Gauahar Khan opens up on rumours of 12 year age gap with husband Zaid Darbar: 'Pehle ek bar..'

Gauahar Khan recently reflected on a phase in her personal life that unfolded in the public eye long before she or her husband Zaid Darbar made anything official. Speaking on Debina Bonnerjee’s podcast, she recalled how the media began speculating about their relationship and her age gap witth Zaid without any confirmation from their side. According to her, this unsolicited attention was not only premature but also based on inaccurate assumptions.

“It was just the media," she said during the conversation. “Media loves to rush to conclusions. Nothing had even gone public from our side, and the first headline was, ‘Married to someone 12 years younger.’ 12 years? Where did that even come from? Pehle ek baar pooch toh lo hum se."

While the rumoured age gap was never an issue between them, the fact that it was reported without verification was something that stayed with her. “There’s no issue with the number. In our industry, many couples have an age difference, and that’s perfectly fine. But the issue was — just ask first. Ask, and we’ll tell you."

Following the media reports, the couple made a conscious choice to stay silent. Gauahar explained that they never addressed the speculation publicly because it held no relevance to their bond. “After that headline, we never gave any statement. Whether it’s 2 years or 12, it doesn’t matter. Jab Zaid aur mujhe farak nahi padta toh kya hi farak padta hai duniya kya bole."

She also shared that both families were supportive from the very beginning. The decision to share their marriage plans with loved ones came naturally, without any external pressure or drama. “From the beginning, we decided we’ll inform everyone when we’re getting married, take everyone’s blessings—but we won’t entertain anyone’s opinions. Not from my side, not from Zaid’s."

Describing the process as clear and grounded, Gauahar said, “Zaid introduced me to his family, I introduced him to mine. We simply said—this is the person we’re marrying, and here’s the date. Come if you want to bless us."
