SRK's double role with a difference

By Manisha Vardhan, MovieTalkies.com, 2 June 2007

According to reports doing the rounds, Shah Rukh Khan has a double role in Farah Khan's forthcoming Om Shanti Om. He plays the roles of Om and Om, again. But unlike other double roles, the two Oms do not come face to face ever in the film. Apparently, the first Om is a junior artist, who is killed by a jealous hero, played by Arjun Rampal. Om, the junior artist is then reborn as Om!

Besides the reincarnation theme, which is a direct take off from Subash Ghai's Karz, the film also takes potshots at the who's who of the Hindi film industry in the 70s. One of the main targets is believed to be Manoj Kumar. But it's all believed to be in good faith with no malice intended. Of course, Shah Rukh and Farah are counting on the fact that people will see the humour in it.

SRK to shoot for Hirani's movie from December?

Abid, Bollywood Trade News Network

It seems like Shah Rukh Khan will start shooting for Rajkumar Hirani's next project from December 2007. The script of the movie is already complete and King Khan has seen and more or less approved it.

While on Hirani and his star of the unforgettable Munnabhai series, Sanjay Dutt, a section of the media has been spreading the rumour that Dutt is not happy with Hirani for casting SRK.

However, the truth of the matter is that it was Sanjay Dutt who had told Hirani to go ahead and start shooting with Shah Rukh Khan, as once and for all Dutt wants to get over with his legal battles, before he starts shooting for the next in the series, MUNNA BHAI CHALE AMERICA.

SRK joins Salman's league...

Shah Rukh Khan and India's greatest contemporary artist M F Husain will together create a painting in a 'live' effort. The painting will then be auctioned by Bonhams of London on the spot.

Shah Rukh Khan will soon be headed to London to contribute his artistic skill to a painting to be created jointly with the greatest contemporary artist of India M F Husain! This event will take place on June 7, 2007.

The Bollywood star will join wife Gauri – who is a well-known art collector – and children Aryaan and Suhana in London.

The joint painting with Husain will be a 'live' effort and will be auctioned by Bonhams of London on the spot. DNA reports that many other joint artist-celebrity paintings will also go under the hammer at this auction.

Anjana Kuthiala, the artist who has painted many portraits of SRK, says that collaborative art pieces have become a big trend today. Her own painting called 'SRK and the flowering tree' has contributions from celebrities including Sonu Nigam and SRK's mother-in-law Savita Chibber.

This painting will be auctioned in New York later this year to coincide with the India economic summit in which speakers like V S Naipaul, Vijay Mallya, Ram Jethmalani and Praful Patel will participate.

Ranbir to romance SRK's Girl

Siddharth Anand tried hard to keep the cast of his next Yash Raj film under wraps because the young director was not allowed to talk about his next film as of now.

Unabnle to do so the news is that Ranbir Kapoor will be romancing Deepika Padukone in Siddharth's new film. This film is both Ranbir's and Deepika's second film post their debut films, namely Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saanwariya and Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om, respectively.

Even though both Ranbir and Deepika are under contracts (until their debut films release) with Bhansali and Shah Rukh Khan's production house, respectively, both newcomers have been given a green signal from both the quarters.

Neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Bhansali wants to bind the two youngsters. They were more than willing gave their consent to let the two debutantes come together for their second film."

Bipasha Basu is also opposite Ranbir in an intriguing role.

The actress isn't allowed to comment on.

Chak De India based on real life story of Mir Negi

By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 5, 2007 - 10:15 IST

After Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Yash Raj's next film lined up for release would be Chak De India. The film has already attracted lot of attention as it stars Shah Rukh Khan in the role of a hockey coach, something which he has never attempted before. The film will also introduce some new girls who are a part of the girls' hockey team which Shah Rukh coaches.

Yash Raj Films generally keep their film plots under wraps. Similar is the case with Chak De India since the storyline of the film is not being disclosed yet. However, the latest buzz is that the film is based on the life of an Indian hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi.

Negi was the hockey goalkeeper of the Indian team during the Asian Games 1982. During the Asian games, India faced a defeat with the score of 1-7 against Pakistan. This was a humiliating experience for Negi. Later in his life, Negi coached the National Women's hockey team and the team went on to win Gold at the Manchester Commonwealth games. Chak De India is said to have a similar storyline and SRK seems to be portraying Negi's character in the film. Interestingly, Shah Rukh sports slight stubble in the film which resembles Negi's look.

Mir Ranjan Negi however remains tightlipped about the film and does not let out details but confirms that the film is based on his life. In fact, it is said that Negi had also accompanied Chak De India unit to Australia to guide them on the hockey field during the shoot. Shah Rukh, a college level hockey player himself, also didn't take long to pick up the game.

Chak De India is directed by Shimit Amin whose last film was Ab Tak Chhappan. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Vidya Malvade along with a group of debutante girls who are part of the hockey team. The first promotional music video of the film will be released during the screening of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Priyanka Chopra has not been replaced by Sushmita Sen in 'Don' sequel

05th June 2007 09.01 IST
By ApunKaChoice

We told you last month that former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen has replaced former Miss World Priyanka Chopra in the sequel of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don .

But now reports are that they were just baseless rumours and Priyanka indeed is starring in the sequel of the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don (1978) .

Farhan Akhtar is making the sequel with SRK and Priyanka in the lead.

This will be the first time in Bollywood history that a sequel to a remake is being made.

The screenplay is being written and other actors are being considered for pivotal roles, reports say.

Reports further add that this time on, the production will have to be much more spectacular and embellished with superb effects.

Akhtar has the difficult task of overtaking benchmarks already set by Dhoom 2 and Krrish .

The 'Don' sequel will have to be one notch higher than all these epoch-makers to make a mark among film watchers.

Reports added that SRK and Priyanka have already inked in dates for the film in early 2008.

SRK's Chak De India tells the story of former hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi. Negi plays a role in the film too

Shah Rukh Khan in Chak de

Yash Raj Production's Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De India retells the story of former Indian hockey goalkeeper and coach of the national women's team Mir Ranjan Negi. The plot traces the journey of a troubled player who was charged with match-fixing after India lost out to Pakistan in the 1982 Asian Games at New Delhi. Later, he went on to coach the national women's team that won gold in the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. Shah Rukh may be playing a grizzly bearded Negi in the film, but even Negi has a pivotal role in the film.

Producer Aditya Chopra primarily wanted Negi to on the sets to assist Shah Rukh and also to ensure that the scenes in the hockey field looked authentic. However, in no time he was handed out a role. He had also accompanied the cast and the crew to Australia where a major portion of the film was shot. A reliable source tells us, "Before we started shooting, Negi sir had spent quite a few days with Shah Rukh. He shared all his experiences and gave major inputs as far as the game is concerned. Negi sir was later given a role in the film. He shot to perfection and film looks good."

The source further adds, "For Negi sir ,it was like re-living the past. There have been times when he had broken down. He had tremendous courage as he proved everyone wrong when the women's team bagged gold in the field hockey category."

Going by the tradition, the production house has given a gag order to Negi along with the cast and crew members. However, the story-line and exclusive stills in possession of this paper clearly indicate that it is based on Negi's life and times. The on-line synopsis of Chak De India as available is: The film follows a coach, who is fighting his personal demons as he takes a motley group of girls to the pinnacle of world hockey.

Negi, however, refused to comment.

WHO IS MIR RANJAN NEGI ?

Mumbai-based former hockey goalkeeper and coach Mir Ranjan Negi was probed for alleged match-fixing after India's humiliating 1-7 loss to Pakistan in the 1982 Asian Games hockey final. In 1998, Negi's honour was redeemed when he was named India's goalkeepers' coach for Bangkok from where India returned with an Asian Games gold medal after 32 years. In 1999, the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) invited Negi to take charge of the 11 goalkeepers selected for the 2000 Olympics. Later, he coached the national women's team that also won gold at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

Some tips for Shah Rukh Khan

04 Jun, 2007 07:53 pm IST

After Deepika Padukone, it's the turn of another model-turned-actor, Shawar Ali to get Shah Rukh Khan's advice. Shawar is doing a cameo role in Farah Khan's forthcoming film Om Shanti Om .

And Shawar told us that during the shooting SRK gave him some important tips. He told Shawar that one should always be ready to learn from the mistakes and see to it that it's not repeated again.

"Shah Rukh would make me sit on the monitor and see from behind the camera as to how he shoots with different variations for the same scene," he says.

But even Shawar started giving SRK some tips, fitness ones! Do we see a mutual admiration society forming here?

Go for it, SRK

And now Shah Rukh Khan is set to become the next superhero, reportedly in Shirish Kunder's next

Posted On Friday, June 08, 2007

Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan's association is turning out to be more than mutually beneficial. Even before Om Shanti Om hits the editing room, SRK has agreed to do a sci-fi film with Farah's husband Shirish Kunder, and in all likelihood it's a superhero film. Which means that SRK is soon to become a superhero.

Sources indicate that the trend of desi-superhero worshipping is here to stay. After the likes of Krrish (Krrish now gears up to fight the demons within in the next instalment) and Drona (this superhero is yet to make an appearance), Shah Rukh and Shirish might just have something better to offer. And we are not complaining.

The buzz is that these leading actors — Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and now Shah Rukh — are having a fist fight over producing the best Bollywood superhero. While the Bachchans are working hard at making Drona one of its kind, SRK has also joined the bandwagon with this ambitious project.

While the makers continue to be tight-lipped, our sources tell us that extensive research is in progress. Shirish and his team are busy trying to create 'a gentleman extraordinaire' who not only rescues women in distress but also plays a pivotal role in environmental issues as important as global warming, says our source.

Shah Rukh, who has been trying to up the quality of special effects at his VFX studio, will be shouldering the responsibility of special effects in this film. He has been working at making his studio truly FX-savvy. In an earlier interview, the actor had highly spoken about the special effects used in the film 300, which is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae (in 480 B.C.) and his plans of taking optical illusions further.

Says our source, "Of late Shah Rukh has been talking about an extremely creative film. After much brainstorming he is working in tandem with Shrish for this film. But the film will hit the floors only next year." Farah Khan was unavailable for comment.
