SRK - from 1993 - 1998

Ddlj ( 1995 )
For The First Ever A Writter-director ( Aditya Chopra ) Used A Modern Setting To Flesh Out Traditional Values. What Impressed Me Was That Even Though Shah Rukh Khan Was Hopelessly In Love With Kajol , Hed Marry Her Only With Her Parents Consent. And He Does All That He Can To Win Over Her Family. Thats What Hit Straight Home, I Think.

( Yash Chopra )

Kkhh ( 1998 )

Full Marks To Karan Johar For His Outstanding Screenplay. Beginning With Rani Mukherjees Death And Then Unfolding The Film Through The Little Girls Eyes Was A Unique Idea. The Chemistry Between Shah Rukh Khan And Kajol Was Just Too Electric, As It Was With Raj Kapoor And Nargis And Amitabh Bachchan And Rekha Earlier.

( Yash Chopra )

Darr ( 1993 )

Rahul ( Shah Rukh Khan ) Of Darr ( 1993 ) Was An Obsessed Lover. The Character , Of Course , Was Well-written, But The Way Shah Rukh Khan Executed It Was Novel. His Stuttering K....k....kiran , His Crazed Eyes And His Pathological Obsession For The Girl Endeared Him To The Audienec. When He Gave Sunny Deol The Slip In The Holi Scene , The Audienec Clapped For Him.

( Ramesh Sippy )

Ddlj ( 1995 )

Aditya Chopra Handled The Relationship Between Kajol And Her Mother Farida Jalal In A Very Contemporary Manner. Though Farida Jalal Owes Complete Allegiance To Her Insular Husband , Amrish Puri , She Whole-heartedly Supports Her Daughters Love For Shah Rukh Khan . Im Sure Every Girl Wants To Share Such A Relationship With Her Mother.

( Mahesh Bhatt )

Baazigar ( 1993 )

Hey , Please Let Me Include One Of My Films As Well . This Got Me My First Filmfare Award. I Was In A Do-or-die Situation. I Was Running Neck To Neck With Big Films Like Khal Nayak For The Award. It Was The Dosti Versus Sangam Situation Replayed All Over Again. Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen , Ah Mere Humsafar , Baazigar O Baazigar Catapulted Me To The Big League. And Theres Been No Looking Back.

( Anu Malik )

Baazigar ( 1993 )

It Was Adapted From From Hollywoods Kiss Before Dying. It Won Robin Bhatt And Me Several Awards. Although The Subject Was Foreign....we Put In Terrific Indian Emotions And Came Up With Stirring Thriller.

( Javed Siddiqi )

Ddlj ( 1995 )

Here Was A Subject Which Had Total Freshness. Full Marks To Aditya Chopra Who Wrote The Film....the Transition Of The Characters From One Set Of Circumstances To Another Was Unique.

( Javed Siddiqi )

Dil Se ( 1998 )

For Sheer Energy , Shah Rukh Khan Is Unbeatable. After Shammi Kapoor , If Ive Seen Intensity And Energy , Its In Shah Rukh Khan. Hes Not A Technically Perfect Dancer. In Fact , Hes Fun. But What He Lacks In Technique , He Makes Up In Effort , Drive And A Willingness To Try Just About Anything For The Shot. No One Else Could Have Done The Chaiyyan Chaiyyan Number From Dil Se With Such Elan , Such Abandon That It Didnt Look Dangerous At All. But It Was !

( Farah Khan )

Dtph ( 1997 )

I Cant Resist This One. After All , It Fetched Me My First Filmfare Award. The Film Was Youthful. And The Sets Matched The Mood. I Used A Variety Of Colours And Props To Get That Effervescent Feeling . At The Risk Of Sounding Immodest , I Must Say That Dtph Was A Trend-setter As Far As Set Designing Is Concerned.

SRK's Red Chillies to shoot UNICEF video for underprivileged children

part of excerpt from mid-day.com

Today, Mona will be shooting for a UNICEF video for Shah Rukh's company, Red Chillies Entertainment. "It's an awareness video for under-privileged kids. I still have to read the concept note, but it's definitely something I am looking forward to."

Shah Rukh Khan's Overseas Co-stars Reveal All

June 02, 2007
Steven Baker

Add the 3 words Shah + Rukh + Khan together. The result equals perhaps the most famous name in Indian cinema. From a small screen television actor to a big screen export kwality commodity, the Shah Rukh brand has amassed a global network of fans; and it is not only the Indian community packing overseas theatre houses, but also a growing audience of goras who can't get enough of Khan.

Not content with simply watching their idol at the cinema, a select number of foreigners have found themselves sharing screen time with King Khan. Like most actors in the Hindi film industry I would jump at the chance to work with SRK, so in preparation for that day, I interviewed five lucky stars who agreed to share their Shah Rukh experience with me.

Television producer Megan Nass has just completed shooting in Melbourne for Khan's latest project Chak De! India. This Australian got the chance to appear on the other side of the camera, acting alongside her hero in a scene filmed at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. She asserts, "He is as good looking in real life as he is on screen," adding, "his eyes are definitely one of the reasons behind his success."

Megan pinpoints a trip to India in 2004 as the start of her obsession with Shah Rukh. After viewing Kal Ho Naa Ho in a 15 rupee talkie, she was prompted to pen "I am besotted with Shah Rukh Khan" in her diary, swayed by the actor's sensitive portrayal of Aman in the film's final scenes.

This besotted fan's most prized possession is an original Balkrishna painting for the Devdas movie poster. However, she will temporarily be without it, having agreed to loan the work to the National Gallery of Victoria for their forthcoming Bollywood exhibition.

Megan Nass is no longer a newcomer. Her discovery of Hindi film led to a subsequent trip to Mumbai, and a role in an item number last year. Appearing in a disco as blonde-female-on-the-left, Megan worked on Iqraar: By Chance, a movie which, you may not remember, opened one Friday in October, and promptly closed the next. Megan anticipates that working with the Badshah of Bollywood will bring her more success than her flop debut.

Evelyn Tu, a Web Developer from New Jersey, is another foreigner hooked on Hindi cinema. After viewing over 100 films, she made the leap from avid fan to ambitious actor, shooting on Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna in New York. Evelyn states, "Shah Rukh embodies what appeals to me most about Bollywood movies: conviction and heart". Over a seventy day shooting schedule, she was able to gain close proximity to the actor, giving her an insight into the inner world of Shah Rukh Khan. "By the end of it Shah Rukh had breathed on me, leaned on me, and showed me the kind of determination it takes to be a movie star."

Tu observed intimate details of Khan; his gentle coaching of Rani Mukherjee with her dialogue, shaving with his electric razor on an overcast Tuesday morning, and greeting Akshay Kumar (shooting for Jaan-e-Mann) with a big hug in Times Square.

At the end of a twelve hour day, Evelyn posed for a photo with the leading man. That was the moment she chose to tell Shah Rukh how much she loved Paheli, and that she hoped it would receive the Oscar nomination. As she describes it, "The mixture of surprise and delight that shows on his face in my snapshot is just too funny. His lips are pursed very unflatteringly, but you can tell he's pleased."

Towards the end of her time on Karan Johar's film, Evelyn approached her idol for another photograph. "Shah Rukh, I know I already took a photo with you, but you made a funny face." He laughed and said in a mock serious voice "Oh, I'm sorry!" Evelyn reminisces, "He leaned in close to me and smiled for the camera while his bodyguard took the shot". She enthuses, "He looks so friendly that when people see his photo on my desk, they ask if we're dating."

For Corey Goldberg, his collaboration with Khan did not come in his native California. It was a trip to Mumbai that provided not one, but two SRK film credits to his name. In July's monsoon rains, Corey gave a rocking performance in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna as the bass guitarist in Rock 'n Roll Soniye. From his vantage point on the balcony, Goldberg watched every turn and twist of the cast dancing below. Corey on Khan, affirms, "He's got a dynamic presence, yet he's remarkably down to earth for a man of his stature and fame."

Later in July, the chase begins again for Corey, as he returns to the Yash Raj studio to appear alongside SRK in Don. Almost a week of hard work, retakes, and perfectionism was undertaken in the picturisation of Main Hoon Don. After observing both Khan's Dev and Don, Corey declares "He's definitely one of the better actors in Bollywood. I've seen just how versatile he is."

In a reversal of Bollywood tradition, Daniel Grieser, a Swiss national, worked with Khan not at home in Switzerland, but in India. Daniel, an enthusiastic fan of the actor, was exhilarated to shoot on KANK, but disappointed when he arrived on set, to discover SRK was not in that scene. Like Corey he also worked on Don, and here he finally met his idol. For Daniel, a scene with Kareena Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, filmed in a Mumbai nightclub, meant six days with the star. Speaking from his home in the mountains that are so recognisable to Indian film audiences, Grieser smiles, "I found it kind of surreal to see SRK in person after everything I have seen and heard about him on and off screen."

U.S. citizen Erica Reddy's zest for Hindi film started when she married an Indian man. "Like most Americans," she relates, "until I found Bollywood, I saw life in a ho-hum sort of way. Life was just passing me by, I needed excitement and I wanted to experience things I hadn't before. Bollywood has changed my life..."
This passion has been handed down to her daughter Nikhila, who bagged the role of Tanya in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Erica recalls shooting at New York's Grand Central Station.

"Shah Rukh took Nikhila to sit with Ahsaas, who was playing his son," Reddy enthuses. "She has the best seat in the whole world, sitting beside both Karan Johar and SRK." However, all is not well. "As I'm watching, I can see it... the tears are on their way, the flood gates open and she is officially bawling her eyes out. Both Karan and SRK are attempting to talk to her and calm her down, but it's not working."

"We ask her what's wrong and she tells us that Shah Rukh scares her." Shah Rukh feels bad and questions, "What did I do? I didn't do anything."
Then the truth comes out. "Nikhila admits that she is afraid SRK will laugh at her. He assures her he is the most unserious person in the world and everyone is always laughing at him too."

This man seems to be a great actor to work with. A sense of humour? Yes. Movie star looks? Sure. Professional? Of course. Good with kids? See above. But the over-riding theme of all these extras stories is that for a man with his star power, Shah Rukh is generous with his time.

In my time in Hindi Film, I have worked with a who's who of the industry. After working with Amitabh and Abhishek, Kareena and Shahid, Preity, Priyanka and Rani, Akshay, John, and one of the other Khans, Salman, I would like to join the Shah Rukh camp. Without playing the numbers game, it would be a career high to share screen time with the No.1. The most famous name in Indian cinema. Shah Rukh Khan, Main Hoon Na.

SRK to produce (and star in) Kunder's movie

By Rohini Bhandari
6 June 2007, 02:58 PM

MUMBAI: Shah Rukh Khan's production house Red Chillies will soon commence work on director Shirish Kunder's next film, which will star SRK himself. The rest of the cast and crew are still being finalised.

According to sources close to the development, it will be a sci-fi action flick with a heavy dose of visual effects adhering to Hollywood movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Spider-Man. The film is expected to cost an estimated Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crores).

Khan's Red Chillies visual effects team will be working on this film. The company is in the process of expanding operations, in order to commence work on this film.

"The treatment of visual effects is a very integral part of the film. It will have to be planned entirely before the film goes on the floors. Even after the shooting, the film will require one year for the visual effects to be worked on," said the source.

The movie, which will go on floors early next year, will be shot entirely in Mumbai.

This will be Kunder's second film as a director. His directorial debut was the Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta starrer Jaan-E-Mann produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, which release last year.

On the other hand, Red Chillies is currently working on the Farah Khan directed Om Shanti Om. The film stars Khan and debutant Deepika Padukone. This film is based on Bollywood of the 1970s and boasts special visual effects as well.

Kunder gets some Chillies weather!

By: Tushar Joshi
June 8, 2007

Shah Rukh Khan is in talks with the Jaan-E-Mann director (and good friend Farah Khan's hubby) to finance his new project

If all goes well, Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment will produce Jaan-E-Mann director Shirish Kunder's second film.

Kunder is SRK's good friend and is also Farah Khan's husband.

A souce close to SRK confirms, "Yes, Red Chillies is looking into the feasibility of producing Shirish's next film. Talks are on and details will be shared once the project is finalised."

Sci-fi adventure

Film editor-turned-director Kunder's last film, Jaan-e-Mann, wasn't a blockbuster but was hailed for its stylish treatment.

His second film, however, won't have any romance but will be an out-and-out sci-fi adventure.

"The project in discussion will have loads of special effects and the treatment will be on par with a Hollywood film. Shah Rukh has already heard the story and is excited about the subject.

The script is ready, but casting has to be done. Shah Rukh was impressed with the way Shirish made Jaan-e-Mann and definitely wants to work with him," a source adds.

Does this mean the film will also star Shah Rukh? "Yes, that is being discussed as well. The film won't have a huge star cast. The focus will remain on a few key characters."

Lavish production

Another aspect being speculated is the budget of the film; sources claim the budget will cross the Rs 50 crore mark.

The source says, "The film will definitely have lavish production values, but it's difficult to estimate the exact cost at this point."

SRK's Red Chillies VFX will be in charge of managing the special effects on the project.

"They've already been given the brief of the film and are busy preparing presentations for Shah Rukh's approval." The movie is slated to go on floors sometime next year.

Previously, Shirish Kunder has edited...

Om Shanti Om (in production)
Jaan-E-Mann (also wrote and directed it)

Socha Na Tha
Main Hoon Na (also sound editor & designer)

SRK, Husain paint London red

Akanksha Banerji
CNN-IBN

MASTER STROKES: Shah Rukh Khan and MF Husain painted a canvas together.

London: The best of art collaborated with the best of cinema to celebrate 60 years of Indian independence at a charity auction in Bonhams, London.

A first-of-it's-kind, it was a filmy moment with none other than superstar Shah Rukh Khan and veteran artist MF Husain painting a canvas together.

So, what does the grand master think of his young apprentice?

"If you are an artist, whether you paint or act, I think you are bound to add some colour. The painting is almost done, I am lucky that Shah Rukh is with me for the final touches," Husain said.

Standing next to the 92-year-old artist, Shah Rukh decided to be his humble self and said, "I have grown up seeing Husain sahib. We used to run after him. Best was that he never wore shoes! So, I'll just stand next to him and whatever I do, it will be a masterpiece because Husain sahib is here."

The painting was a scene inspired by filmmaker K Asif's Mughal-e-Azam, with Anarkali in Prince Saleem's arms.

The event was a huge hit with a celebrity-packed audience that bid its lungs out and finally settled for over Rs 1.2 crore for Shah Rukh and Husain's painting. Now, that's impressive for the first time, however, pretty average for the master.

The auction also had other collaborative efforts by celebrities including Naseeruddin Shah, Farhan Mujib and Paresh Maity with curry king Sir Ghulam Noon.

"It was the first time for me and I am happy. He is my favourite artist," Noon said.

Shah Rukh and Husain together, that's surely a first. Who knows the next time these two legends meet, it could be a film canvas. We certainly hope so!

Painting by Husain auctioned at Bonhams in London

London, June 8: 'Anarkali', a painting by M F Husain, ''the most well-known face of Indian art'' and Shah Rukh Khan,''the most public face of Indian cinema'', was auctioned for 160,000 at Bonhams.

The painting, a scene from K Asif's epic magnum opus Mughal-e-Azam, showing Anarkali lying in a beautiful, slightly transparent dress with her head in the laps of Salim while a Sitar is being played, had attracted over 1,200 guests to one of the oldest auction houses in London yesterday.

Along with it an array of art works by contemporary artists like Satish Gujral, Anjolie Menon were also auctioned for hefty amounts, at the event organised by Tehelka called Art for Freedom.

The painting was almost done in the past two days but the finishing touches were left to be done by Mr Shah Rukh under the guidance of Mr Husain right in front of the bidders.Mr Husain gave the brush to Mr Shah Rukh and asked him to complete the colouring of the Sitar which he, to the surprise of many, did quite deftly after which the two signed on the canvas.

Mr Husain explained why he chose to paint a scene from one of the classics of the Indian cinema. ''Anarkali was possibly a fantasy, an imagination of a writer. But she and the love of Salim for her was immortalised by K Asif. ''She became a real person symbolising real love. Cinema, he said, has been his source of inspiration, '' for it is the most complete medium.'' Mr Khan informed that, Husain who lost his mother at the age of nine, has been constantly searching for how she must have looked. Mr Shah Rukh said,'' Husain saheb has been painting women in the pursuit of the image of his mother.'' Mr Shah Rukh, said about his contribution to the painting,''I am with the Master (Husain). I can stand with a brush and colour and it will (because of the Master) turn into a masterpiece.'' Husain added, ''We never try to create a piece for posterity but as Charlie Chaplin said, ''we create and then people corrupt it into art'.'' Asked about the controversies dogging him back in India he said, ''When we create something new, some people take time to understand.

It's like the renaissance.'' But then Mr Shah Rukh added, ''In a democracy there is freedom of expression and of views. It is very difficult for an artist who has his own mind to please everyone. The sign of a great artist is to be in controversies.''

Promotional Video at YashRj Website on June 15, 2007

YRF, through this Website, had recently launched its own DRM (Digital Rights Management) platform, through which "audio songs" of YRF catalogue titles starting from 'Dil To Pagal Hai' (1997) uptil its latest releases, were kept available for download in a digital format as individual tracks, as well as entire album.

By popular demand, we are now extending this facility to "SONG VIDEOS".

Soon... you would be able to download and order some of your favourite "song videos" in a digital format, through YRF Website's Video DRM platform, aimed to launch on 15 June 2007 - the day "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" releases in theatres.

Initially, there would be around 20 song videos available for download. Apart from some hit songs from YRF's recent releases, the highlight would be an exclusive Song Video from YRF's forthcoming film "CHAK DE INDIA" (featuring Shah Rukh Khan).

Subsequently, the song videos from "JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM" (featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol & Lara Dutta) will also be made available for digital downloads through this platform, at a later stage.

Each song video would be a digital file available as a "download-to-own" option (at a very attractive cost), whereby the video will be licensed to play on the computer downloaded, using Microsoft's cutting-edge Windows DRM technology.

Shahrukh's Kiddie Fan!

11 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlAGENCIES

She has all his DVDs, posters, audio CDs of SRK stashed away neatly in her cupboard.

Shah Rukh Khan has fans all over the world, but we came across this adorable fan that truly deserves a mention. It's this 5-year-old girl called Imaan who is crazy about him.

She has all his DVDs, posters, audio CDs, stashed away neatly in her cupboard. She wraps up her homework quickly, and dashes to watch his movies on television.

Recently when the family went to London on vacation, instead of wanting to do kiddie things, the only place she wanted to go was Madame Tussaud's , to see the wax statue of her hero waiting to greet her.

Of course, to appease the child, her parents had to stay in a hotel on Baker Street that's whistling distance from the gallery. With millions of Indians around SRK, li'l Imaan could hardly ever get up close to get a picture with the superstar. At the age of five, the height hardly helped. So if SRK is listening , we're sure his heart will melt. And we're not talking about the moum ka putla!
