So finally we have a full circle of sorts in Kyunki again on this issue.
It was raised in S1 back when Tulsi was against Karan and believed he was following in the footsteps of his mother, trying to lure her DIL Nandini in an EMA wrecking the marriage of her son Ansh. Mihir at the time had once said that Tulsi is differentiating between the two because Karan is not her son. History repeated itself yesterday when Mihir, now played by Amar, (whose casting makes so much sense now in light of an old clip that I am sharing at the bottom).
Karan goes onto prove Tulsi wrong. The rude awakening of course comes at the cost of Nandini’s lifelong trauma and Tulsi almost getting slapped in a hotel lobby by the son she fought for as we all remember.
The prior incident when Karan’s morals were lauded were when the Viranis had exposed Mandira’s history in front of him, revealing evidence of her faking a pregnancy prior to Karan’s very conception to trap Mihir. A very heartbroken Karan then is about to leave India and his acceptance of the truth and eventually his righteousness is attributed to Mihir’s Virani blood influencing his actions. Not Karan’s own moral compass as a human being, a person who is finally getting the complete picture and hence is made aware of the truth that the woman he was groomed and gaslighted into believing was a victim, was not in reality a victim at all.
The act of inviting Karan into Shanti Niketan had merely made Tulsi acknowledge him as a Virani, a son of the family whom she tried to do right by; but it was the hotel lobby in Switzerland that finally led to Tulsi accepting Karan as a child of her own heart and welcoming him in it so utterly completely that she never looked back. That day as mother and son wept together on a bench their tears sealed their hearts and bond in a way that they would erase all lines of biology and history.
Ever since the revelation of his paternity, identity and family were two things that Karan spoke about often, hammering in on how he was denied both because Mihir never acknowledged his existence. Tulsi’s acknowledgment gave him both in one go and for that he was indebted to her to the extent that he sacrificed his second chance at love for her without a second thought. Eventually Tulsi would go onto find Karan as the son she could rely on to take a bullet for her if need be and stand by her whenever the occasion arises.
The entire reason to recite this history we all know is because we have seen it play out and today understand why Karan and Tulsi are so close. No one can even question that if it comes down to picking a parent in any case - Karan would pick Tulsi in a heartbeat.
And the reason to show this journey was important because it establishes their bond unquestionably.
When Mihir accused Tulsi of differentiating between the kids; no wonder her response included Karan; a subtle reminder to Mihir that he has crossed a line, as she names Shobha, Karan, Angad, Hrithik and Pari in the same breath.
What baffles me, as I have raised this question repeatedly in other posts is, why Pari is so important to Mihir. Why is he so obsessed with her? We don’t know and we don’t understand. Mihir was never shown half as crazy about any of his own kids, including Shobha, his only daughter; the child with whom his obsession would have made even more sense. After all, Mihir missed Gautam’s birth, he was then bamboozled by his own brother and SIL who kidnapped Gautam; until Harsh came along, Shobha was the only child he could have and love. The fact that she was his daughter could have only added to the utter devotion and madness of his love for her as fathers usually are more expressive and affectionate with daughters than sons. But NOOOO, it’s Pari with whom this arrogant manchild is obsessed. And we don’t even understand why. Because even biologically speaking, Tulsi is the one sharing blood with the devil here as well as her 2 brothers not Mihir. Had Mihir Tulsi been raising a kid of any of his many cousins, it would have perhaps made more sense for Mihir’s obsession to be so infuriating. A dead cousin could be as close to one as a sibling especially if they are raised in a joint family together; so yes, had Pari been the child of Hemant, Suhasi, Chirag, Prajakta, Tarun, Sejal or any other random cousin we had never heard about as well, Mihir’s attitude might have made a bit of sense.
So be it nature or nurture, on both counts, Tulsi has the advantage here and yet, yet, Mihir has to accuse her of being a mother who differentiates between children; while also acknowledging he had little to no role in their upbringing as he was off to work while Tulsi did all the work.
So, my question to the writers is, why is it that they’re butchering a once beloved character, Mihir, at the altar of this devious and ungrateful child called Pari, without so much as an explanation for his obsessions? At least it wouldn’t be so annoying to watch him make a fool out of himself if we could understand his actions and the reasons behind the same. The fact that he includes Noyna’s approval for Pari’s match is as it is ridiculous and makes no sense, not only because she’s not family but because she literally has no role whatsoever in any discussions about fixing marriages of any of the Virani children, including Pari. She’s Mihir’s college friend and business partner; not a relative with any links to any of those kids and so far from what we understand, not even a mother to a child of her own. Mihir’s faith in her endorsement of something in a business dealing and contract negotiations makes sense given her position, credentials, experience and role in this particular case; but what does that have anything to do with Mihir’s daughter getting married? Would Noyna have any interest whatsoever in establishing the authenticity of Ranvijay or any other person interested in Pari and care about her future and well being with the same due diligence as Tulsi would? Noyna would have more of a stake in ensuring she doesn’t suffer financially from a bad decision made by Mihir or any of his family members and do more work to investigate anything she might find fishy and potentially damaging to the business than she would for a girl she has barely met… the fact that Mihir once again validates her delusions that he relies more on her than Tulsi are being flamed for no reason whatsoever other than to keep the drama going in a scenario that makes no sense in the first place.
