Chapter 12

Arjun sits on the stairs while karan paces the floor wearing it out.

Arj: karan, walking will not provide any answers.

Kar: then what to do shera? We can't just sit and do nothing. You should have seen anjali's face. she truly believes riya is innocent. But how can we prove her innocence when all the evidence is against her?

Arj: no crime is perfect karan. And riya is framed. Her frame up will only tell us who is doing this.

Kar: I just hope shera it is not too late when this happens.

Arj: it won't.

Karan to see stark determination in arjun's face. Such determination he had only seen once when he went behind those who had almost had his team killed. But this determination indicated something deeper something which karan could'nt pinpoint but he knew it is there. His thoughts broke with simran rushing into the garage screaming from both of them. her hysteria made her almost incorrigible. Karan made her sit as arjun got a glass of water.

Kar: simran, calm down take deep breaths.

Simran started taking deep breaths as karan held her hands. she said "anjali is kidnapped."

"WHAT?" both of them said. At that instant the phone rang. Simran looks both of them fearfully. Karan is going to pick it up but arjun shakes his head and picks it up. He said "hello."

Voice: hello, arjun

Arjun hands clenched into fists almost crushing the phone. Simran and karan felt a trickle of fear travel down the spine seeing the stark anger on his face, anger which revealed the monster released.

Arj: sakshi.

Sak: wow, arjun you recognized my voice immediately after all these months. I am happy. But after all you are the best. How could you have forgotten my voice?

Arj: why did you call sakshi?

Sak: yaar, arjun at least give me a chance to reacquaint with you. but anyway coming to the point, I called you to talk about your sweet friend anjali.

Simran had to put an arm out to stop karan from pouncing on the phone.

Arj: anjali. Where is she sakshi?

Sak: oh she is here. right with me. and don't worry she is fine. After all she is your friend. I would'nt let any harm come to her.

Arj: let me speak to her.

Sak: tch, tch arjun so sad you won't believe your friend or should I say your to be lover?

Arjun broke the glass he was holding, the pieces splitting into his fingers yet feeling no pain.

Sak: but anyway here speak to anjali.

And the next second a sweet voice greeted arjun hearing which all of them expelled their breaths.

Anj: mr arjun.

Arj: anjali, are you okay?

Anj: I am fine mr arjun. They are taking good care of me.

Before arjun could say anything else, sakshi's voice came back. She said "sorry arjun. Orders from above. You can talk to anjali only this much."

Arj: what do you want sakshi?

Sak: oh I don't want anything. But a friend of mine wants a favour to be done. And no one can do this better than you.

Arj: what do you want?

Sak: oh nothing much. Just want you to break riya kashyap from jail.

All of them thought "what?"

Sameer looked up from the file he was reading as a knock sounded on the door. Closing the file, he opened the door he never expected to see. Aisha. Aisha stood in front of him, her hair in a ponytail, her face having a hesitant expression. sameer swallowed the lump in his throat still unused to the sensation of relief that always hit him seeing aisha in front of him. he removed his glasses and said "aisha. You here? come on in?". aisha stepped hesitantly into the room, a fact not gone unnoticed by sameer.

Sam: how are you aisha?

Ais: I am fine rathore sir.

He chuckled and said "aisha, you can stop calling me rathore sir. it has been 8 months since I have left the police."

Aisha looks at sameer and sees a calm expression on his face. but instead of this expression conveying calmness, it conveyed a mask, a mask which do not cover his eyes. his eyes still conveyed a shrewdness, a cunningness which did'nt seem to exist before. Aisha felt that she knew the man who is in front of her yet he is now an enigma to her also. shaking herself from her thoughts she said "rathore sir, I have a few questions for you."

Sam: about what?

Ais: about riya.

Sameer looks at her with surprise yet aisha could see a knowing in his eyes.

Ais: how do you know riya?

Sam: I don't

Silent aisha with arms folded wanted sameer to smile but he controls his emotions.

Sam: riya had recently won custody of anjali. Anjali's mom was abhay khanna's only granddaughter. And abhay khanna is my client. He told me to keep an eye on riya and see whether anjali is been taken proper care of. Anjali is the heir to a trust fund which becomes hers the moment she turns into 18 yrs and abhay wanted to make sure that her care is in good hands.

Ais: you are working as a private detective?

Sam: security consultant. Abhay is a good client for us so that's why I am doing a favour for him. but why are you asking such questions aisha? Any problem?

Aisha remains silent and simply said "please don't leave town. We might have more questions for you."

Aisha turns to go when sameer said "sometimes aisha, its best to let go and let time heal all of your wounds."

Ais: even wounds can be so deep that time cannot heal them. good day mr rathore.

Aisha closed the door behind her and the next instant sameer's phone rang. He picked up and said "shyam, I told you not to call me. I will call you."

Shy: arjun took the bait. He is going to free riya.

Sam: good. The plan is going smoothly. Now cut the phone.

After the phone cut, he thought "sorry arjun but I had no other way."

Aisha walked towards her car lost in her thoughts. Her gut instinct told her that there is more to the story than what sameer told but her heart is saying to believe. 8 months before she would have listened to her heart but now she did'nt know who to listen. Her thoughts snapped when a boy hit her. she caught him before he could fall. He muttered a sorry and ran leaving her looking at him. she climbs into the car and removes the note the boy had given her. opening it her eyes widen reading it. she immediately called chotu and said "chotu we have a situation."
