From a person suffering from depression

Today's episode was very emotional for me. As a person who has always been struck with extreme anxiety and stress. The people thought I was going through depression. Jhanvi was extremely right about people being extremely judgemental about mental sickness. But they don't understand the grave situation a person with a mental sickness goes through! It's like dying everyday inside yourself. Nobody even gets a hint of it. An inner conflict which never ends. Yes this is my reality as a person. But I've always dreamed of falling in love with a man who will understand. Why did saanjh try to hold depression against maya to separate her from arjun. Even if maya had depression why is she unworthy of love? Everyone is worthy of falling in love. Every person suffering from depression has the right to be happy. The fact that maya is taking medications just means that she wants to get rid of her depression. How can anyone hold that against her? I lost all my respect for saanjh today.

thank you for sharing your story with us, I know it can't be easy especially when it feels like the world won't understand. I hope you are doing well and everything works out for you.

For maya, depression is only part of the problem, there is something more serious about her that goes beyond depression but still is a mental problem. No matter what the real truth is, Janvi was right. any kind of mental sickness is called pagalpan then the individual is isolated by everyone. Not saying what maya is doing is right, but what is needed, is for her to accept her problem and then seek help, because she desperately needs it.
Saanjh never considered Maya because to her, she was the girl with "the dimagi problem" who was out to ruin her arjun. When arjun is involved she sees no one else, her main goal was to save him. the way she was telling him about maya then questioning her, was downright insensitive. when she realized that maya is mentally sick, she should have been a little more sensitive..

Thank you so much :). I am doing good! Depression made me a fighter. And i am hoping to win this war of mine someday... soon. Inshallah :)

True. To be honest maya might be disturbed but she seems like a person who is extremely smart in handling her life and people around her. Till now she hasn't really harmed anyone but herself. Her mother is blinded by her dad's fake love. Maya is basically saving jhanvis ass at every stage possible. She loves arjun and knows how to manipulate him well but she does really love arjun and thinks about his well being. This whole secret of her past is interesting but I don't see why saanjh is trying to bring that up against maya.

Yeah saanjh should have dealt with this situation with alot of maturity cause it involves a person who might be under depression.

I appreciate your courage for sharing your experience & happy for you that you have got over it. The CV's are misleading the people further saying that mental illness is a pagalpan. It really spreads negativity to the society and those who are mentally ill will prefer to suffer rather than going to the psychiatrist or the psychologists. If they don't get patients, whatever they have studied will go waste.

Thanks for this post. I have lost all respect and any bit of sympathy and likeness for Saanjh's character seeing the recent episodes. I can't believe she was being so insensitive, uneducated moron, and so judgemental. Is she really so called a white character? Right now, she seems like same as Ashwin for me. I can't believe she was making such a big deal of depression as if it wasn't a depression but a disease about murdering people or something. That's how she was acting. Regardless of what Maya's real truth could be or if Saanjh found Maya can also harm others, but even before any of that Saanjh was already insensitive, educated moron, and extremely judgemental.

Is it the writers or do majority of people in India really think depression to be some sort of crime? Because I honestly don't get the recent episodes seeing how the writers made depression as It is like some sort of murder or something really bad which you have to disclose to your spouse😕. In the US, we talk about it opnely and it's not something of a big deal. May be the older generation or some have problem. But so far from my experience, I haven't come across such an idiot like Saanjh. Going to psychiatrist or taking pills for depression or anxiety is not a big deal here as it was made out in the show... I have close people with such problems, and they are not mad. Neither was I when I was going through extremely low point once. It was the worst time of my life which I wouldnt even wish on my enemy. Many when they go through depression and feel like there's no way, they try to kill themselves or think that's the only way. Doesn't mean they are criminals, mad, or doesn't deserve happiness. Eventually many also go out of it. God, Saanjh's character has fallen so low and pathetic. Now I won't feel bad for anything bad happening to her. Seeing her this insensitive and judgmental, may be if she goes through real problems in life and get depression or any other sort of problem, may be then she will realize. She has always lived a happy and secure life under her parents' wings. So now she go out and judge others. That's the main reason she never understood Arjun's pain and could never connect to him the way Maya could. She thinks she's know it all, people should just listen to her, and could care less what other person may have gone through and why they are they way they are.

I hope you feel better. If anything, it makes one extremely strong as you have said. :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I stopped watching the show because of the way they were handling mental illness- the way it was being villainized, romanticized and a way of inducing thrill and suspense seemed very offensive. Most of all the actors or makers of the show failed to address it outside of the show too, instead they only promoted the show as the characters having different shades, the story having twists and turns, and it getting more suspenseful- for mental illness to be used as a tool to do this was very disheartening for me. My aunt has being living with severe depression and bipolar disorder and so for the family to actually sit down and watch this was not an option. I started watching it hoping to see strong female leads, but to have that at the expense of its portrayal of mental illness was not something I wanted to continue supporting. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you so much:)

Exactly! People who suffer from it don't say it just because they fear that the world won't understand. And in a world where people like saanjh exsist who want to 'save' their friend from a women who takes anti depressant pills is plain disgusting. I hope arjun stands up for this cause atleast.

Each point you said deserves further introspection for each one of us. Thank you for bringing that up. Saanjh has literally been guarded from any kind of tragedy. For her tragedy is not getting arjuns love. Are you f**king kidding me. In this world where people breath through living hell. She is living in flowers. If maya had a family like saanjh does she wouldn't have been through extreme situations. If maya had a friend like arjun through her childhood she wouldn't have been lonely.

The portrayal of a depressed person as a murderer and sadist on the loose was disgusting. I am so let down by the Cvs.

Exactly! The doctors were like maya is suffering from depression she can kill herself or anyone around her. Are you kidding me? No educated doctor would ever say that.

Thank you :) yes I really hope they show maya coping up with her depression instead of showing her as a criminal in further tracks. And treat depression as a sad condition instead of a dangerous one.

Thank you for sharing such personal details of your life with us and thinking of us as worthy enough!
I hate the Saanjh thought ki depression na ho gaya koi eighth wonder Ho gaya... depression and stress are the most common things in the world but she acted as tho Maya had some crazy mental illness. Having depression does not make you unworthy of getting or giving love. It's a phase that comes into everyone's life one day. I like it how jhanvi said every person with a mental problem is considered crazy in India, when they're not even crazy!!! It's a temporary problem that can be fixed with time... and I hope from the bottom Of my heart that you will find the man of you dreams and live happily ever after.. may you get all the happiness and love you deserve, and may your man give u endless love :)

Thank you :) I hope and pray your aunt copes with depression really soon. Because anyone who even get a jhalak of depression would only pray that no one ever suffers from it.

The CV's have disappointed me alot. Their portrayal is plain disgusting and would just reflect badly on us Indians as a society. How can support a person who suffers from it but rather throws stones on them to make them feel worst. No wonder some people choose committing suicide instead of getting treatment for it. The world is very judgemental.
