Don takes on Munnabhai

Guess who's working with the Munnabhai series director?

RUBINA A KHAN Times News Network

Director Raj Kumar Hirani's next film does not star the original Munnabhai, Sanjay Dutt. This film (an untitled one so far) has nothing to do with Munnabhai and is a take on the education system. And Don, Shah Rukh Khan stars in Hirani's new film. Even as script work is still under way, SRK has given his nod to the film which will start shooting towards the end of the year. So, it's not going to be the third sequel Munnabhai Chale America or bringing the popular novel 5 Point Someone to the big screen for Hirani right away. It's the aforementioned film with SRK that is keeping Hirani busy for now. It will be the first time the duo will be working together, definitely a new 'circuit' for both. The director is currently away at Cannes and was unavailable for comment.

Amitabh Bachchan praises Shah Rukh Khan

Mumbai, May 24 (AP): Indian movie icon Amitabh Bachchan says actor Shah Rukh Khan has done a great job as his successor on a popular television show.

Bachchan told Stardust movie magazine in its June issue that he disliked comparisons with Khan, 41, who replaced him as the host of ''Kaun Banega Crorepati,''.

''He is enjoying doing it and is receiving great acclaim,'' Bachchan was quoted as saying. ''Comparisons are odious. They only make good media copy.''

''He is a warm and caring person deserving of all the love and affection that the masses give him,'' Bachchan added.

The actor also ruled out returning to the show. ''TV is a tough job,'' he said. ''At 65, I doubt if I can face that challenge. Shah Rukh is a wonderful choice for KBC.''

''Kaun Banega Crorepati'' is one of the most popular television programs in India. It was suspended last year after Bachchan was hospitalized with an intestinal ailment.

Television channel Star Entertainment India revived the show with Khan as the host in January.

Will Shah Rukh Khan Act In Hindi 'Casablanca'?

'Casablanca', one of the cult classics of Hollywood, is going to be remade in Hindi by an acclaimed filmmaker.

T Rajeevnath, a National Award winning filmmaker, is all set for a daunting task. He wants to make a Hindi movie inspired from the 1942 flick 'Casablanca' that starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

The Hindi remake is said to be roughly titled 'Sangam', and its script has been written by Rajeevnath himself. Rajeevnath believes 'Casablanca' is one of the most outstanding movies of the last century.

The Oscar-winning film had Humphrey Bogart in the role of an expatriate American named Rick Blaine, who owns and runs a casino in Casablanca. Ingrid Bergman played Rick's ex-lover Ilsa Lund, who is married to another man. The film is about the inner conflict of Rick as he finds himself torn between his feelings for Ilsa and his duty to do the right thing by helping her husband, who is a resistance hero fighting against the Nazis.

Rajeevnath is hoping to sign none other than Shah Rukh Khan to play the role essayed by Bogart in the Hollywood classic. According to Rajeevnath, SRK has the charm and flamboyance to carry the role with conviction. Rajeevnath is looking forward to approach SRK in the coming days.

As for the movie's heroine, Rajeevnath hasn't decided yet. But he wants an actress of big stature.

For the time being, the filmmaker has signed A R Rahman to compose the film's music and songs.

The Hindi remake of 'Casablanca' will be shot in Andaman Islands and Shimla.

The film's shooting will begin by the end of this year.

Krazy kiya re!

Rumours about a not-so-traditional relationship have been hounding Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar for years, but trust SRK to throw all prudence to the wind and step out wearing a shirt with the letter 'K' proudly stamped on his shirt!

Now if this isn't an endorsement of utter devotion to his good friend, we don't know what is!

Setting SRK's pants on fire

"SRK and I met during Josh and we wanted to create something different with jeans.

Mansoor's sister Nuzat and I were doing the film together. We just couldn't figure how to make the jeans different, because everyone was wearing jeans anyway.

What could we do to make them different? SRK offered 'I have these old pairs of jeans, if you want you can use them.' We said okay and wondered what to do with them.

We were smoking. A lighter touched the lower portion of the jeans and burnt them. We thought, 'Oh god now what should we do?' But the frayed bottom gave the pair a new look so we burnt the entire lower portion.

The other pair we cut and sprayed all over and SRK said, 'Wow what did you do?' He also wore this earring on the side of his ear and it became such a rage that they were sold all over the place.

After the film, everyone was wearing frayed jeans and earrings! SRK is absolutely hassle free. He'd quietly wear whatever we gave him."

URVASHI ASHAR
INDIATIMES MOVIES

It was recently that trade analyst Komal Nahata decided to come out with a film business magazine which he named 'The Film Street Journal'. And the person to launch this new initiative was none other than Shah Rukh Khan along with friend Karan Johar.

SAY CHEERS! SRK is facing brickbats for endorsing alcohol but he says he's socially conscious about it.

Mumbai: He doesn't drink but that doesn't stop superstar Shah Rukh Khan from endorsing alcohol. Well, we guess that's what it takes to be a good actor.

It was the launch of an alcohol brand and it was after a rather long wait of a song and dance performance by actress Amrita Arora, that the band ambassador Shah Rukh Khan finally made an appearance.

And in his inimitable style began the evening by saying "Kaun kambakt jeene ke liye pita hain… (Who says we drink to live…)."

But when Shah Rukh Khan launches something he does it in style and with a lot of thought.

"Yes, one does give a thought when it comes to a product in which perhaps, one would not like to over indulge," Shah Rukh Khan says.

Though, the King Khan may be facing some brickbats for endorsing alcohol, he says he's being socially conscious about it.

"Little children should not drink and little children when they grow up should also not drink. I, too, don't drink," Shah Rukh Khan said.

Without mincing words, the actor explains, "It's strange when people say you should use the product that you endorse but I have no qualms in saying that I don't drink."

It will be interesting to see if the Badshah takes this endorsement to dizzying heights.
