have lots of special effects and the treatment will be on par with a Hollywood film. The film will definitely have lavish production values, but it's difficult to estimate the exact cost at this point. The film will hit the floors next year.'

Considering the fact that superhero worshipping is going to stay in India after Hrithik Roshan's Krrish and Abhishek's upcoming ' Drona', Shah Rukh too has decided to ride the band wagon and is making every effort in the book to offer something better and special to the Indian public. As Rakesh Roshan has already announced that Hrithik will be fighting the demons within in the next installment of Krrish, Shah Rukh and Shrish Kunder want to do something beyond that to keep their film jara hat ke.

And to do something in that direction S R K is trying to up the quality of special effects at his VFX studio, which will be taking the responsibility of providing the special effects in the film. Recently, SRK had spoken highly about the special effects used in the film 300, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae (in 480 BC). Perhaps, King Khan is trying to do something like that in this upcoming superhero thriller.

It may be recalled, though Shrish Kunder's Jaan-e-man was not a very successful film from the box office point of view but it was highly appreciated for its stylish treatment and feel. He is Farah Khan's husband who is a very close friend of Shah Rukh and is also directing Shah Rukh starrer ' Om Shanti Om'. Before turning to direction, Shrish had made his mark as an editor in films like Armaan, Matrubhoomi, Main Hoon Na, Socha Na Tha, Waqt: The Race Against Time and Jaan-e-mann. The last one was written-edited and directed by him.

So, Hrihtik has competition not only from Abhishek but also from King Khan. Let us wait and watch!!

SRK's 'brush' with Husain

Saumit Singh
Thursday, May 31, 2007 21:02 IST

It seems Salman Khan has just gifted 'good friend' Shah Rukh Khan two life-size canvasses he's painted. Coming on the heels of Salman's first publicly exhibited painting being snapped up for a mind boggling Rs one crore, the gesture certainly isn't something to sneeze at. But here's the twist - in just about a week, a painting with Shah Rukh Khan's signature on it is expected to fetch an amount much in excess of Salman's one crore.

King Khan, who is currently home alone in Mumbai, will be joining wife Gauri and children Aryan and Suhana in London shortly. And it won't just be for a family holiday. On June 7, he's teaming up with MF Husain to paint live and their joint effort will be auctioned on the spot by Bonhams, London. Incidentally, Gauri is an avid art collector and owns many Husains.

Several other artist-celebrity pairings will also put up their paintings for auction, including eminent artist Farhan Mujib and Naseeruddin Shah.

Says artist Anjanna Kuthiala, who has teamed up with former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah, "Collaborative pieces of art have become a powerful trend and it's great they are being put to such good use." Her earlier painting 'SRK and the flowering tree' has brush strokes from people like Sonu Nigam, Ramesh Sippy, Madhur Bhandarkar and Shah Rukh's mother-in-law Savita Chibber and will also be put up for auction this year in New York.

Anjanna, for whom SRK has been a long time muse, says she is amazed by his versatility. "There was a time he used to claim he couldn't draw a straight line, but it's just like him to be number one in just about everything," she notes.

The auction coincides with an India-focussed economic summit that will be addressed by speakers like Vijay Mallya, VS Naipaul, Praful Patel and Ram Jethmalani.

India's film industry & top contemporary artists celebrate art for freedom at Bonhams

Art for Freedom is an exciting and highly unusual auction, showcasing work by a spectacular range of contemporary Indian artists during celebrations to mark India's 60th anniversary of Independence.

In an unprecedented act, guaranteed to generate excitement, the internationally famous painter MF Husain and the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will collaborate on an artwork, live at Bonhams on June 7, 2007, from 6 pm.

A unique aspect of the Art for Freedom auction is the fact that many of the art works are a collaborative effort between the artist and an eminent citizen from the world of cinema, music, literature, politics and business - creating canvases of great curiosity and value.

Some of the artists represented are Akbar Padamsee, Jehangir Sabavala, MF Husain, Jogen Chowdhury, Satish Gujral, Anjolie Ela Menon, Paresh Maity, Atul Dodiya, Sunil Das, Shuvaprasanna and Prasenjit Sengupta.

The proceeds of the auction will go towards Tehelka, an iconic media house in India, known for its public interest journalism.

At a time when there is a great and growing interest in the work of Indian artists, with many achieving international recognition, Art for Freedom presents a tremendous opportunity for art lovers and buyers of Indian art. The auction will feature more than 80 canvases by both established masters and a newer generation of cutting edge, emerging voices.

Art for Freedom will be on preview at Asia House, 63, New Cavendish Street, London WIG 7LP from May 30 to June 6, 2007. Approximately half the art works will then be auctioned at Bonhams, 101, New Bond Street, London W1S 1SR on June 7, 2007. The other half will be on auction at Asia House on June 11, 2007. BID WHILE THE PAINT DRIES: BOLLYWOOD JOINS INDIA'S LEADING ARTISTS AT BONHAMS

Bonhams, the international fine art auction house will help to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Indian Independence with a fund raising auction in support of Tehelka, an iconic media house in India, and the country's fastest-growing English weekly newspaper.

Art for Freedom will take place at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street, London on 7 June, 6 pm onwards. The sale will feature work by both established Indian masters and a newer generation of cutting edge, emerging voices.

A unique aspect of the auction is the fact that many of the canvasses are a collaborative effort between top-line Indian artists and high-profile Indian and British personalities. The proceeds of the sale will go towards Tehelka.

The highlight of the evening will occur when two of India's biggest cultural brands – the legendary artist, 92-year-old M F Husain and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan -- will paint on a blank canvas alongside each other. This painting will be sold as the paint dries at Bonhams to the highest bidder from among the art collectors, politicians, celebrities and industry magnates present at the auction.

Further collaborations include such diverse personalities as:Angeli Sowani (London-based abstract expressionist) and Arun Sarin (global telecom czar, the India-born CEO of Vodafone, man in the news)
Paresh Maity (30 solo shows in 10 years) and Sir Gulam Noon, MBE (a British businessman of Indian origin, famed for popularising Indian cuisine)

Farhan Mujib (eminent artist famous for his ornate paper collages) and Naseeruddin Shah (one of India's most esteemed actors) Prasenjit Sengupta (a cutting edge new artist known for his ghostly realism) and Dr Kartar Lalvani (one of UK's most prominent NRIs, whose company, Vitabiotics sells some of Britain's largest selling vitamin supplements)

The auction comes at an auspicious time for top Indian artists participating in the sale. Thanks to globalisation and changing artworld trends, the auction market for Indian art alone has spiralled from $52million in 2006 to its current rate of $150 million annually. Bonhams' recent public sales of Contemporary Indian and Pakistani Paintings are testament to this growth

SRK yet to get RBI clearance on 'gifted' property

4 Jun, 2007 l 0029 hrs ISTlSidhartha/TIMES NEWS NETWORK

NEW DELHI: For nearly two years, film actor Shah Rukh Khan has been trying to figure out if a property he got as a gift from a Dubai-based builder is in conformity with Foreign Exchange Management Act (Fema). He's yet to get an answer from the Reserve Bank of India which has been sending the papers from one ministry to another.

Khan's case is instructive about how the central bank and the government deal with files, even those of celebrities. The good bit about the episode is that it has forced the Centre to finally interpret how Fema is to be used for property acquisitions abroad.

The position that has now been honed is this: Any real estate acquisition by a foreigner in India is subject to compliance with Fema guidelines. Also, real estate that an Indian resident purchases aboard is subject to Fema rules. But anything that's gifted does not fall within the purview of the Act ^ a position which will comfort Khan but has not yet been formally conveyed to him by RBI.

When contacted by TOI, Khan confirmed that he was still waiting for the communication.

The delay is only in keeping with the wariness of different government agencies to take a call on his case. Sources said RBI was unwilling to take the responsibility of clearing transfer of the property from the real estate developer to Khan and sought the safe way out by sending the matter to the finance ministry to see if the deal was in compliance with Fema.

The finance ministry, in turn, sent the proposal to home ministry "to see if there were any security implications" and also to the urban development ministry (since the proposal was related to the real estate sector) and MEA. While others would have given up, Khan persevered, making inquiries about his request for clarification on the matter.

That's when the finance ministry got active and asked for comments from the other ministries which did not see any problem with Khan's acquisition of the Dubai property.

Accordingly, a couple of months ago, North Block wrote to RBI saying that it had nothing to do with the proposal since it did not involve an issue that was related to Fema violation.

However, Khan may still face a scrutiny by the tax department. The taxmen have not been nosing around yet, but may soon enter the picture if Khan becomes a brand ambassador of the builder who "gifted" the property to him.

Shah Rukh Khan launches film business magazine

URVASHI ASHAR
INDIATIMES MOVIES

It was recently that trade analyst Komal Nahata decided to come out with a film business magazine which he named 'The Film Street Journal'. And the person to launch this new initiative was none other than Shah Rukh Khan along with friend Karan Johar.

"The magazine is basically a trade magazine, that'll give details about box office collections and all trade related business news," said Komal. "Right now it's a weekly magazine that will come onto the stands every Saturday."

Shah Rukh, on the occasion, spelled out the need for such a magazine in the film circles and wished Komal much luck in his endeavour. Though the chief guest kept the media and guests waiting for more than three hours, the charmer was excused the minute he walked in.

Also, present at the occasion were Manoj Bajpai, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Mithun Chakraborty with son Mimoh, Kunal Kohli, Dharmendra, David Dhawan, Sanjay Suri, Prem Chopra, Javed Akhtar among others.
