I have watched some shows on other channels that started off as unique, but due to the pressure of the channel was forced to incorporate the typical saas-bahu drama. The only reason I continued watching those shows was for the amazing pairings and the original plot that promised something different. I still haven't been able to understand where channels and CVs find the need to change a perfectly good story by incorporating overdramatic scenes, unrealistic characterizations and unbelievable plots in the name of suspense/thrill/trps. Some really great shows have been ruined because of this pressure and in the process some family-oriented shows are spun into something unwatchable and headache inducing.
At the same time I feel this idea of "saas-bahu" generalizes many shows and leads so many shows that have unique concepts to be misjudged. For example, other than Maya's character, that of a strong and multifaceted female lead, Maya's parents and Saanjh's character, everything else in the show is similar to many shows I have seen in the past- the overdramatic quotient and the ways they sometimes try to butcher saanjh's character by showing her as more of a saint in-comparison to maya. And how can I forget vandana's distaste for Maya. I stopped watching the show, but come here to get updates. I am just glad this is a finite series (I think all indian shows should have caps of 1 yearr, any longer and the chances of it being ruined is much higher). thankfully Beyhadh hasn't butchered Maya as much, and from what I have read Saanjh's character is doing much better. Jennifer-Aneri rock as always 😳 Their talent is truly the backbone of this show.
