I think Maaya's immersion of her Ganesha idol, her revered Bhagwaanji, is very symbolic.

It signifies her transition from being a sociopath to a psychopath (as Husna n a few others always said, Maaya didn't have proper features of MPD) ...Another. member, iMini, pointed it out non my other thread, n suddenly I realised that actually, the CVs of Beyhadh have done their homework of Maya's mental illness very very well...It was not MPD, though many features appeared to be similar. Maaya was a sociopath hitherto, n at times, transitioned into a psychopath temporarily.

Please refer to the link below for medical differences between a sociopath n a psychopath...I've put forth the highlights from the link below (in red)

Sociopath vs. Psychopath: What's the Difference?

You may have heard people call someone else a "psychopath" or a "sociopath." But what do those words really mean?

You won't find the definitions in mental health's official handbook, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Doctors don't officially diagnose people as psychopaths or sociopaths. They use a different term instead: antisocial personality disorder.

Most experts believe psychopaths and sociopaths share a similar set of traits. People like this have a poor inner sense of right and wrong. They also can't seem to understand or share another person's feelings. But there are some differences, too.

Do They Have a Conscience?

A key difference between a psychopath and a sociopath is whether he has a conscience, the little voice inside that lets us know when we're doing something wrong...

A psychopath doesn't have a conscience.
If he lies to you so he can steal your money, he won't feel any moral qualms, though he may pretend to. He may observe others and then act the way they do so he's not "found out,"

A sociopath typically has a conscience, but it's weak.

He may know that taking your money is wrong, and he might feel some guilt or remorse, but that won't stop his behavior.

Both lack empathy, the ability to stand in someone else's shoes and understand how they feel. But a psychopath has less regard for others, Someone with this personality type sees others as objects he can use for his own benefit.

They're Not Always Violent

Both use manipulation and reckless behavior to get what they want.

At worst, they're cold, calculating killers.. Others, he says, are skilled at climbing their way up the corporate ladder, even if they have to hurt someone to get there.

The differences can even change basic body functions. For example, when most people see blood or violence in a movie, their hearts beat faster, their breathing quickens, and their palms get sweaty.

A psychopath has the opposite reaction. He gets calmer. Quality helps psychopaths be fearless and engage in risky behavior.
They don't fear the consequences of their actions.

Hitherto, Maaya always manipulated situations n people, to have her way. But, yet, at least she felt the need to partly justify her misdeeds to God, with her dialogues, "...Main aur Kya Karti, Bhagwaanji?..." Also, she only turned to God in her moments of grief...In short, her Bhagwaanji was her voice of conscience...Her very weak conscience...

Now, she possesses Arjun- Her obsession which she believes is her love, n her key to that elusive happiness which she has always yearned for...

Now, she thinks she has completely bound Arjun to herself, as she has distanced him from not just his loved ones, but also from the almighty, God.

Hence, now, Maaya thinks she doesn't need to do any more wrong deeds, n hence she doesn't need to justify anything to God anymore...

.She thinks she is going to be supremely happy henceforth, with absolutely no moments of grief in her life...

So she doesn't need her conscience or her Bhagwaanji anymore, n hence the immersion of her Ganesha...Her transition from a sociopath (weak conscience) to a psychopath (no conscience)....I believe the psychopath Maaya is very very dangerous now...It's going to be an uphill task for Saanjh to save her duffer from a very ill Maaya...

Just like a puppy ONLY turns to his master for food, for shelter, for affection, n is most happy with a LEASH around his neck...
Here, it's Arjun who will ONLY turn to Maaya for food, for shelter, for affection, with the LEASH being NOT around his neck, but a round Maaya's pretty finger in the form of a ring, which Maaya was playing with in the latest promo...Frustration was bound to set in...

Hello Khushi!!!
Your post is properly analysed and well written.

There is a thin line between psychopaths and sociopaths.Sociopaths mostly don't interact with the society or mingle with them. They feel uncomfortable among people.
But as you said they do have a conscience which pricks them from time to time.

Psychopaths on the other hand are cold, ruthless and remorseless. They know the difference between right and wrong.
Yet they will do what suits their ideology.

Maya was successful in isolating Arjun completely. Now she is the one who will dictate his life and have complete power overy him.
But when she let go of Ganesha, she closed the one last door which she had.In the darkest hours of Maya's life when she had no one,it was God whom she relied upon and shared her sorrows with. Now when she has achieved her object of desire she feels that there is no need of God anymore.Because now she will get the chance to play 'God' for Arjun the person with whom she is obsessed.
And also she will not pay any heed to what's right and what's wrong.

Khushi, your MPD based analysis/theory was a brilliant one, I was majorly in agreement with it but then I couldn't bring myself to believe in it a 100% because like iMini said in your other thread, one crucial symptom of MPD is the patient suffering from it must have some episodes at least where they don't remember what they said or what they did or who they're are. In Maya's case, she remembers everything, from the minutest detail to the biggest of events. In addition, she shows less to no signs of guilt, remorse, confusion or conflict. I dont know if you had seen it but even starsdf had made a great topic covering this theory of sociopath and psychopaths.

Now, if they're going the sociopath-psychopath route, then they have to be twice as cautious to not mess it up as they would have to in case of MPD. If they take this route, I'd like the root cause of it to still be some serious kind of mental illness combined with psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies. Because that's the only way Maya's character has some scope of redemption. Otherwise, she'd appear as a complete negative character. Which way they choose, they better not glorify or justify Maya's toxic love. In doing so, they'd defy their own theme of hadh se zyada kuch bhi acha nahi hota, pyaar bhi nahi. All I expect is her case to make complete sense. Don't want any ambiguities surrounding her mental illness and the infamously famous Maya ka sach.

I'm in for the following two kind of endings with regards to Maya's character.

Ending #1 : Arjun's in grave danger posing a threat to his life (either put in this situation by Maya herself or someone else). But just when Arjun's time is nearing, Maya's light in her strikes her like a lightening bolt and she does go out in one grand way, saving Arjun's life and dying instead in his place. That'd for me act as going out doing the best you could even though you couldn't be the best version of yourself all your life. This would ofcourse make me shed buckets of tears in sadness though but I'll still be content that Maya's finally has what she always yearned and searched for; peace. The 7th vachan comes back into play here that she'd die for him than let him die thereby fulfilling Saanjh's positive intervention.

Ending #2 : Arjun's in a life-death situation put into by Maya herself. She's all set to watch Arjun die infront of her own eyes but Saanjh comes to her and Arjun's and Maya's rescue. She urges, explains and provides the strength to Maya to just look deep in herself to awaken that lightness in her which is buried deep down in her somewhere as her darkness has consumed her completely. Maya realises and this time yields the power of light and saves Arjun's life. She lets him off the hook and repeats her soliloquy from the first promo hadh se zyada kuch bhi acha nahi hota, pyaar bhi nahi thereby letting Arjun free. She goes on to receive medical help and attention. Her treatment causes her issues to get healed, she moves on to mend her relationships with Jhanvi, Arjun, Saanjh and their respective families. She goes on to take Fashion in the City to even greater heights and lives life to the fullest. If at all her character is meant to have a romantic interest, the last could probably show a good man with a good heart developing feelings for Maya and thus ending the show on a positive note. Here too, she achieves the peace that she deserves.

Ending #1 gives out a realistic message that not all cases and people are curable and not cases bring upon positive results. Ending #2 gives out a message that there's always a way out, there's always a ray of hope and there's always a chance of happy endings.

If she turns out to be Ashwin and Pandit's killer and responsible for Jhanvi and Vikram's state, I doubt if the Indian law gives death penalty if the person was mentally unwell. In such a case, she might first be sent off to a mental care facility and be treated and then be bought to serve whatever punishment the law deems fit for her case. Personally, I hope she recovers and is not sentenced to life imprisonment or death. Couple of years in serving her punishment, if at all. And then that can lead to the last few lines of the ending #2.

As for the ships and who ends up with whom, you know I least I'm bothered about it. At the moment though, I don't see a possible happy ending for ArYa and SaJun shouldn't happen without a proper build up and storytelling.

PS Haven't proof read this, will edit if there are any typos or errors.

Hi Ayesha...😃

Yes, now this psychopath Maaya is going to be really really dangerous, when the suffocated Arjun will try to release himself from her MAAYAjaal. As long as he'll remain her puppy chup chaap se, she'll be in her la-la land... But all hell is gonna break loose soon...

I guess Season 2 is gonna be Arjun releasing from MAAYAjaal, & season 3 should be about Maaya's open war...

Husna, beautiful post...
As per the symbolisms so far, I expect ending #1, though I personally would love to see ending #2...

But I still feel that Maaya, when she reaches a stage of furious fury, like she had when she was 9, she is L handed then...Else why did Saanjh once say the the murderer was L handed??...Maybe she sort of "wills" herself to go into such a state, or something like that...

I think the show is gonna be exciting from here onwards, with lots of flashbacks...😃
