We are never tired of MaAn moments. 😊
Loved it!
Must have read this with a wide smile, from one side of my face to the other.
It’s not a date, it’s not a date, hell it’s a date! Made me chuckle so much! You can just feel the love! We all rooting for Anuj! Loving all the little moments and the flashbacks to their college days.
I am sure Anuj will fulfill one of Anu’s wishes on the journey back home…, but which one will it be? Rain dance or prank?
I for one will be waiting for the rain dance… I have so much running through my head!! Songs, dancing a step forward in their declaration. Eye locks have got to lead to another type of lock….lip lock?!
Wow. You should write it out, all thats in your end. Let us parched souls gain access to your creative mind 😄
Lovely as always👏. The details of their college days and the internal thoughts of Anuj are adorable
Thank you ☺

Part 5
Tere dukh ab mere, mere sukh ab tere...
Tere yeh do naina chand aur suraj mere...
O mere jeevan saathi,
Tere mere sapne ab ek rang hai...
'Anuj', Anu called him another time.
Every time she took his name in her sweet voice, it was music to his ears.
His chain of thoughts had been interrupted by her.
'Huh?'
'Chalein?', she asked curiously looking at his amused expressions.
'Yes please, he stood up reaching for his wallet but was stopped by her.
'My treat, Remember?', she said cheerfully and went ahead of him to pay the bill while he followed her in awe.

Just when they had started, it began to pour. The clouds rumbled all along and rains lashed without mercy. Their journey back home was proving to be difficult than expected. Anuj kept the speed slow, his eyes on the road and avoided all calls for the next hour.
He drove with utmost concentration only glancing at Anu once in a while who appeared pretty much normal despite the anxious situation. Anxious because the rains had delayed their return home. It was already dark and getting home late after dark would only bring more problem for Anu, he thought.
Anu noticed he was unusually quiet. She studied his face and worry lines had marred his beautiful face, beautiful face?
She coloured up instantly and looked away. She wondered since when did she start noticing Anuj this way? Why was his worried face troubling her? She loved his smile. Especially the one she registered while leaving the restaurant today, it was angelic. It brought peace to her when his smile reached his eyes. She didn't like him serious and zoned out. She liked him better when he was interacting, especially with her, his eyes never leaving hers. The thought was again a new revelation to her. Since when did his mood start affecting her? Slowly she raised her eyes again and quickly scanned his hold on the steering wheel to his face. He looked restless. His knuckles white from holding onto the wheel tightly.
'Anuj', she touched his finger lightly and suddenly she felt his hold relax on the wheel and so did his creased brows. His expression softened when their eyes met, she'd drawn his attention for good.
'Kya baat hai?', she asked softly. It surprised her how sometimes she didn't feel hesitant with him around. She had been debating if she wanted to break the prevailing silence but soon realised, she indeed did not like a "glum" looking Anuj.
'you look worried?', she said further.
'Wo Anupamaa, its already 8:30', he said looking at his watch, '...and we will take another hour at least to reach home.
Getting home late will only give more reasons for your family to be upset', he said tentatively.
Anu's heart filled with a feeling unknown to her. What she felt for him was beyond admiration. She'd been cared for before, as a child, as a mother, as a friend but this was different. No one put her worries above theirs, not even her own blood. She smiled briefly and said, 'if you are talking about my family, then bapuji and kids are aware I am with you for work and have in fact been advised to come slowly and not in haste.'
He nodded in agreement. 'Of course, roads are very damaged so have to be safe but don't worry about that.'
'I am not worried at all. Neither about the other non-family members nor this journey ahead in the dark. In fact, I've felt safest with you Anuj, even emotionally', she said instantly.
The darkness, rains and sharing a confined space with the man she trusts the most all were definitely adding some courage she thought. She would have faltered if she had looked into his eyes. She'd never been so vocal about her feelings. But not once did she feel wrong about it. Wasn't it the truth? He had never let her feel unsafe. Even in the darkest times of her life.
A streak of lightning cast a glow on his face. Anu found him beaming with joy. And just as she wanted, she relaxed feeling better with the smile restored on his face.
They were back to discussing work and reminiscing college days. Anu shivered slightly as it began to get cold. Anuj noticed this and was about to offer her his coat which she denied and instead removed her sandals and curled up by drawing her feet up. She wrapped herself with her pallu and bundled up leaning lightly on her right. She was still settling and was yet to fasten the seat belt, the car rolled over a big boulder almost throwing her off the seat. Anuj's spare hand had already risen to break the fall. His eyes still on the road and hand on her he half yelled, 'Anu... What is this? Seat belt lagao pehle apna....'
She'd obliged immediately, his hand had not moved until she finish all her shuffling, settling and securing the belt. His eyes kept shifting from her to road through the windshield. There was panic in undertone she thought. And though she'd been yelled at by him for the first time, she was smiling.
'Sorry,' she mumbled and he grunted absent minded in response. He withdrew his hand but her pallu that she had neatly wrapped around her came undone as some of the threads had pinned to his watch. She had hastily settled down after his sudden outburst of panic resulting in this typical filmy scenario.
Only when it tugged at the saree and formed a trail from her to him, he noticed what had happened.
'Arre...sorry...sorry', he began to jerk his hand not using the other hand and concentrating on the road ahead.
She followed his hand up and down in a bid to hold it and unpin it but he kept moving rigorously.
'Ruko to..,', she yelled this time irritated that he was not stopping. 'Am doing it na ..it will damage my saree more... wait..'
He obeyed immediately and let her do the needful. She'd held his wrist in her warm hands and pulled it closer to her for her to see clearly in the dark.
She deftly undid it and removed the broken threads from his watch and backed his hand as if returning it.
Looking at his amused expressions she chuckled. 'Sorry..', he said inaudibly and pressed on the bridge of his spectacles.
'Wo ekdum girne lagi to zor se bol diya... ' he looked in her direction and found her giggling instead of being offended. He thought he'd hurt her when she snapped at him irritated.
'Haa to? Meine bhi to zor se bola...ke ruk jao...', she replied.
She had bundled up again, this time ensuring nothing disturbed him and said, 'You have never been friends with women like me it seems..'
'Matlab?', he asked curiously.
"...clumsy! Ab jheloo', she warned and laughed along with him.
Anuj observed a huge change in Anu as the day drew to an end. The hesitant and shy Anu in the morning appeared like someone else altogether in comparison to this chilled out Anu. Maybe spending the whole day together has rubbed off on her well he thought.
They had almost reached the gates of her society slowly and steadily. The city was largely flooded and it wasn't surprising to see that the narrower roads were all blocked and water logged.
Noticing the waterlog at the entrance of her society she said, 'Anuj, I'll get off here. Car andar nahi jayegi and you won't be able to drive through. Mein yaha utar jati hu, aap ghar pahunchie..'
'You are right, we need to get off here.', he said his mind still on driving through the water to park it on the side.
'Aap kyu utar raheho? You need to carry on Anuj. Mein manage kar lungi... ', she went on blabbering but it was all falling on deaf ears.
Anuj had killed the engine of the car, stepped out into rains on the side and was knocking on her side of the window after ensuring he'd laid some stones for her to step on at the door.
He opened the door with one hand and helped her out of the car with the other. She stepped on the stone carefully and moved aside to let him shut the door behind her.
`Barish to dekho Anu, aur tum keh rahi ho akele jaogi...' he said looking at her drenched head to toe.
`You are my responsibility... till I drop you home...', he continued looking at her confused expressions.
`Boss ki har employee ke liye hoti hai waise', he explained still watching her unconvinced face.
'Safai kyu dere ho...', she commented cheekily and both had already begun to make their way through the knee-deep water slowly. Stumbling here and there and both oblivious of holding hands to support the other, they went on, Anuj sheilding her through.
They were about to turn into her lane, when they both heard a loud cry from the temple nearby. They both stopped on their tracks and waited till they heard it again. Anuj simply nodded to Anu's silent question of finding out the source of the cry and both set off in that direction.
He had to help her onto the landing of the temple and didn't let go of her hand till she had stepped up.
There huddled under the stone a big brown dog cried in pain. Its hind legs were stuck in a mesh that must have been discarded and it bled from its paws where lay a big stone. It was surprising to find Anuj a little far away as he was afraid of dogs while she loved them.
The dog must have been out long as it was soaked to skin, hungry, in pain and tired. So it barked and yelped loudly in pain.
His loud growling and his sharp canines that flashed in the faint light of the bulb burning inside the temple cast a monstrous look on its face.
'Anu lets call for some help, wo kaat lega', Anuj said fearfully. He had always been scared of the dogs especially the stray. He'd had bad experiences earlier.
'He is in pain, wo mar jayega, bahut khoon nikal raha hai dekho', she pointed at his now immobile feet.
'Par Anu...', he tried reasoning knowing she won't give up. She had already dropped to her knee and was soothing it. She tried to calm him down first so it would let her free him.
Anuj watched this from distance and was scared when it barked at him loudly when he approached near it.
'Sshh...', Anu sushed him lovingly and surprisingly it obeyed. She tried to push the stone with one hand but it didn't move.
Anuj had finally gathered courage at that moment and instructed Anu to engage him while he tried to lift off the stone.
Now soaked to skin Anuj took one deep breath and lifted the stone off its feet and dragged it to drop in one the other side. The dog released a gleeful yelp and its tears rolled out while it wagged its tail thankfully. It barely moved though.
Anu carefully lifted it from the ground and cradled it in her arms. She could feel the pace of its breath diminishing. She gave a concerned look to Anuj. He held her elbow and guided her out of that place without missing a second.
Another round of loud thunder occured, scaring the little animal out of its wits. Anuj swiftly removed his coat and covered Anu's shoulder which shielded the dog too.
Both walked carefully towards her house, half way they met Nandini and Samar. Both were waiting by the gate for Anu. Spotting Anuj and Anu, Samar rushed forward and noticed Anu had held the bleeding dog carefully wrapped.
'Mummy, he kya...aap thik ho?', samar asked frantically.
Anuj knew Anu was too disturbed to answer so he gestured to wait till they were indoors.
Nandini had brought dry towels and first aid kit.
'Nandu, tu ye sab mujhe de...tu dudh roti le aa...fatafat', she ordered.
Nandu rushed indoors and appeared only a while later with the bowl of dudh roti.
Anu had promptly wiped dry the trembling dog, she cleaned its wound and did a neat job at dressing it with a band aid. Anuj helped all along following all her unsaid instructions.
Samar had managed to arrange a vet who happened to be his friend and reached there after almost 20 minutes.
Anu had begun to sneeze and felt her eyes warm. She was catching cold for sure but it could wait. She trembled too both out of cold and sadness.
'Anu, tum pehle change karlo...you will fall sick.', Anuj repeated another time.
Anu nodded and offered him a towel. She said, 'help yourself. You look terrible too.'
The vet reappeared with a satisfying grin and said, 'he will live. Aunty aapne to aaj ek nayi zindagi dedi ise...'
'Sach?', Anu's heart soared with happiness. His words kept ringing in her ears while Nandu, Samar and other kids had joined them by now hugged her and cheered her.
Anuj stood there at distance studying her happy face. The content in her eyes had filled his heart with joy too. She just knew it. His eyes on her. She looked around and spotted him standing there all by himself with folded hands and trembling. Letting her bask in the spotlight as always. Only she knew had he not been there she wouldn't have done this.
She broke free from the circle and covered the distance between him and her. Everyone's attention was back on them.
'It was YOU who saved that life today Anuj. You did that, not me.' She said sincerely. She looked around and said, 'Ye nahi hote saath to mein akeli kuch nahi kar paati.'
Anuj had been denying all the while, 'Anupamaa...please...tumne himmat dikhayi...warna mein to...'
'Kabhi to kisi ko mauka dijiye ne aapki tareef karne ka...har baar aap hi karte rahenge kya?', she countered.
Anuj bowed his head in acceptance and concession.
He looked terribly cute when he did that. Anu kept searching for his yes but he did not meet them.
Samar had insisted he changed and stayed till the rains mellowed. After a lot of insistence he stayed. Both took time to eat and change and shared their story of saving the dog. Anu sharing and Anuj listening ofcourse. She neatly described his courage skipping out the part when he was actually frightened of the dog. Picturing him braver than he was.
Time flew and it had stopped raining and Anuj took this as a cue to take leave. He didn't want to get too comfortable to create problems for Anu. Although it did surprise him that his visit was ending without any drama. He chuckled at his thought. Anu noticed this and asked, 'What is so funny?'
'Kuch nahi...I'll take your leave Anu. Take care and please rest tomorrow. Don't rush to office in the morning'
'Only if you promise to take it easy too. I'll know if you've broken the promise', she stated as a matter of fact.
'Yes mam. I promise. Will rest it out too.'
He bid goodbye to all but only Anu followed him to see him off at the gate. Just when he was leaving, 'Mr. Kapadia!', Vanraj called out from behind.
'There it comes!', Anuj sighed.
He turned on his tracks and saw him approaching. But instead of contempt on his face, his expressions were softened.
Anu looked all ready to defend. Before she could utter a word Vanraj collected Anuj's hand and said, 'Thank you for safely bringing Anupamaa home.'
Anuj looked confused. He didn't hear any sarcasm in the tone and nor did his hold on his hand appear rough. He looked at Anu curiously who just shrugged off her shoulders in puzzlement too.
'It's...its ok, Mr.Shah', Anuj said and released his hand.
Vanraj nodded politely and said, 'Pls reach safe. Good bye.'
Anu was awaiting something further too but surprisingly he dissappeared after giving Anu a warm look, leaving the two alone.
Anuj was not sure if he wanted to wait further given that there was no drama now. He simple mumbled a take care to her and went out of her sight.
Anu waited till she saw last of him turn out of the lane. She didnt realise she was grinning all the time and Samar had noticed how she looked visibly happy when with Anuj. Vanraj's sudden change was a concern but it could wait she thought.
Anu turned to return to her room, on the way she found Anuj's coat half hanging on the wall almost dry now. She remembered how carefully he had wrapped it around her. She picked it up and took it along as a souvenir of her first wish fulfilled together. Something that made HER happy - Giving life to somone.
Both oblivious of the fact that both their wishes had been fulfilled. Anuj's little secret safely hidden still in his coat pocket now Anu's room.
'Kanhaji ki leela to wohi jaane...', Anu commented as she lay down on her bed remembering the last 24 hours.
