Part Twenty-Three

The night before the wedding, Divya stayed at Amar's house. Amar was dragged to the haveli with Ankiet and Bharat. The week before Rajeev revealed to Amar the story of his birth. Both sets of parents were upset. Mahua was upset that she didn't know her real son for twenty-two years. However they realized Rajeev's intentions were good and they l decided that Amar and Divya would return to Beneras on routine trips. Chintu was elated to know that he wouldn't lose his brother. He pledged he would come to Delhi when he was older to study medicine.

Well Amar couldn't sleep in the haveli. Memories haunted him. Some he recalled and some still felt vague. He looked out from the balcony. He smiled looking at the starry sky. He heard a stone tapping at the edge of the balcony. He looked down to see Divya.

He smiled and shook his head.

"What are you doing here?" he called out.

She had her hands on her hips.

"Finally you heard me! I can't sleep. You are supposed under my balcony, as Romeo. I am supposed be Juliet, jaan," she stated with glee.

He snuck downstairs. She embraced him when he was beside her.

She pulled back and said," Dekho kitni alag hai humari pyar ki kahani,"

They went for a walk with their hands linked. Amar sat her down beside the Ganga ghat, where they always seemed to meet in their first two janams.

She looked at him curiously as he stared out into the water.

He turned to face her, feeling her intense glare. He held her hands and looked into her eyes.

" I want to promise you something tonight, hours from our wedding. This time I will not waver from my wedding vows. If we have something to fight against, I will not give up until the end. Last time I gave up too easily, you wanted to keep fighting against Sindoora Singh, but I gave up. Divya, tonight I promise I will always support you and never abandon you along this path we are about to start on," he stated.

She placed her hands on his shoulders.

" Amar I too will always stay by your side, and I really do love you."

Amar walked her back to the house and he went back to the haveli. Bharat was awake.

" Hello Amar, where were you?," he asked.

Amar was startled as he entered the haveli.

" Just on a walk," he quipped.

Bharat smiled slightly.

" No worries, I told Dad to go back to sleep. He is snoring peacefully. Just be careful going upstairs."

Amar gave him a grateful glance before going back to his room.
