Chapter 4 - I did take a loonnggggg break from posting on this story, mainly because I had no inspiration and the show was taking the wrong route. BUT I'M BACKKKKKKK!!!

Everyone had settled into their rooms and Rani has been brought back home by the family on Veer’s insistence to treat her medically from home, as he will be able to keep an eye on her and also tend to her when needed and in all honestly 24/7. He had become a dotting, protective and caring husband over the past couple of months. He had grown used to Rani’s constant bicker. She was that constant in his life that he didn’t know he needed, but when he got it, he knew that he didn’t want that feeling gone.

Seeing Rani in this condition was breaking Veer and testing his patience. It has been 15 days since they bought Rani back. She was showing subtle signs of improvements, but she was still in coma. The visuals still haunt him, from when Veer saw Rani on that highway, to when she was dragged away on a stretcher with an oxygen pump on her, to when she was laying the bed, breathless, looking like she was done with life. He couldn’t shake those images off his mind.

Veer: Rani, get up, please, I made a lot of mistakes in my life. Maybe this is my punishment. For not believing you, for not listening to you when you told me about Ranisa, for not dropping you off to college that day, for being selfish.

(Thinking) What have I done? How could I be so stupid? This was so stupid of me! How could I let Rani take such a big risk and let Rani handle the whole situation on her?

[FLASHBACK]

Rani: Veer you have to believe me! Ranisa is not who you think she is. She is plotting against you and me. I have known this for such a long time, but it’s time you know this too...Veer…

Veer: RANI!!! (shouting) Just because I listen to you does not give you the right to say whatever you want about Ranisa. You know how much importance she holds in my life! She is my mother! She may not see me as her son, but she is my mother. Be careful with the next couple of words you choose…

Rani: She is not your mother, she is Ranisa. This is a game. She has turned your life into a game of chess…

Veer: RANI SHUT UP!!! You have done a big favour for me by taking that slap from Ranisa, now stop your drama and leave me alone! Get ready, I need to drop you off to college…

Rani: No leave it be, I can handle my own journey to college. I don’t need you to drop me off.

Veer: FINE! Go! Don’t call me if anything happens!

Rani stormed off, in tears, which did not go unnoticed by Veer, but his ego held him to his place and watched her go.

[END OF FLASHBACK]

Veer sighs as he finished changing the bandages on Rani. Did her hair, exactly how she likes it – into a loose braid and got the female nurse to change her clothing into a comfortable salwar suit. He went by the window and sat down. His days were getting longer, and his nights were getting darker.

Vikram walked into his brother’s room and watched him in agony. He knew that in the past couple of months, Rani had become very important to his brother. She was the only one who could bring a true smile on his smile. He looked down at the tray of food that he brought for his brother and walked to him, with a smile.

Vikram: Bro, look!! I made your fav!! Exactly how bhabisa makes it!! Pav-bhaji and no extra butter, which personally speaking, is weird, how do you not like butter?? Like…

Veer: Vikram, please take the tray away, I don’t want to eat. I’m not hungry. Please go…

Vikram: Bro, if you don’t eat, like you haven’t been in the past couple of days, then you will lose all the meat in you and then bhabisa will wake up and see her husband has turned into her sautan (2nd wife).

Vikram points at the skeleton and laughs. This also makes Veer laugh a little.

Veer: This girl still gets scared seeing that kankal at night time, despite the fact that it has been here for this long and she has lived here with me for so long…

Vikram: Bro!! exactly!! Now is not the time to forget to eat!! You need to eat!! Stay strong, find out about Bhabisa’s accident and also continue to look handsome so that my bhabisa doesn’t get scared of you too.

Vikram manages to make Veer eat and they converse about their childhood and how Rani’s arrival like a tornado has changed both their lives for the better. Vikram left the room as he had court hearing in the morning and had to look through some files before bed time.

Veer was looking through some case files of his own and when Vikesh, his friend who is also a private investigator calls him.

Vikesh: Bhai, listen, I looked into what you asked me to find…the car is registered Ranisa…your guess was right. But there is more, I couldn’t get my hand on all of it yet, but so far, I know that there is also someone helping her. Someone executing all of her plans and so far, it looks like Rani bhabi is her main target. There have been multiple attacks on her, but each time, they failed.

Veer: Send me anything you have. And continue to dig until you get to the bottom of this. I need to find out the whole truth.

Vikesh: Also…there is something you should see….i sent it to you on your email.

Veer: what is it?? just tell me through the call?

Vikesh: no bhai, you need to see this. It's important. This could have something to do with bhabi's accident. And also you need to see this.

Veer: okay, if you say so, thanks man.

Veer cuts the line and opens up his email and opens the documents. Skims through each one of them, they are conversations between Ranisa and an unknown, money transaction screen shots and more. He comes across a special file. Wondering what that is, he opened the file and it felt like his world collapsed.

It was an image. Veer as a baby and Kumud holding him. And a man. On his birthday.

Veer: (thinking) why am I here? Why does Kumud have me? Who is this man? What?...what is going on?? Is this what Rani have been trying to tell me for so long??

Veer looks at a comatose Rani and cries. He has a wife in coma, a mother that does not consider him her son, a family picture which doesn’t make sense to him.

His life has taken a turn for the negative. Deep in his thoughts, he failed to hear Ranisa, knocking on his door and walking in.

Ranisa: Veer?

Veer is shocked to see her in his room.

Woahhhhhh!!!!! So many revelations in one chapter and ranisa coming in his room? It surely is some miracle as she never appears there but people of her choice appear to her.
