Yeah... I get what you guys are saying. But gender roles and expectations no matter the culture are always skewed heavily in favor of makes. I mean what parallel terms are there for "cougar" "karen" etc etc. From all the surveys I ve seen in the US (GSS, various PEW surveys) women still bear a disproportionate burden of HH responsibilities, caregiving, childrearing etc. So yeah while the inequities shown in Anupama might seem unimaginable, the fact is they r just different. And they r different in India largely because women are still by and large not financially independent. Do you guys know that only 20% of India's eligible females actually work in the formal economy (ILO figures).
While the show portrays extreme situations (coz u know it's a daily soap, ITV, yada yada) taking things to absurd levels, IRL this happens and in the most ,"educated" of HHs". Males are brought up w the Raja beta syndrome and while their toxicity is harmful for them as well, women still bear the brunt of stepping on eggshells around those egos. The MCPs r entitled to anger, aggression, power (w/o accountability) in HH matters.
Are things changing? Of course they are but believe u me guys, it is very very very slow. This kinda change takes generations. And w the Hindutva wave sweeping the country, patriarchy is on the rise. Marriage is very often the FULL STOP of growth, happiness, peace for women. For guys it's the same old same old, pehle maa pamper karti thi, ab wife se expectations hote hain.
F$#@ing society. God is a man for sure!!!
Pessimistic but what can u do? It's the fu$#ing reality for many of us. I for one do not intend to marry in any succeeding janam, coz kuch yaad rahe na rahe punarjanams mein, boss YEH wala lesson toh saare time portals phaad ke khud aa jaayega.
I believe there are two sides to the discussion. First, for sure the gender parity doesn't differentiate, its worldwide across rich and poor. Male are entitled, Raja beta is all true; i would say one is in living denial if they think otherwise.
However, other side, which makers conveniently forgot is how ill-treated a women is, if she dare stays with in-laws after divorce. They question, how come she might not be sharing her bed with X, she has done all these years, so why not. Society would have literally s**t shamed Anu after divorce when she stayed in Shah house.
Financial independence is not matter of concern for Anu, she has her DA for that. Also most of us were still able to relate to her for a very long time. Like her subservience for 25 years, i totally understand, never questioned. But she was shown to brake those shackles first with divorce and then leaving after character assassination. So, once you crossed that one-way door it should close forever. When, she accepted her feelings to Anuj that was another one-way door given she is shown as true character who was in it completely.
Problem comes now, when suddenly, she is shown as willingly going back in pinjara and handling the keys of happiness to wrong people. This Anu, no one can relate to, no matter how hard one tries. "Dhoodh ka jaala chaach bhi phook ke pita hai" Anu should have been shown as twice careful to not get trapped again. But, her delusions, Baa bhagwan, Achcha pita continues. And to top it all, her rude behaviour to people who are nice to her as Anuj, Devika goes against her character arc. The writers have done lousy work with no consistency, one moment she is most progressive calling him Vanraj, next moment she is regressive, delusional cheering the hone wala Dada. During actual DV she said mere saath aisa nahi hua and then in FB she calls him abuser and then all done, her bhashan is biggest punishment and can cure any evil.
Unfortunately, as i see Anupama is not giving any right message to society so far. In fact, its shown promoting all wrong traits via Anupama.
