Don takes on Munnabhai

Director Raj Kumar Hirani's next film does not star the original Munnabhai, Sanjay Dutt. This film (an untitled one so far) has nothing to do with Munnabhai and is a take on the education system. And Don, ShahRukh Khan stars in Hirani's new film.

Even as script work is still under way, SRK has given his nod to the film which will start shooting towards the end of the year.

So, it's not going to be the third sequel Munnabhai Chale America or bringing the popular novel 5 Point Someone to the big screen for Hirani right away. It's the aforementioned film with SRK that is keeping Hirani busy for now.

It will be the first time the duo will be working together, definitely a new 'circuit' for both. The director is currently away at Cannes and was unavailable for comment.

SRK to join Munna Bhai team

Raj Kumar Hirani, who is still basking in the super success of his two mega hit films on the theme of a good hearted goon – Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai – wants ShahRukh Khan to play the lead in his third movie.

The as yet untitled film will not feature Hirani's favorite star Sanjay Dutt.

"The film is still at the scripting stage but ShahRukh Khan has given his consent to work in the film, which will start shooting at the end of the year," say Bombay Times.

The film is distinct from the planned Munnabhai sequel called Munnabhai Chale America, the fate of which will be determined by the sentence meted out to Sanjay Dutt for violating the Arms Act. It is also not the rumored film based on the popular novel 5 Point Someone.

Hirani's third directorial venture is keeping him busy because it will be the first time he and SRK get to work together.

Sallu gifts new-found friend SRK 2 paintings

However, SRK is not allowed to see them until he moves to his new apartment

Posted On Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Ashwini Deshmukh

Now it's Shah Rukh Khan's turn to get a taste of Salman Khan's painting skills. If sources are to be believed Salman has now gifted Shah Rukh two life-size canvasses. What more, Salman has nicely wrapped the paintings and wants SRK to take a look at them, only after he moves into his new six-storey apartment just behind Mannat.

The story goes that Salman has wanted to shower gifts on Shah Rukh before he moves to his new apartment. That's when he decided to purchase two life-size canvasses from London. Says a source close to the actor, "Salmanbhai has just gifted two huge paintings to Shah Rukh. These are made by him especially for his new place, which is coming up behind Mannat."

Obviously, Shah Rukh is pleasantly surprised at this gesture and has been telling his friends about it. A close friend of SRK says, "Yes, I knew that Salman had been working on a painting for Shah Rukh. He has gifted Shah Rukh two big paintings. Of course, Shah Rukh is extremely happy with the gift. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan is glad that Salman is pursuing his hobby with such passion. He has expressed this on several occasions."

Salim Khan further adds, "Which father wouldn't be happy to see that his own child possesses this kind of talent? As far as the painting is concerned, he has been doing it for a while. It is almost close to Salman's hit film."

Shrek comes knocking

Sunday, May 27, 2007 18:47 IST

Fame Adlabs thought of a unique idea to distribute invitations for 'Shrek'. They actually got Shrek himself to visit some star homes to invite their children.

While Shrek had a tough luck at Shah Rukh Khan's house as Gauri didn't allow him to meet the kids, he was welcomed with open arms by Raveena Tandon and her daughter, Rasha.

Shrek is seen here standing outside SRK's 'Mannat' -- disappointed (don't go by that expression) .

KAREENA IN SRK MOVIE?

Kareena Kapoor is very, very excited that she would soon star opposite her favourite hero Shah Rukh Khan and that too in her favorite director Karan Johar 's next production. The film is reported to be set in set in New York and is an 'unusual' love story and will be directed by Siddharth Malhotra who's presently writing the screenplay of the film. Malhotra has earlier assisted Johar in 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. Kareena has last appeared in a Dharma Production film in 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. Kareena has been in constant touch with Johar for sometime for various projects though she had once quarreled with him. When asked if Kareena would star in his one-guy-one-gal romantic film, Johar says she hasn't yet been confirmed. However sources close to him say that she has been more or less finalized for the role.

Aziz Mirza: SRK nahin toh Shahid sahi…

Well, it's rightly said that marriage can totally change a man's fate, for better or worse. Look at Shahid Kapur, the big Indian wedding has done wonders for this lad. Err…Sooraj Barjatya's Vivaah, we mean. Ever since the film emerged a winner at the B.O., Shahid's career has been looking up at sunny skies. The lad's signed on for Aziz Mirza's next film, and we all know that Mirza makes movies on a large canvas. And only with ace actors. Now that he's breaking the trend of only working with SRK, we wonder why he opted for Shahid from the gamut of actors in tinsel ville. We don't doubt the actor's talent, we're only wondering if Mirza has seen shades of a young SRK in Shahid, like many others have. That's not a comparison, just an earnest compliment to Shahid. Theek hai na, Shah Rukh?

Holiday affair

Shah Rukh Khan will be holidaying in London with close friends Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, Salman, Sohail Khan and their families

Posted On Saturday, June 02, 2007
Sandipan Dalal

It is that time of the year again when our super-busy actors head to 'cooler' destinations for their annual summer jaunt. This year, Shah Rukh Khan, his gang of friends (Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Kapoor and Chunky Pandey) and their families are going to holiday together in London. The actors have already packed off their wives, children along with their respective nannies to the holiday spot. While Sanjay Kapoor and Karan Johar are already there, Shah Rukh, Arjun and Chunky will join them shortly.

Shah Rukh will be staying at his private apartment, while others are putting up in hotels and apartments in the vicinity. Although the actor and his friends have been planning an outing together for the longest time, they finally managed to get together this year. SRK has been working round the clock and wanted to take a break as Om Shanti Om's schedule comes to a close next week. His other friends were also heading for an awards event in Yorkshire. This is when they decided to gang up and spend a few days in London.

It's a lesser-known fact that their children too are extremely fond of each other and a few even go to the same school. The kiddie brigade comprises Shah Rukh's daughter Suhana and son Aryan, Arjun Rampal's daughters Mahika and Myra, Sanjay Kapoor's daughter Shania and Chunky's children Ananya and Rysa.

According to our source, "All the actors are heading for a long vacation to London. Unlike the other stars, Shah Rukh will not be attending the awards ceremony there. Gauri and the kids had left last weekend. He is going to join them next week. A few of his friends and their families are already there."

Salman Khan and brother Sohail Khan are also going to join the gang next week. Sohail's wife Seema Khan and son Nirvaan are going to London as well. Of late, Shah Rukh and Salman have hanging around together. Sources tell us that SRK personally asked Salman to join him during the vacation.

Says a source close to Salman, "Salman is fond of Shah Rukh and his children. He is joining them in London next weekend.

Kajol set to sizzle again

By Our Correspondent 2007 Bollyvista.com

She defied the myth that a married heroine can ever regain success at the box-office and came back last year with the blockbuster 'Fanaa', only to prove everybody wrong. Kajol is now all set to storm the big screen again.

She will be seen in a pivotal role in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' with SRK. The two are considered to be one of the best on-screen pairs of Indian Cinema.

Kajol will also be seen with hubby Ajay Devgan in his directorial debut film 'U Me aur Hum'. She is also one of the most sought after stars in the ad world. This week she shot for the Alpinelebe brand of toffees as her new endorsement.

Talks are also on for a couple of films and more endorsements. Undoubtedly, Kajol is all set to sizzle again as before.

Does Bollywood no longer adore Amitabh?

A Special Correspondent | June 04, 2007 14:37 IST

This is a Bollywood story even Hindi filmwallahs didn't imagine.
Amitabh Bachchan looks awesome to most Indians because many people think he has done everything we can only dream of.

His ever-growing fame, his millions, his charming manner, the dignity in his voice, his family's culture, his penchant for big cars, the lows and highs of his success, some great roles he has brought alive on screen, the people's deep love for him and now, arguably the most beautiful Indian woman as his daughter-in-law.

What more can one man ask for in one lifetime?

But ask Karan Johar what he doesn't have.

The Hindi film industry's goodwill, alas, appears to be waning behind Mr Bachchan's back.

Hindi film folk are now divided when they discuss the Bachchans.

It is sad that away from the camera's gaze, his actions have isolated the icon.

The most successful actor in Hindi film history is said to have upset many stars who have achieved a lot more than his son Abhishek has so far.

Amitabh -- who surpasses his own standards in acting excellence in every new release of his -- is apparently someone some of Mumbai's top film stars now want to spurn if they can.

Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan are all said to have told Karan Johar that they won't accept a role in his proposed film starring Abhishek Bachchan [Images] and Aishwarya Rai.

In the political arena, the Bachchans are being targeted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for siding with her arch-rivals Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh. The Congress party too is watching the Bachchans closely. Congressmen won't miss a chance to hit out at Amitabh Bachchan for supporting Sonia Gandhi's rivals.

Agreed that Amitabh Bachchan is an artiste and should be treated liberally, but some within the film industry apparently believe he has been a less of an artiste when either his or his son's interests are at stake.

Karan Johar knows how Amitabh Bachchan, the living legend, is getting isolated.

Karan is in awe of Amitabh Bachchan. He worships Mr Bachchan and grew up with Abhishek.

However, destiny gave Karan his first grand success when he and the irrepressible Shah Rukh Khan teamed up. The formidable combo have the high-voltage energy to succeed like few in the Hindi film industry can.

But cut the scene here!

The action has shifted elsewhere.

Karan likes the Bachchan family too.

At Abhishek's wedding Karan choreographed the Sangeet and cheered his childhood friend's beautiful bride Aishwarya.

Abhishek, Aishwarya, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan danced on the eve of the wedding as of the night was never going to end.

The Wedding created the kind of hysteria rarely witnessed before in Mumbai. It is obvious that whoever casts Abhishek and Aishwarya in a film after their wedding will make box office history, whether the film is made or not, whether the film succeeds or not.

Karan wants to make a film with Abhishek and Aishwarya.

But some stars have problems with the Bachchans and don't want to work with Abhishek and Aishwarya.

As soon as Karan announced his desire to cast Aishwarya and Abhishek, his dearest buddy Shah Rukh Khan made it clear he would have nothing to do with his dearest friend's dream project. It will be the first Dharma Productions venture since Karan's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain (SRK also did Duplicate for Karan's dad Yash Johar before KKHH), that Shah Rukh won't have a role in. He did a song sequence in Kaal, the only recent Dharma film he didn't have a leading part in.

Karan knows you can't make a Hindi film on an island. You have to be a part of the industry.

When he turned to Saif Ali Khan after the Marriage, Saif refused. How could the Chhote Nawab forget that in spite of giving a fine performance in Kal Ho Naa Ho, Karan didn't feature him in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, giving Abhishek a key role instead.

When Hrithik stole the thunder from Abhishek in Dhoom 2, it is said the latter's father was upset to read the negative reviews about his son's performance. Amitabh Bachchan also uncharacteristically pointed out in some television interviews early this year that Guru, starring his son, had made more money than Shah Rukh Khan's Don had. Few in Bollywood needed to connect the dots to know what he meant.

Amitabh Bachchan also challenged a news report that Hrithik -- and not he -- was the highest taxpayer in the Hindi film industry.

Hrithik too wouldn't want to work in Karan's film.

Karan can neither ask Aamir Khan or Salman Khan.

So, the director is stuck for now.

Amitabh Bachchan's comment -- that those who are upset they weren't invited to the Wedding are in any case not his friends -- has upset many in the Hindi film industry.

He also could not use the sacred occasion to mend his relations with Sonia Gandhi, with whom he and his family have been estranged for some years now.

Life can be lonely at the top, more so if you are alienated by your peer group.
