Yeah, Baa calls a spade a spade and DM is pigeheaded indeed. Lets hope to see some transformation. I sometimes feel that these shows are what they are because the writers are male. Only the male perspective is presented I guess.

Well, each of us have our own reasons for watching the show. I would be pretty tired if I only see the story focus on Sanraj or for that matter any other couple all the time. The more, the merrier and definitely more the diversity. I wouldn't agree that the show is popular because of Santu's endless crying or DM's dhands. The show has a strong script which is why it is popular. I am not asking them to change the characters drastically but is it asking for too much for DM to apologise atleast after Santu presented her view point? Afterall, he has done so in the past. The only difference then was that he knew what he was meting out to Santu, still went ahead and did it and later apologised for it. Here he turned a blind eye to her pain and only saw his view point till she opened her mouth against the injustice. He now understands he is wrong but did he even show a semblance of remorse after that? No, he did not.
Characters in any show (atleast the main leads) are supposed to develop into improvements over what they were to start with. If they dont, they are pretty much stunted. Improvement comes with time and circumstances. Here was a golden opportunity for DM to give up a little of his ego and be man enough to admit he was unfair to his wife. Does he take that opportunity. No, he does not. So just as DM metes out his punishments for the supposed wrongs of others, I, as a viewer would not make peace with him until he makes up big time later.

I don't think DM thought he had done anything wrong until Santo told him her view point. According to him, his wife had hidden something from him she shouldn't have(and I agree with him here, don't want to get into it, it's been discussed to death in a few other threads) and he punished her for it just as he punished his sister for the same reason. After she presented her viewpoint, he said he realized her intention behind hiding it from him was good but he never said she was right in hiding it from him. Thats why I don't think he thinks he did anything wrong in punishing her but that he made the mistake of not realizing her intention behind it was good and thats why he retracted the punishment. I don't think he is going to ask forgiveness for something he doesn't think he did wrong. Like you said he has asked for forgiveness in the past when he though he did something wrong. By that same virtue he should be retracting Moti's punishment as well but he won't because he believes it is for Moti's own good.

As for growth in characters, of course all the characters have grown and changed since the show started, if they hadn't the show would have been stagnating and cancelled long before now.

I was not talking of a disparity between urban and rural with regards to social evils here. I was talking about myths that are prevalent, the stereotype that surrounds them, and suggesting that each of these evils manifests in a different way in a rural setting. Not much change there as far as emancipation is concerned.
The same evils manifest in different ways in the urban setting is what can be interesting. The nomenclature of the evils remain the same but the impact they have on the dynamics of relationships is based on the variables that exist within the different settings, and this is what is to be understood. No very palatable.
And in a larger setting, many situations have a way of panning out given time and proximity. This is what i am hoping for DM and Santu.

DM was too overwhelmed by his anger at both Moti, and both the wives that the hurt got better of his judgement. He misunderstood Santu's intentions even though she did try to explain it to him before (the picnic SR). He punished Santu on the basis that she committed a mistake but he did not have the maturity to look beyond the mistake. He momentarily lost sight of the forest for the trees.
And i disagree that the characters have not grown with the circumstances. We saw positive changes in Hiten, Kadambari and to a large extent in DM himself especially after the Gow hatya dhand. Granted there were many slip ups, but which relationship is perfect. Then we are asking for Utopia. Relationships grow and mature with time and proximity, acceptance and deep mutual respect, all not easily obtained.

I hope so too.....I think their relationship is still very new......he has very recently even accepted her as his wife.....with time and proximity and more understanding between them, we should see these differences between them disappearing....the good thing is that both have genuine feelings for each other

A reality check Fuzz. We sometimes live in quaint times and believe that the world has progressed far beyond what it appears. What needs to be understood is that the world spans both ends of a spectrum, and it takes all kinds.

By the way shows go on long after the rot has set in. I saw KYM go down the drain but still it went on for months till it started really stinking like a cesspool.
I hope they dont do anything as foolish in this show for whatever grievance I have with DM, I still like the show because of the wholesome entertainment it has given so far. I want it to continue remaining the family drama it started out to be with as much story packed into it .
