u hav raised a very interesting question that a lazy history buff like me couldnt help joining in the discussion.yes, u said correctly about the gauna tradition. as far as evil customs in rajput traditions like child marriage, sati and others are concerned they came to live after witnessing the horrors of tortures the foreign invaders like turks, pathans, afgans and the mughals inflicted upon them...when the average life span of a person started shrinking lower because of their mindless slaughters, when raping and looting women became a weapon to gain submissions.so the culture of getting a daughter married at the tender age of 3 , 5, 7 started and hence gauna ceremony became necessary. during rana pratap's time women of rujput royalty were not married that early that a gauna ceremony had to be . Royal household women were educated, taught to sing,to draw and paint, cook, recite poetry and play veena, sew and embroider, play chess and ofcouse rige a horse and wield a sword ! they were groomed to be an ideal life partner of a rajpoot maharana...and these trainings took time obviously ! usually girls were married at the age of 14,15 or 16. A sodhashi ( 16 yrs old maiden) was coveted to all. rajpoot men also got married at the same agebcoz by then they hav established themselves as a brave warrior ready for the world .
so, if thew show gauna for praja that would be ridiculous...even history says kunwar amar singh was born after one yr of the marriage. it was pretty common in those days all around the world to hav a child at the age of 16/17 .
