Day 1 in the Bigg Boss House

Opening of the Bigg Boss House - Day 1
Well the contestants have been announced and the first episode has been screened. We're still rocking from the 9pm show from Sony and are simply flabbergasted about the amount of exposure Bigg Boss is receiving but also how much the Indian public are getting into the hit reality show that is Bigg Boss.

Firstly to the contestants… well what a mixture we have! Firstly there's the sexy stunning corner, which sees Rakhi Sawant, Carol Gracias, Anupama Verma, Kashmira Shah but also Aryan Vaid and Deepak Parashar. Then there's the intellectual corner (they don't need much space there) here, we have Ravi Kissen, Rahul Roy and I would even put Anupama Verma in that category, then there's the sweet section... we have former lanky cricketer Salil Ankola and actress Rupali Ganguly. Then finally we have the wonderfully weird world of Bobby Darling, the only (that we know of) gay in the whole household. What a bunch! And how will they fare with each other?!

So any shocks on opening night? Well the stars came in Toyotas! Shocking behaviour from Sony really, what happened to the Rolls Royce's and helicopters Sony had promised… Sony had better buck up soon, we have heard of many households who have lost transmission of their Sony channel while watching Bigg Boss, in fact we lost our transmission! We called them but there was no answer!

But as a spectacle, Bigg Boss opening night was awesome. The girls looked awesome and the guys looked average I guess, no seriously, the guys looked good, Bobby Darling had too much make up on and host Arshad Warsi was at his swaggering sizzling best. Arshad Warsi was on form tonight; just imagine if he was one of the contestants, he would walk home with the winning prize.

Kashmira and Rakhi's Don dance was a great teaser to open proceedings and these two sirens will surely grab a lot of attention in the next 100 days to come. These two hot sultry vixens may also end up sharing a bed together which will come as an absolute delight to all our male fans. Guys calm down, this is the opening night and you're already excited… go have a cold shower!

So closing comments are as follows: Great opening night. Stars looked fantastic, really geared up for the event, and we cannot wait for the next 99 days to unfold.

The countdown starts today… 99 days left… 13 celebrities in the house…

How will things unfold?
Who will romance who?
Can Bobby Darling last one week before being slapped?

Carol Gracias' trade secrets

Carol Marie Gracias, who is very popular on the ramp, is known for her poise and her professionalism. The dusky Carol loves modelling; her only crib is against the Indian penchant for those with fair skins.

What she is wearing: A loose, asymmetrical, brown and black striped tunic that stops shy of the waistband of her short blue denim skirt.

She likes wearing: Trousers, long skirts. "This is the first time in a week I'm wearing something so short," she says.

Her beauty regimen: She uses Medimix or Margo soap to wash her face every day ("I've been through so many face washes it isn't even funny"), drinks lots of water and sticks to minimal makeup when not working ("I believe the skin should be allowed to breathe").

Her bag will always contain: A moisturizer; an Elizabeth Arden all-purpose cream; a pen; paper, her wallet and her cell phone, which she cannot live without.

After IFW: "I think I'm going to need another vacation [she is just back from a vacation to London and Rome] to recuperate. But I have shows lined up. It would be good to have some time to myself, to do some shopping. I guess a little pampering should do it."

She likes wearing: Hemant Trevedi ("He made three outfits for me, one of which I've worn once and will never wear it again because it's so beautiful"), Wendell Rodricks and Rajesh Pratap Singh.

Her schedule: "Is shattering, really. It's been a week of working from 8 am to 9pm and we're almost ready to bite each others' heads off."

Why she always looks fresh at her shoots despite gruelling schedules: "Makeup my dear, makeup. Haven't you heard about the wonders of makeup?"

'Moo' ki baat

13 contestants and a cow will have a ball on Bigg Boss soon, reveals Sandeep Sikcand

Subhash K Jha

Carol Gracias will knead dough, Rakhi Sawant and Bobby Darling will play chess in a very awkward position, Aryan Vaid will teach them the right positions (on the chess board), Bobby Darling will hit on one of the guys…

And a cow will make a special appearance at the Karjat house where the 13 contestants for Bigg Boss are holed up. "If you ask me, the biggest celebrity on Bigg Boss would be the cow that makes an appearance on the set next week," says Sandeep Sikcand of Sony TV.

So, why the rather poor turn-up of celebrities on the show? "Look, we did ask so-called bigger names. But they asked for ridiculous amounts of money. I think we've finally got an eclectic mix of people from different walks of life," he replies.

An eclectic mix of people who are going to have sex after being given a clean chit in an HIV test? "With all this excitement in the first week do you think the show needs sex? The contestants are free to have sex if they want. But I doubt that would be the case. At heart we're all Indians. And Sony is an Indian family channel. So I don't know where this news about sex on the show comes from. We're certainly not advocating a peep show here. We're going to capture the contestants doing normal things in the beautiful house that we've specially built for Bigg Boss with a swimming pool, et al in Karjat. Of course the contestants are excited and they are planning to do all sorts of things. But no sex. They'll do normal things like play games, cook food, etc," he replies.

We guess only time will tell what's 'normal' and what isn't.

"I am very scared of the Bigg Boss... Rupali Ganguly"

The wait for the baap of all reality shows, The Bigg Boss is soon to end with the show going on air today. Though it's speculated that many big names were approached to participate in this show, only a select few braved enough to give up their cozy lifestyle to be trapped in a mansion with strangers! Imagine being constantly spied by cameras, being shunned by all sorts of entertainment and eventually throwing your life open in front of the telly viewer!

One such sporting contestant of this hungama packed reality show is Rupali Ganguly aka Monisha of Sarabhai VS Sarabhai fame. This vivacious and loquacious actor took up this show as a challenge, as she puts it in her own words, "The concept sounded very strange initially, so I refused it point black. But later I thought of not missing out on such an opportunity!"

Here's a candid and exclusive chat with a rather scared and apprehensive Rupali who is busy packing off to Karjat, where the contestants will be sheltered for three whole months!

"I know Ektaa on personal level as well as on a professional front"

The buzz goes that only losers have taken on Bigg Boss….What's your take?

I am very hurt by some news reports which have called me a loser. I have not taken up the show because I have nothing else to do, but because I want to do something different. In fact, not many know but I was also offered Zee's Sindoor Tere Naam Ka. The role was on the lines of Tabu in Viraasat. I am not sure if it was the lead role, but it was definitely a very promising character.

So you chose Bigg Boss over Sindoor?
Ya. I have these weird mood swings in life, you know. And there's nothing really exciting happening. Something which makes me get up in the morning, put on my makeup and make me commit myself for a 12 hour shift. So, one fine day I just decided that I wanted do this, so I can tell my grandchildren that I did something like this.

Ok, let's be honest. You must have been apprehensive initially?
Yes, of course. I got a call from the channel about three months ago. My first reaction was… are you crazy. Because the concept of being cut off from the world, with no communication whatsoever sounded a rather eerie. So, initially I said no to them. I don't have a boyfriend, so I wouldn't really be pining to speak to someone throughout the day. But, I am a totally family person. My dad doesn't keep too well, so I need to speak to him everyday. And then my mother and my dogs. I have seven of them.

Then what made you change your mind?
I don't have a boyfriend, so obviously its not that I would be pining to speak to someone throughout the day. But I am a totally family person and my dad doesn't keep too well. So, I need to speak to him everyday, my mother and my dogs. I have seven of them.

"I am not seeing Anita Hasnandani"

Which thought scares you the most right now?

I've never ever lived away from my family, or lived on my own, not even in a hostel. I am going to miss my own room, my parents, my pillows and my dogs.

How did you finally say yes?
I called up J D Majethia who means a lot to me and asked him for advice. To tell you frankly, I was a bit scared of revealing my true self to viewers. And what if it backfires.
on me in the future. But somehow, JD has assured me that he will give me work, no matter what. Also, I've never ever lived away from my family, or lived on my own, not even in a hostel. I am going to miss my own room, my parents, my pillows and my dogs

Even now you sound very scared and hesitant. Why so? Aren't you still convinced about the show?
You're right. I am still scared because we have been told nothing at all about the show. I I've never ever lived away from my family, or lived on my own, not even in a hostel. I am going to miss my own room, my parents, my pillows and my dogs. Also, we haven't been briefed in detail about the show. I just know that I am going to be with a few other participants in a room. Our reactions will be monitored, but then we don't get to know the audiences' reactions. No hairdresser, no make up. I am really sacred of being watched by the entire nation sans makeup. I think I'll look very bad
.

So how much money are you being paid for the show?
I cannot reveal the exact amount, but it's definitely something that I earn over a period of twelve months.

Will you evolve as a person because of Bigg Boss?

My mother feels I need to be disciplined as a person. I don't get up early in the mornings, don't exercise and just keep throwing things around in the house. My three month long stay in Karjat will hopefully help me evolve as a person.

"I believe in living life on my own terms"

Then what happened that you decided to change your mind?
I don't have a boyfriend, so obviously its not that I would be pining to speak to someone throughout the day. But I am a totally family person and my dad doesn't keep too well. So, I need to speak to him everyday, my mother and my dogs. I have seven of them.
I had requested the channel if I could make at least one call to my dad, they aid no. It seems they will pass on all the messages to us.

You mean to say, you don't know much about what's going to be happening there. But you are just going off to Karjat?
I have no clue who the other contestants are. I just know that we're going to be put up at Karjat, there's a gym and a swimming pool. But, of course, you will never see me in a swimsuit. The only saving cameras will not follow us in the bathroom.

So what happens to your role in Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki.. for three months?
In any case, I don't get too much footage on the show. There are 37 actors and at the end of it its Sakshi's story, with her family and husband. Also, there are a number of established actors and characters on the show. Though, I would say Balaji is one of the best production houses that one can work with. And, of course, Hats off is family for me.

So, why don't you ask Ekta for a role?
I I have never ever been a PR person, so I have never really gone around asking for roles from producers. And in any case, Ekta is too intelligent a person who can spot talent and characters. So, if she has a role, she will definitely offer me one.

Couch potato's let-down of the week- The Bigg Boss participants as published in a calculated leak to the media. None sound exciting enough for one to watch them sleep, eat, gossip, whatever. Or is the channel hiding some star participants as a surprise?

Leggy model joins Bigg Boss party

Model Carol Gracias on Bigg Boss
Model Carol Gracias is set to take a 'bigg' step. She is due to feature in Sony TV's hit reality show Bigg Boss which airs tonight @ 9pm! Her presence is the Bigg Boss house will explain her absence from the annual Lakme India Fashion Week, the prized destination for all models at present. This is also the first time in the history of the LIFW that Carol has decided not to be part of it.

So why has Carol decides to ditch LIFW and jump on the Bigg Boss bandwagon? It's a money thing of course! Bigg Boss is paying her much more money than LIFW and like any other intelligent model (is there such a thing!) Carol has opted for financial security (and unprecedented) exposure as being the first model to be confirmed as one of the Bigg Boss contestants.

Bigg Boss starts tonight!

Bigg Boss India, the latest Indian entertainment craze is set to air tonight on Sony TV, and the excitement is all set to begin!

The concept and premise is simple. 13 celebrities will be confined inside a specially designed house where every single point in the house (apart from the bathrooms) is within view of a video camera. The housemates will be watched by 28 cameras. They will be there for 100 days, with no outside contact, no internet, no MSN, no mobile phones, no TV, no Bollywood, simply nothing but the company of each other. Contestants will have daily activities to complete which will be allocated by host Arshad Warsi. Through these tasks, the housemates will have the chance to win their weekly shopping budget. With this budget, they can buy basic food, groceries, etc. to help them survive in the house.

The luxurious and contemporary Bigg Boss set is being constructed at Karjat by the famous designer Nitin Desai, who has previously designed the sets of various hit TV shows like KBC, Khuljaa Sim Sim, Great Indian Laughter Challenge and several Bollywood movies. The house will be set in an open plot surrounded by a scenic view of mountains. It has one drawing/dinning room, two large bedrooms, a swimming pool, a fully equipped gymnasium and a high tech kitchen. These contestants will really be living it in style!

This high-tech house also has an added Indian ethnic flavour to it. There is an Indian style chess board with horses and elephants and a Ganesh idol on the door. And there is a temple as well with Ganeshji on one side and a crucifix on the other.

There is a Sikh Symbol next to the Holy Koran, which signifies unity in diversity. It is only after celebrities enter the house, they will know which other celebrities are participating. Exciting stuff!
It all starts tonight at 9pm.

The phenomenon that is Arshad Warsi

Circuit from Munnabhai - Arshad Warsi
After the mega success of Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Arshad is back hosting and anchoring the eagerly anticipated Bigg Boss contest in India, a hit reality show inspired by the international Big Brother

Warsi has come a long way since his days as a choreographer. Good friend and director Joy Augustine coaxed Arshad into the art of acting and Warsi hasn't looked back since. His first film was Tere Mere Sapne, while he will always fondly be remembered as Circuit, in the two Munna Bhai comedy classics, in which he won a Zee Cine Award Best Actor in a Comic Role for his commendable performance

A string of big banner movies followed, and Warsi was seen in the recent hit Salaam Namaste, Hulchul, and Chocolate. His forthcoming movies include Kisse Pyaar Karoon; and Yun Hota to Kya Hota, Unusual Love Story and the eagerly awaited Umrao Jaan starring Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

Hosting the Bigg Boss event is another scoop for Warsi who is hotly tipped to become one of Bollywood's most talented comedians.

Riya Sen says NO to Bigg Boss

Riya Sen says no to Bigg Boss
Riya Sen, the sexy sultry Bollywood vixen has confirmed she has declined Sony TV's offer to become one of the lucky 13 contestants for Bigg Boss India.

Sen, who is now, back to doing music videos believes Sony have offered almost 90% of the Bollywood industry an opportunity to become a contestant simply for PR purposes. "I was approached by Endemol for that show. But I immediately refused them. They had offered me a good amount of money but I was not tempted. I am not looking forward to doing television shows at this point of time. Apart from films, I would rather do music videos and ad films."

Endemol did not throw up Ashmit Patel's name to Riya when they spoke to her. "They told me about Amrita Arora, Dino Morea and Sohail Khan. I think they have offered it to 90 per cent of the industry. But if this is their way of creating buzz and getting publicity, then I don't want to comment on anything more about that programme."

Bigg Boss special commentator Omar Ahmed believes Riya Sen was probably right in her decision to say no. 'Riya is an up and coming Bollywood actress, she might not be Number 1, or even close to that, but her advisors probably advised her that coming on Bigg Boss for a 100 days would be a step down rather than a step up. Plus, taking 100 days out of shooting at such a young age would have professional suicide.

Chief Creative Director for Bigg Boss speaks his mind

Sandiip Sikcand is delighted with Bigg Boss
Sandiip Sikcand's name will probably go down in Indian folklore. His is the responsibility for signing the 13 contestants for the first ever Big Brother India event, and it's a responsibility he is delighted to accept. He also thinks certain celebrities might find it difficult interacting with each other.

"Celebs are understandably scared at the boldness of the show and wonder if they will be able to keep up the charade for 100 days. Then there are some celebs who see this as a money making venture and are quoting exorbitant amounts to be a part of it. We have clear budgets and a concept that wants only celebs with distinct personalities. We have an interesting house and it is a great mix of personalities that one will see," says Sandiip.

Sandiip also goes on to praise Sony TV for tackling and ultimately presenting such a dynamic off the wall show. Bigg Boss is unlike any other Indian hit reality show and the quality and design that is going on in Bigg Boss is something very special. I have just returned from the sets in Karjat and the scale, details and the comforts provided for the celebs like a gym, swimming pool, etc, are all state of the art and the pre and post production facilities are on par with international standards," quips Siikcand.
