We are two weeks into this gripping saga about a diamond merchant and three young sisters living with their Nanaji in a village called Dharampur. There is somehow going to be a situation created where the Malik of Dharampur, will get married to Santo, one of the sisters. So far into this series there is alot to appreciate, for example, like the cast, the performances of the whole cast, the writing of the characters, the dialogue, the setting, the music, and especially the one and only Mr. Ronit Roy. Because when one watches Dharamraj one forgets this is Mr. Roy playing the role of a character called Dharamraj, He really is Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi, Dharampur ka Malik.

Ekta and her team have managed to arouse curiosity with this surprisingly "unEkta" serial. For once, this is not her usual formulaic repetitious flawed fragments of "nostoryline fashion shows" of multiple marriages, remarriages and multitudinous marriages, of zoom- zoom, whoosh-whoosh camera movements and of "special effects" garishly made up vamps and more.

In the coming weeks we will witness the 'forced' marriage of DRM and a young girl named Santo. Besides, being two absolutely different characters in age, background, and upbringing, there obviously is a generation gap as well. It's a not a simple but a complex situation simultaneously from both perspectives-young Santo's and the Older man, Dharamraj. Also, for Dharamraj, this will be his second marriage and for young Santo, her first.

As Ekta and her team very sensibly have managed to present this saga of simple characters in a simple way, so far, ...if they continue to travel on this simple road with Dharamraj and his new bride, then this can turn out to be a fairly unique tv viewing treat for the audience, and could end up breaking some records and possibly setting new ones.
Just, EK seedhi, saadi Vaat...Change is Good.

(By the way, Ekta and her team, with "Bandini" should be commended for doing absolute wonders in promoting the state of Gujarat and its culture with the choice of a rural setting, the use of the language, and the selection of music playing in the background. After viewing the marvelous "mela" episode, one cannot help but feel nostalgic for this homeland of our ancestors, parents and get an immediate desire to book a ticket to Gujarat.)

Enjoy the Show because so far "Bandini" is a little treasure.

I totally agree with you Bavie ben! 👍🏼
Of course, as every episode repeatedly re-establishes, the casting for this show is superb... Ronit Sir as the maalik of Dharampur is definitely the pick of the lot!
The writing team for Bandini is definitely the best that Balaji Telefilms has had for many years... the story is moving at blinding speed (for a daily show), and nothing so far has seemed badly out of place.
And yes, the technicians, directors and producers really have done a wonderful thing by not giving this show the "usual" treatment... quality wise, Bandini is definitely a cut above any other Balaji show of recent times 👏 The story telling is brilliant.

Because of all of the above, I'm just looking forward to watching the story unfold - I think it's great to watch!

God bless.

Agreed Bavie that simplicity is the name of the game right now and we are all hoping the stay the course. At the moment Bandini really is a treasure to watch.

You have pointed to the age difference and the class difference of DM and Santo. Along with that there is going to be a not so pleasant third angle or difference between the two which is going to be the CASTE difference. When DM goes to the temple his 'contempt' for the chhoti jaati was written very clearly on his face. Now he is married to one of them and all of a sudden the equation changes. I am pretty sure Ekta and her team will address that issue - it just cannot go away. And it is a sensitive issue too.

Thus far, in the family department, the focus has been totally on Santu's side. We do not know what family DM has - whether there is going to be a mother around. We do know he has kids but we do not know what kind of a relation he has with them. How will his family accept Santo? How will the village folk take this as one of their own will now be their maalkin. DM will have to make a public display that the marraige is 'normal'.

If they handle it well it will be an interesting journey on how these two overcome the class, age and caste divide.

I absolutely forgot about the caste difference, thanks for pointing that one out. That is going to be major issue, besides all the other major issues. I hope the writers are considering all this instead of trying to introduce a third party, we have a third party already, the photographer. If the writes continue to focus on these two characters situation in their lives, and try to develop that angle more, similar to how they have so far showed us the sisters relationship and their interaction with each other in their daily life, if they continue with that pattern in DM/Santo's life than there will be somthing to watch. Maybe Ekta and her team might surprise us and this time around she will deal with the issues instead of introducing them and then having amnesia about them, this time maybe actually try to deal with them. DRM's prejudices with the chotti jaati will really depend on what type of situation is created that he is forced in this alliance with Santo. Will he deal with his contempt right there and then or take his prejudices with him later on. Is he fully aware of what he is doing? oR will Greed (he wants his business order filled before dawn) blind him to do something he is not fully aware of doing?

You are both right Hema and Bavie ..

So far the simplicity that EK and her team have incorporated into this show has been remarkable and she deserves a pat on the back for such a good try and for churning out something so simple yet so powerful..

Well the real litmus test for EK and her team is how she handles the characters of DM and Santo and how she forges a relationship between them slowly but surely ..

I think we are missing one more difference here- the economic conditions in which they are currently living - their expectations out of life .. they are just so different. While Santo is sacrificing, as evident from the fact that she was ready to give her money to Mongi and ending up buying nothing at the mela because they didnt have any money left .. to the circumstances of her agreeing to marry Rajesh.. determined to forget the sweet bond that she has made with Shashank..

DM on the other hand is an opportunist, the only word that comes close to sacrifice in his dictionary is loss . He clearly steers away from it !

It's going to be VERY interesting here on ..

Seedhi vaat- it rocks!

"EK seedhi, saadi Vaat...Change is Good"

I think Ekta has learnt from Mahabarat...one has to be careful how to apply change.

Aneway I agree the soap does make you want to book a ticket to Gujarat...but unfortunately those designer village sets are very rare to find these days. Those small villages are now turning to into towns and crammed by people and housing. But even here you can get little glimpses of the people. Like my last visit, there was a new house at the end of the street where kaka lived and in that house a large extended family who were from Kach part lived and so you saw the men in those pagadis and dhotis and the women in the colourful bandini saris and the cows tied up in front yard.

Funny thing...the vahus in the house did not know how to do the edges of gighra and seemed surprised an NRI knew how to make guhgras...best time to go...go few days before Diwali and see the mad rush of sari shopping and fireworks and rangoli men and women do at night.

Seems like Ekta K has taken Obama's policy, and gone for 'change' (albiet the change she employed in mahabharath was horrifying), which as a matter of fact is extremely refreshing... Though Ekta is good at discovering new faces, with Aasiya Kazi she's done a very good job.. She seems to be perfect for Santo, a girl who is thrust into a marriage with a man twice her age.. These things do happen, often even.. Hopefully she keeps it as realistic as possible.. Because for the first time, she's attempting to portray a marriage between people, who have no secret intentions of revenge, without being blackmailed into it, who are not in love with other people (living of course).. How an unwanted bond becomes an unbreakable one.. Its not just the actors, but the story as well, somehow, a story about the bond of marriage just fascinates me.. I hope she lives up to the past two weeks and doesnt make a mess of things...

Sukhi, it really is..Thats why i started watching this show in the first place..Which was why i started watching KZK regularly, after the RB-P marriage.. Those days it was even more fascinating, coz i was still in school then, a dreamy teen..Now, its more about the depth of the realtionship, the way it develops, blossoms if you will...Such stories really bring out the inner romantic in you...
