For years now, Bollywood fans have been waiting to hit the road with Jee Le Zaraa, the ambitious road-trip drama Farhan Akhtar announced back in 2021. The film had immediately made waves because of its powerhouse trio, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif. On paper, it felt like a dream team, and the announcement itself created a buzz like no other. But as months turned into years, whispers of delays, scheduling clashes, and eventually rumors of the film being shelved began doing the rounds.
Now, Farhan Akhtar has set the record straight. In a recent chat with YouTube channel Our Stupid Reactions, the filmmaker made it clear that Jee Le Zaraa is still very much alive. 'I would hate to say that it's shelved. What I will say is that it has been put on the back burner. It is a film that will happen. Again, I don't know when it will be. But it's too delicious a script and there's so much work that has already been done on it,' he revealed.
This wasn’t just an idea that never took off, Farhan shared that extensive prep has already gone into the project. 'I have finished all location scouts, recorded music for the film. So it's just a matter of time that we come back and do it again. I can't comment on the cast anymore, like what that will be and when that will land. But will the film happen? Ya, it will,' he added, hinting that the original lineup of Priyanka, Alia, and Katrina may no longer be set in stone.
Back in 2024, Alia Bhatt had also spoken about the challenges of mounting this film. 'Logistically, kaafi difficult ho raha tha to get all the dates together but I think agar sabke zehan mein hai aur intent mein hain toh woh film ban jayegi,' she told Lallantop, echoing the hope that timing, not intent, was the only obstacle.
Farhan had announced Jee Le Zaraa on the 20th anniversary of his iconic debut Dil Chahta Hai, making it even more special as it was meant to mark his return to direction after years. While he has since moved on to announce Don 3 with Ranveer Singh, fans still have faith that this road-trip film will find its way back on track.
For now, Jee Le Zaraa remains a promise, a film waiting for the right time, and maybe even the right cast, to finally come alive.
Farhan Akhtar has clarified that Jee Le Zaraa, announced in 2021 with Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif, is not shelved but on the back burner. The filmmaker revealed he has completed location scouts and music but hinted the cast may change. Initially planned as his directorial comeback, the ambitious road film still remains a passion project awaiting the right timing.
