Sumitra must have forgotten how her daughter became Mrs.Shyam. Sugna was also pregnant with her dead husband's child. And Shyam took enormous risks to give a new life to sugna instead of letting her become another asha. Shyam incurred the wrath of traditionalists, his father, his tau and also sugna's ex inlaws. At that time the cow sumitra did not think that Shyam's life has become risky and so her daughter should remain a mourning widow confined to a dark room eating satvik food etc.
And ganga is not even considered by Jagya as his would be. He is just her well wisher. Ganga could have become an ayah or even a beggar begging alms with a cute child. But she chose to live with the singhs with dadisa's blessings. She became de facto member of the family because of her loyalty and sincerity. She may have feelings for Jagya but it is not such a big crime.
What got my goat was Sumitra's behaviour with mannu. She is not a true mother but a selfish mother. She thinks of the safety of her grownup son but not such an adorable toddler. As long as my Jagya is safe, let others go to hell seems to be her new attitude.
As for as ganga becoming self sufficient and independent, it is easy to say such things but in practical life it is not that easy. A young and attractive girl with no family umbrella is an easy prey even if she is independent and working. Everyday the newspapers have so many incidents reported. So if ganga choses the umbrella of singhs, what is wrong with it? Ganga must also be waiting for the right time to take some decisions like leaving the singhs.
