Day 17 in the Bigg Boss House

Anupama and Aryan are once again exchanging sweet pleasantries and it's not hard to see why. Anupama is looking immensely beautiful and you can tell Aryan is simply smitten with her.

They are flirting by the fire place and he is trying ever so hard to be intimate with her. He touches her hand, her leg and she giggles.

The morning song wakes up the contestants; they rub their eyes, brush their teeth and start getting dressed.

It's 12:30pm and Anupama is cutting Ravi's hair. He is making her laugh with his witty jokes, boy lets not hope Aryan gets jealous! But it turns out, Ravi is trying to set her up with Aryan. Good luck Ravi.

Its 3pm now and Rakhi is lounging by the pool. She is unhappy with Carol, and calls her a donkey! Hee Haw! She calls Carol bewakoof and another donkey, and says Baja Carols band! Go Rakhi!! She now calls her a monkey and says she will sort her out. Boy she sounds mad!

Now she starts on Rupali, calling her a disgusting liar. She adds that Rupali is kissing everyone's arse. Now she starts on Ravi and calls him artificial. Wow Rakhi is really pouring out her heart! She seems genuinely unhappy about events. She also says at least Kash is true to herself, if she doesn't like someone, she tells them!

It's early evening now and the contestants are having a general chit chat inside the house. Rakhi is being interviewed by BB

BB: How do you find life in the BB household?

Rakhi: I'm not enjoying it at all, I hate Carol, and I don't get on with the girls, we're all separate people, the guys are fine, they're enjoying each others company, but I feel like crying sometimes. (Rakhi starts crying)

Next up is Kashmira, who is being interviewed by BB

Kash: I know that Rupali and Carol are going to have a big argument!

Deepak is next!

Deepak: I'm astonished at the events in this household, lots of excitement.

The task of the day is to take a small raft from the kitchen and put it in the swimming pool. Seems like a pretty pointless task, and the contestants think the same. They all have to pretend they're Tipu Sultan. Ravi is really getting into the role and is making Deepak T laugh.

Anupama and Carol are in the kitchen, and are having an argument. Anupama says Carol is being snappy, and Carol feels Anupama voting for her to be booted out earlier on in the competition. They really don't like each other!

Anupama is going off in a rant now and it's getting funny!

Kash feels the reason she was nominated because they're all scared of her, because she tells the truth. She feels Bobby and Deepak were poor victims, but little does she realise that SHE voted to boot Deepak out of the competition earlier. She feels she will be sorely missed if she's kicked out.

It's 8pm now and Rakhi seems to have cheered up, she is performing some item numbers for the gang and they love it.

It's 1:30am now and the gang are having a laugh. Aryan is offended than Amit has shown his ass in public and is complaining to his love Anupama. He is really offended, although earlier he said he didn't mind!

In a fit of temper, he now tells Amit how he feels, and Amit apologies, Anupama is feeling uncomfortable but the two guys shake hands and its all forgotten… or is it?

Amit goes back in the bedroom and loses his temper. Who the hell is Aryan to tell him, meanwhile Aryan is still annoyed at Amit. This is the first time two guys are becoming loggerheads. Watch this space!

This time, it's Kashmera vs Carol!
It was yet another scary sunday in the Bigg Boss house. The day when the contestants vote against their own family members! After a quiet voting ritual, the final nominations came as a shock! Not for others, but for Kashmera... and of course, Carol. They got the largest number of nominations for eviction.

Bigg boss assigned yet another weekly task - called Taapu (Island), Sultan (King) and Ghulaam (Slave). Carol behaved rudly with Anupama for no reason and Rahul came to her rescue. Rahul pacified Anupama by asking her not to compromise on her values. Rakhi breaks down in the confession room saying Rahul and Ravi is giving her a tough time. Watch out for who nominated whom in the recap section

The idiot box gets real!

Most television channels are piggybacking reality shows for higher TRPs

A major part of reality television's appeal is due to its ability to place ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Zee TV can be credited for bringing reality shows on the small screen almost 14 years ago with 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa', but it is with KBC (Star Plus) that these shows gained a sizeable audience. And there has been no stopping since.

Endemol India MD Rajesh Kamat says, "Format shows provide a blueprint and succeed in reaching a larger audience only as long as it addresses universal emotions of love, hate, anger, jealousy, desire, etc."

Stating that there are different categories of reality shows-documentary style, special living environment, celebrity reality, professional activities, game shows, dating based contests, job search, sports, self improvement or makeover, dating shows, talk shows, hoaxes and hidden cameras — Kamat adds, "The percentage of reality shows to the programming mix is increasing and very soon may become 2-15 percent of the schedule as compared to soaps. Fiction is dal and rice whereas reality shows are the spice. But fiction being replaced by non-fiction genre is doubtful."

'Zee Cinestars', 'Boogie Woogie', 'Bigg Boss', 'Laughter Champion2', 'Nach Baliye2', 'Rin Mera Star Superstar' and 'MTV Roadies' are some of the shows airing on the prime time slot right now. They are getting noticed by word of mouth, the superbly orchestrated marketing drama that supports them and the novelty factor it contains.

With 'Indian Idol 1' (Sony) reportedly recording 5.5 crores SMS' for the entire series and 'L'iL Champs' (Zee) recieving over 1 crore 30 lakh SMS' in the last three weeks, it's no wonder then that channels are willing to spend anywhere between Rs 3 to Rs 25 crores on such format shows. Then there are 'Advertiser Funded Programmes' (AFP) which are of a different scale. "Rin Mera.." (Star Plus) is an AFP show as the brand funds it as an alternative to merely sponsoring ad breaks," explains Kamat.

Sony's chief creative director Sandiip Sikcand says, "We are planning to air soaps during weekdays and reality shows on weekends. With 11 of Sony's top 20 shows being reality based, we have only just begun to get aggressive." To this, Kamat says, "Audiences on Mondays to Thursdays are mostly loyal audiences and the weekend audience is a flirtatious one."

With 'Bigg Boss' invading our screens seven days a week, it is a sign of things to come. But at the end of the day, these shows are going to be relevant to Indian audiences only if it is rooted in our own cultural idiom.

Day 16 & 17: Politics didn't work for Kashmera
She played all her cards and the result is here, right before us. Kashmera got six nominations from the other contestants for eviction. So what will be her next move? We don't know about later, but for the time being, an upset and gloomy Kashmera was seen cutting onions in the kitchen. Taking out her anger on the onions? In the afternoon, she blurted out that everybody wants her out as they're scared of her. Oh really Kashmera? Was everybody scared of Bobby darling as well? Carol is cool: She received the news of her nomination with a smile. Carol has received four votes from her family and yet the cool girl was heard giggling with others in the pool side. We understand dear, what is there to worry when you've all the guys worrying about you? Later, Rahul and Deepak advised her to be a little more careful about her moves and carefree attitude. Who backstabbed whom: Welcome to the weirdest house in the world where each member is eager to throw the other out of the door. This week, nominations started early in the morning. After a silent reaction to the otherwise exciting wake-up jingle, the inmates gathered in the hall for nominations. The first one to enter the confession room was Deepak. He nominated Ragini Shetty and Kashmera. He claimed that he has not interacted much with Ragini at all and he chose Kashmera because she doesn't help others in the kitchen. Oh..you mean you like Kashmera otherwise, Deepak? Kashmera chose Carol and Amit. According to her, Amit should leave the house because he cracks vulgar jokes, is frustrated and misses his girlfriend a lot. She chose Carol as they don't bond well. By the way, Kashmera, who is the one you bond well with? Rakhi? Isn't that the biggest joke of the house, dear? Next, it was the turn of Amit Saad who opened his heart out and requested that Kashmera should go out soon. He openly said that she was behaving well now only because she is insecure. His second nomination was Aryan who, he said, is extremely shrewd and pretentious. He is playing a cut-throat game and should be out for good. Anupama chose Amit because he is erratic and misses his girlfriend a lot. Her next choice was Carol as he felt Carol is not real. She is trying to portray herself as a different person out here. Ravi was straight and up-to-the-point. He picked Kashmera and Rakhi out of the bunch and said it's time for both of them to leave. Enough is enough is enough…what say? Aryan pointed towards Carol, saying she was not genuine. He chose Roopali because he thinks she can't stand up for herself. People call her names and she doesn't react for the fear of being nominated. He blurted out that nothing is worth losing your self respect. Carol nominated Kashmera as she can't trust her. Who can trust her anyways, Carol? Her next choice was Rakhi whose constant need for attention was getting quite irritating for her. This is one point no one mentioned earlier, but is so true. Rahul took the names of Kashmera and Rakhi as both are conspirators and constantly hurt others with their comments. Roopali broke down in the confession room, saying Kashmera constantly passed comments on her. She nominated Ragini for no reason at all. Finally it was Ragini's turn -- She nominated Ravi Kissen. She said Ravi is from a rich family and getting out of the house would not make any difference to him. She nominated Deepak because she doesn't know him well. Taapu, Sultan and Ghulam: the new weekly excitement : This time, Bigg Boss assigned an exciting weekly task called Taapu, Sultan and Ghulam. According to the game, one inmate has to play the sultan and the other ghulam. The sultan has to sit on a floating island, a raft floating in the middle of the swimming pool, and order the ghulam to do whatever he wants. Every person has to become the ghulam and the sultan once in the next three days. Of course, the ghulam has to serve the sultan. Once the inmates discovered the bamboo raft lying in the house, they had a jovial moment trying it out on the water. Ravi Kissen became the first sultan. Sitting on the raft, he kept complaining about an insect bothering him. Rakhi plays Chiranjeevi Rakhi, indeed, is an attention-hungry person. Otherwise, what is the point in mimicking Chiranjivi, the Telugu hero, while dancing? We guess, if the poor actor saw it, he would have buried his head in the sand out of shame.

Carol takes out her anger on Anupama 'Try and look into my eyes Anupama,' shouted an infuriated Carol in the kitchen. Carol apologised when Anupama fought back. Later, Rahul came to Anupama's rescue and cooled her anger.

The Aryan Attack
Aryan Vaid, Grasim Mr International 2000, gets framed!
By Amier Rajpal & Lata Pall

Awesome Aryan

DoB: 4 July 1974
Worked As: Chef at Leela Kempinski, Mumbai; flight steward with Sahara Airlines; catering for the Indian Medical Centre & the Rotary Centre, Mumbai
Fave Films: Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Love Story, Godfather & Grease
Fave Cologne: Polo Sport-at the mo.
Fave Hangout: Holiday Inn coffee shop, Mumbai
Fave Actor: Shah Rukh /Madhubala

How does it feel, Mr International 2000?
Before I went for the contest, I knew this would represent a milestone. No Indian guy had done well at an international pageant. So I felt it would be a turning point, not just for myself but also the way Indian models would be looked upon. The support that was given to me by the audience, hotel staff, the people... I felt very happy to win, not just for myself but for all the people. I had not let them down. I felt I had done my bit for the Indian spirit.

You are already into films...
I have three films lined up-Heartbeat opposite Pooja Batra, directed by Nitesh Roy, a Jhamu Sugandh film-System and Pradeep Chandera's Tanman.com which is a very unique film. Though it tackles moral issues, the whole story is along the lines of Wall Street using the IT industry and the Internet as a backdrop.

What sort of childhood did you have?
I would like to think, a happy one -though a very confused one. I have been very fortunate to have parents who have always guided me, three sisters who loved me. Today I realize the value of a good upbringing, as it has helped me become what I am.

What about your teenage years?
What they are supposed to be-total confusion! It was a trying time-coming to terms with myself, my career, my feelings for the opposite sex, peer pressure-so many issues to grapple with. But yes, they were also the best years of my life.

Tell us about your first date...
Total disaster! I was just 14 when I went out with this terrific girl who was very popular in school. Everybody wanted to go out with her. So finally, when she agreed to go out with me, I was on cloud nine. I went out on my cycle-I wanted to impress her. Then to get entry to her club, I had to fake my identity! Well, she agreed to go out with me again, so I guess it wasn't that bad, but it could have been better.

Are you a flirt?
I think so. But I am a harmless flirt, I don't like leading people on. I would never play with people's feelings. I would flirt just to make them feel good and make myself feel good.

Were you a good student?
I was very average. But somehow in my last, crucial, year I did quite well-80 percent!-something I had not done for the last ten years of my life. In Mumbai, it is very important to score good marks in class X to get into a good college and I knew that. So I worked real hard then, though in the past I had even failed some subjects.

Your most hated subjects?
I was uncomfortable with Marathi, especially the grammar. I was very happy when I could drop it and opt for French in class VII.

What music do you like?
It just has to sound good to me. It could be pop or rock. These days I like to listen to a lot of Hindi music, especially of the 60s and R D Burman.

What is acting all about?
I think acting is not just about going out there and speaking your lines... it is an internalised process. Acting is an extension of your personality and sharing it with people. It is a process of your trying to shed your inhibitions gradually, layer by layer, and discovering, for yourself and others, what you can offer to the character you are portraying. It may be easy for some people but for me it is a very thought consuming and difficult process. Though my theatre background does help.

What about modelling?
I have done some modelling but not too seriously. But after Grasim Mr India I have done some print ads as well as ramp shows.

Are you superstitious?
It depends on how much is at stake. Sometimes I am very superstitious and sometimes I have this I-don't-care attitude. I don't like to rely on good luck formulae or charms. But I don't like to take risks, so for the Mr International contest I always used to wear my good luck charm! Actually it leads to paranoia most of the time, so I'd like to get rid of superstitious beliefs.

What kind of a son are you?
I think I have made my parents proud of me. I like to believe they have a good son, though sometimes I feel I am self-absorbed and I don't give as much attention to my parents as I should or show them my true feelings.

Are you fashion conscious?
I am conscious of what I wear and how I look. But no, I am not into labels or wearing expensive designer stuff. I like to be casual in my day-to-day wardrobe as long as I can carry it off. I like wearing suits and now that I have a great collection, I think I will be seen in my suits more often!

Are you a religious person?
Not very, though I believe God is always on my side irrespective of whether I win or lose. I think he is always giving me a little push especially when things are going badly. I believe in God as a force which you can tap with your own spiritual force. I feel God is always with me, for me.

Are you conscious of your appearance?
My profession demands that I stay in good shape. I personally don't want to be out of shape. Actually, the contest, plus the realization that I wanted to model and act in films, was a motivating force. Now I have a gym at home which gives me flexibility to work out as my schedule has become very hectic, with lots of travelling.

Are you fond of eating?
I love good food and I love to eat but I have to keep my fat intake low. It gets difficult at times-staying in hotels with buffets all the time!

Do you believe in one-night stands?
If I'm not committed, why not? Sex can be a beautiful experience between two consenting people as long as they understand the responsibilities and precautions involved. But if I were committed to someone I wouldn't do it, since that would make it wrong.

What are your future plans?
I want to pursue a career in films. Be successful in my business. I'm working with a few charities now, so I'm trying to balance my time, get my act together.

Do you have a sense of humour?
I'm easily amused, but I can't make people laugh. That is one quality I admire in people who are uninhibited with others and with themselves.

How passionate are you?
I would say I am very committed to my work and my relationships.

Your advice to upcoming models?
I feel I'm not in a position to give advice. But yeah, people going to pageants must be completely honest with their work and face up to their faults, to rectify them.

To what do you attribute your success?
I'd say to the contribution of a lot of people around me and the way circumstances have moulded me. My parents, my friends, the people I interact with. Also, that God gifted me with a certain clarity of thought. In pageants, my approach and how people perceived me that day. The single most important factor at pageants is to believe in yourself-combined with a whole lot of luck. Like getting questions you can answer. I don't believe I could have answered every question. I just got lucky and I think it is about being the best man that day.

How important are beauty pageants?
They are important for a person to realize his ambitions and personal goals. Also, people now look up to them as they are definitely defining both inner and outer beauty. Given the disillusionment they face with politicians and sportspersons, people see at beauty contest winners as role models. Like Aishwarya has decided to donate her eyes and Yukta Mookhey her organs... so it's going to be a better world.

Describe yourself.
Confused, complicated but somehow still competent.

The girls take centerstage again in tonight's episode. The brief interlude of bonding and sharing seems to take a backseat as the nails and knives come out again.
The usually reticent Carol Gracias shows that she can lose her cool too, as she snaps at Anupama Verma. Later, though, she apologises for being unnecessarily rude.
Sensitive Anupama tries to get it out of her system by complaining to Rahul Roy, saying she thinks Carol has insecurities. Rahul, in turn, makes it clear that he is not interested in involving himself in any politics in the house. Deliberately distancing himself from the issue, he asks Anupama to keep him out of her problems with others.
He does, however, ask her to stay steadfast to her values through the tribulations of the game. Art of diplomacy, Rahul?
Kashmeera Shah is back to her vicious ways as she tries to instigate Ragini against Rakhi. Accusing Rakhi of trying desperately to make her way into the boys' camp, she also makes the same complaint to Anupama Verma. Now, now, Kashmeera, we thought the pressure of living with the others was supposed to make you nicer, not bitchier.
Tijori has a new script for idea-starved Bollywood. He plans to make a film on the experience of Bigg Boss. But we think reality is spicier.

The drama is on in full swing at the Big Boss house. Amit Sadh had started avoiding Rakhi Sawant ever since he came to know about Rakhi's feelings for him. Amit even refused to eat the food cooked by her. Obviously, the idea is to keep her at bay as he is already engaged to Neeru Bajwa. But yesterday Amit found himself in a fix when he realised that Rakhi, who claims to be in love with him, was unwell. To make up for his aloofness he apparently took Rakhi's breakfast to her room. "Amit was very supportive of her as she was really unwell. He gave her medicines and looked after her," said a source. So, what's brewing between them? Is it love or mere concern? We will soon find out.

Rakhi gets 'dard ki dawa' from Amit
Amit raised a lot of eyebrows when he got medicines for an unwell Rakhi - quite a twist in the tale after Rakhi told Bigg Boss yesterday, "Amit should be happy, ki meri jaisi ladki ne use bhav diya."

Roopali was thrown out of the girls room when the girls were gossiping and they refused to share the topic with her. Rahul Roy's favourite contestant Carol is, meanwhile, the only girl allowed by the guys to hang around in their room.Rakhi amused everybody by mimicking Rahul, Roopali and Kashmeera. In Taapu, Sultan and Ghulam, the weekly game, Rakhi, Roopali, Ravi and Aryan became the Sultan today.
