I second the point you mentioned that if phool knew about Ajab's feelings she would have Backed down. I am sure when she will come to know about Ajab and MP's love for each other she will back down without any hard feelings.
Ajab, being an absolute sweetheart, backed down because she respected Phool's love and she herself doesn't have any trust on her destiny. MM is making it even worst, some father he is. I know even if she had the confidence to accept that she loved pratap and she deserves him, she would have sacrifice for Phool. That's how she works.
But like Chakrapani said once she has to fight with herself to get what she wants and only one person can help her that is Pratap. Though, Pratap respects her and all, we all know he loves her but he himself needs to realize it and I think this change of events will make him realize his love for Ajab and he will make Ajab accept her feelings too.
