Chapter 8

Arjun was in the conference room like the others, going over and over the facts when he heard a scream. Heard her scream. Instantly he was on his feet, they dragged him towards her, his mind repeating only one thing : She will be okay. His heart, already dying. In the distance between the room and the locker room, Arjun felt he's already been dead multiple times over, waking up each time only to die the next moment, the face of someone he loved in front of him.

The team witnessed the madness in Arjun as they still processed what was going on. They dashed behind their boss, all of them worried to the core, some more than the others.

As Arjun neared the locker room, he could hear her screams and sobs and dashed in. Nothing could've prepared him for what he saw.

A nervous Riya, writhing in agony, backed up against the wall, hands covering her ears and tears streaming down her cheeks.

A hundred Blue orbs the size of a golf ball were jumping about in the room. The sight would've sparked joy to someone who didn't know what a tiny blue ball could do.

"WOWW. This is so beaut....." The crime journo's sentence was cut short by the way Arjun ran past her.

Arjun had reached over to her in a giffy, pulling her in his arms, his brain unable to comprehend anything other than the fact he needed to get her out of here. Away from the wretched thing that almost took her away from him.

Riya couldn't stand up, let alone walk away, her legs just turned to stone. Sensing this, Arjun pulls her up, wraps his arm around her waist and pushed past everyone and out of the door. He just wanted her to be safe, everything and everyone else be damned.

As a worried Arjun dragged a hysteric Riya away, the second in command took control. Yash pushed everyone away, forbidding everyone to even get near it. The look on Arjun's face told him enough to know something was wrong.

Trouble in a paradise that didn't begin to exist.

Arjun was afraid.

He was never afraid.

Not when he is so used to risking his life for others.

Not when he was face to face with the very man who killed her so called wife.

Today he is.

The sight in front of him tore his insides apart, it was as if someone had repeatedly stabbed him right in his heart and yet the somehow left him alive to bear the weight of wounds.

A trembling Riya sat in front of him, tears streaming down her cheeks, here eyes staring in the distance, fear clouding her eyes.

This was not the Riya he fell in love with.

Pushing away all negative thoughts from his mind, Arjun held her face in his hands and wiped the tears away, only for some fresh ones to fall.

"Hey... Shhhhh. Its okayyy. Its okay. I'm here. You're here. You're okay"

She flings her arms around him and breaks down "I.... I don't want....... I don't want to go through it again.... Please. Please..."

Arjun's heart breaks for her. He couldnever imagine what she would have gone though. With this being the first case, who knows whatever kind of medication they had to try, whatever procedures they had to employ, the pain she had to endure. He recalls how she slipped into coma only to recover after 3 years. And even after that, it took one year for her life to adjust to the new normal.

He let her sob in silence, all the while rubbing her back and caressing her hair. "Look at me, Riya.... Look at me" he said, slowly pulling her away from him. "Look at me"

Sniffing and trembling, Riya lifts her gaze and looks at him. "Kuch nahi hoga tumhe. Trust me Riya, kuch nahi hoga. I won't let anything hurt you. I swear. Trust me please."

Once again, she crashed into his chest and this time he hugged her with such a ferocity as if hiding her away from everything and everyone.

He needed her.

And ACP Arjun is someone who always gets what he needs.

" Are you absolutely sure they're nothing to be afraid of?" Arjun asked for the millionth.

Sighing, Liza answered for the millionth time "Yes sir. They're just rubber balls. I've cross checked them. And there's nothing on them too.". It obviously takes everything to convince the boss.

Following the chaos that had occurred, Riya had fell asleep on Arjun's shoulder . The latter tucked her in on the sofa in his room. Positive that she wouldn't wake up, he left the room a good thirty minutes later. The stress had gotten to her.

The wheels churned in his mind, yet he was unable to understand anything. How did anyone manage to get past security and install that package of a hundred tiny orbs in Riya's locker? Who had the keys to her locker other than Riya herself? Whoever that must've been definitely knew what effect they might have on Riya. The question is who? Who was so bold enough to sneak into the ETF HQ and do something that triggered their team member right under their noses?

Arjun's chain of thoughts was broken by the techie's voice. "Sir I've checked the CCTV footage. Last three days ki. Riya ke locker ke pass koi nahi gaya. Last time she was near her locker it was a week ago. Possible hai cameras loop pe the.

"Strange," voiced out Yash. "Riya toh Sirf apne dawaiyaan store karti thi na wahan. Last week jab woh apne locker Mein medicines rakhrahi thi, I was there. And wahan kuch Khaas nahi tha. The same three bottles of medicines I saw aaj."

"Sir. Sab theek toh hai na? I mean Riya abhi wapis aayi hai" Shree asked, his voice shaking. "Kitna dar gayi hai woh"

Arjun was taken aback. A few days ago the techie had refused to even acknowledge Riya's presence in the room when Liza was around. Today, he ignored his girlfriend's presence and went ahead. Maybe it was the distance between them that had made his heart ache.

"I don't know and I can't say .But from the looks of it ,this seems serious .Because I am definitely not going to file such a serious thing under jokes or prank.Look at the audacity of whoever did this ,somehow they got into the office and made their way to her locker . And whoever that is,they best be prepared for what's about to it them "

"Was the plan executed ?"

"Yes sir. But sir , hum toh chup chap uss ladki ko uthasakte haina ? Aise poore ETF ko alert karne ka kya faayeda? "

"Arre unhe bhi jaan ne do. Jitna woh aaj ke attack ke baare mein sonchenge,agli chaal bhaanp ne mein waqt lagega . Rahi baat faayde ki, Arjun aur ETF ke khilaaf ye jeet hi sab se bada faayeda hoga mere liye" he chuckles,baring his yellow teeth . "Un rubber ki balls se woh itna dar jayenge ,they'll never estimate whats going to strike them"

"Anything else Sir?"

"Kill the doctor"
