I just recently started to watch Beintehaa and was wondering if it was common for cousins to marry?

I think it is allowed in certain Muslim families.
Moreover, this is very common in South Indian families.
(Atleast in South Indian homes). Over here, Zain is Osmaan's son & Aaliya is Shabana's daughter. Osmaan & Shabana are blood siblings, so this makes Zain & Aaliya first cousins.
The same way, even in some of the South Indian homes, the cousins,
should be of two siblings who're both of the opposite sexes. Shabana is a female here & Osmaan a male. If both siblings are of the same sex, the cousins are not eligible to marry. That could be harmful for the kids, born to them.
Thus, as long as the siblings are of the opposite sexes, their kids, are more than eligible to marry them. Even in Beintehaa, the siblings are of the opposite sex, thus Zain & Aaliya were always eligible to become partners for life. But it's a personal choice at the end of the day, if the two kids wanna marry each other or not, or if the two families wanna tie them in a knot.
Most of the times, the kids by the time they grow up, find someone else & get married to them, or the parents, get a marriage proposal for their child from another family too. So if the siblings are of the opposite sexes & the cousins are of the same age or the guy a bit older, they are definitely atleast eligible to marry. But then again, like I said, it's a personal choice, if they wanna marry or not.
I've seen a few cases infront of my own eyes. Most of the cases, that end up marrying the cousins, could be cases of childhood sweethearts. Like having the guy or girl around you, all the time since kids. Watching them grow up with you, bonding with them. The girl knows all of the guys friends & the guy knows, all of her friends. The ease in their relationship. They could be very similar to Zain & Aaliya.. various versions of Tom & Jerry. To pick on one another, pull each other's legs..take each other for granted. And if any problem arises, their families are all the time around, to set those two right. lol
In other cases, if the girl or the guy, is in trouble..& doesn't get marriage proposals from elsewhere, or if their alliance with someone, ends up broken & there could be social stigma associated with it, there, families decide, to get the cousins married. Like over here, Aaliya was in trouble when her wedding was called off with Zeeshan, due to certain things, Zain did innocently. So when Aaliya & her family, faced the social embarrassment (you could catch this epi..it was Jan 17th epi, on youtube), Osmaan stepped up & asked for Aaliya's hand, for his son. And that's how these two got married.
And that's their story. They always knew each other. Never got along & end up marrying each other, only during troubled times. They are poles apart & how they get along, help each other everytime, one falls in trouble & eventually end up falling head over heels for each other.
