and i am hoping against hope that they avoid words like, 'ghar ki izzat' , 'parivaar ki izzat' , 'ab shaadi kesi hogi' and all those bullshit that soaps often show. And in this case, I seriously hope they don't start blaming Saanchi for her rape. It will be sick if they go that way. Its known that Shekhars are a bunch of clowns but atleast in this case, they should be shown sensible and be a rock of support for their wronged child. They should just fight for her justice in this case!

@dsupriya @theepe, thank you: finally someone said that rape is not to be treated as a stigma, certainly not as a lifetime burden.
Parents have a responsibility to the teach the girl that she played no part in her own rape and she must deal with it without feeling any sense of shame. And while the criminal ought to be tried and punished , she should move on to a better life, putting the past behind her.
In fact, post the December 16, 2012 gangrape of a paramedic in Delhi, a whole new awakening has started among victims, who incidentally are being advised not see themselves as victims
. A new term, rape-survivor has come into usage and more and more girls are coming out to register complaints without feeling guilt or fearing a loss of reputation.
Delhi has seen a flurry of poster competitions and seminars on rape, the point of all of which has been to say that rape ought to destroy the perpetrator not the victim. The coming out of rape from the closet has helped create awareness about how to deal with the crime and destigmatised it.
Over the past two years, so many women in Delhi have come out in the open and identified themselves as rape victims, and told the story of what happened to them and how they overcame the ordeal to lead full, happy lives today.
Rape happened to a child whose family I knew very well. The initial reaction of the girl was that she had lost her izzat. Her parents counselled her beautifully and she was back in school one week after the incident. At the same time, the parents ensured that the rapist was convicted. Rape trials are held in camera and the girl's evidence is given the highest weightage. So I hope BV does not make this into an open trial full of sensational drama.
Finally I hope the doctor counsels Saanchi and her family to give her the 'morning-after' pill to prevent pregnancy. This pill is meant to be used post coitus and prevents pregnancy. I do not know why TV soaps which adapt to technology and other innovations so eagerly, have never once highlighted that rape pregnancy is preventable.
But I suppose if this happened, there will be no drama, no wailing single mother etc.

And I hope that Anandi does not resort to "Aurat is devi ma" kind of shrill bullshite while trying to get justice. Keep it life-like and treat it with the sensitiveness it deserves.

This Date Rape Drug is very dangerous. As per pills record, it erases memory and makes the consumer infertile for life.
So Sanchi would have lost all memories of the night and only medical test can prove that she was raped.
This is sheer stupidity of CV's to show Sanchi being raped. Yes, she is bad and evil but this is not the fate she deserved. They should have showed some sensibility and nick of the time save of Sanchi from this. I'm seriously pissed off

Agree with your point here, that many gullible girls are subjected to such heinous crimes and such an act needs to be condemned.

But in this case, particular to Sanchi, had she been little level headed and mature, she would have tried and avoided Saurabh, especially after the advances he made at her own home.
In spite of not being comfortable with his advances, she still blindly went ahead , based on HER perception of him, which is obviously foolish. She neither cared for Anandi's advise, nor Payal's words.
She started to drink at the party, and obviously, that would make her lose her bearings and sense as to what can happen with her.
How can we not condemn her actions here ?
She had a chance to recognise the danger, yet she overlooked that chance, because of her own ego and mind set.
In this case, she got this upon herself, mostly due to her own actions.

Uma, I agree that Sanchi should be held accountable for HER actions -> for having bad judgement regarding Saurabh, for disregarding others advice and for getting drunk at the party and not exercising common sense.

But I disagree that she she should be condemned for HIS actions -> he was the one who drugged her drink and potentially raped her.

The consequence of getting drunk is passing out/throwing up/having a hangover...not being raped.

👏

Thank you for sharing. A similar incident happened with a distant relative of mine and she went on to live a happy fulfilled life. But her and her family had to face a lot of whispers etc from their community at the start. They did it with their head held high and without apology. In the end, her community ended up rallying around the family after seeing them be so strong and supportive.

@bold If shows don't even discuss contraception options for married couples then I highly doubt they would discuss it for rape survivors.

The man will be dealt with severely, he will be crushed under the mighty feet of our Jhansi ki Rani and ferocious Raja.
As i said i have all sympathies for her but a timely control on her obdurate behaviour combined with her adherence to Anandi's advice could have prevented her from getting plundered of her modesty.
Rape is a most gruesome and reprehensible crime . The rapists is solely responsible for the henious act.

Payal,
I never said, she should be condemned for HIS actions.
She needs utmost understanding, lots of TLC and support from her family now.
BV 's sending out the relevant message, can never be complete, unless, they show Sanchi getting to rise above this situation, and live her life with her head held high, along with Saurabh getting the strictest punishment from the hands of justice.

@bold Concur!

I was just responding to something you mentioned here:

It made me see a little bit of red. Not you! Just the words. I read it as her being responsible for what happened to her, that is, she put herself in a situation to be raped. I've read similar comments in other arenas and they were usually followed by arguments I vehemently disagreed with. Was just having a knee-jerk reaction 😳

I know that's not what you meant to say/post but that's just what I ended up reading. I'm glad you clarified 😊

They can show Ira/CM explaining to Sanchi about her foolishness, but nobody should blame her for the rape. So far, nobody told her what she should do and what not to do, what are her mistakes etc. Even now if the elders in family take control of her life, it will be better. But serial people like drama, tears and heroism - so somewhere they will resort to drama just like what happened in Mangalore - there J solved the crime in a day - here may be Anandi will solve the crime.
