So glad to see you both stay positive and patient. I have learned that these two are the key.

I understand why you used to be a little scared. I am not a mom but could still feel how it would feel to a parent if one's child is treated like this. Kids are innocent and learn whatever elders teach them to right? It is sad that elders think this way. It is unfortunate but there are more people in the real world like "Mrs. Gupta" than people with acceptance. Please continue to allow Rish to meet other children as even one acceptance is far batter than 10 rejections.

tvrocks, That was a nice post. ⭐️
We still avoid most noisy and crowded places. I stopped taking my son to the kids' haircut shop because of the loud music, tv, kids crying--it all drove him to screaming, and one time, when the electric razor was buzzing near his face, he went ballistic. A woman near us said very loudly, "God, why don't they do something? He looks too old to be afraid of haircuts!" Her husband replied, "There's something wrong with him. Look at him!"
That really sucked, and after that, I started taking him to my own hairdresser, who is very smart. She made him stand up and she buzzes his hair (faster that way, shorter torture time) with no problem.
He has his favorite places and activities, mostly where there are open spaces for him to run. We got him a wagon and my husband takes him for long walks every evening. When he is tired, he climbs into the wagon and rides like a king.Though he is a mostly silent kid, he is a very energetic and athletic one!
All the small shop owners in our town know him because he sprints up and down the main road with his father. He gets lollipops and candies which end up in his sister's lap.😆😆

Thanks everyone again for your support and good wishes.
Mahika, if adults are ignorant in their perceptions all we can do is try to enlighten them regarding their misconceptions, if they choose to remain that way, it's their "karma", we can only try right. Some people will never learn and there is very little we can do about it. Just brush such disgusting comments away from your mind and do what is best for you and your son's welfare, and his progress without being concerned about what others will think. If they can't have the broadminded-ness to understand more's the pity for them!
Take Care :),

You are right, Swapna, we must just focus on our kids and brush off the loonies.

We took the kids swimming this weekend. My daughter swims like a fish, and this was my son's first time in the pool. He LOVED it!!! No fear, just belly laughing and sheer joy. My daughter showed him how to kick by holding his legs, and he picked it up very quickly, with one of us holding him. We will definitely put him in a class, now that we know he is not disturbed by the noise (indoor pool, so there is a lot of echo). He swam twice a day for three days, and slept very deeply at night. Hah!👏

My husband had a pretty funny guy's perspective on Aditya's failed attempts to communicate with Vidya. Every time Aditya emotes, he groans out loud, so I finally said, "Okay, what????" and he said, "OMG, he is just playing his cards too soon. Even if he cheated and has an illegit kid, he is not helping his case by acting like a doormat. Whenever Vidya gives an inch, Aditya jumps in to say Oh, will you be Antara's mother? or Vidya, I love you so, and whatever love she might have been rediscovering for him is squelched flat once again."

I found this very interesting, so I said, "Maybe the producers are trying to portray him as a new age guy, more in tune with his feminine, expressive side." My husband fell off the couch laughing, very much like the emoticon---🤣.....

So oh well, I am forced to conclude that when men and women sit and watch the same exact soap, they still see such different things.

Is your son back to school yet, Swapna? These guys are back. We used a toy school bus to indicate that the bus would be coming, but still he cried when he stepped onto the bus, and the last view I had of him was of him with an upside down mouth😔 and wiping his tears with the heels of his hands. But I saw his teacher after school and she said he was great, and didn't have any tantrums.

How funny Mahika, that's typical guy perspective is'nt it? :)
Rish goes back to school tomorrow morning... He always does fine when he starts back, even when he was quite young. He somehow loves to go on the bus and look around him at different things. He loves his class teacher too so it makes it easier thank God!
Rish adores the water too, he has since he was about 9 months old when we first took him to a pool!!! He's not getting the hang of swimming very well though, even when we sent him for classes, but it proved a little too stimulating for him to focus on learning. We are going to try again soon and hopefully he'll get the hang of it. :)
Hope your son does better going on the bus tomorrow. :)
Take Care,
Swapna

Okay, scuse me while I vent. It seems I am fated to meet with weirdos who have inappropriate reactions to life with autism.

A few people we know were laughing at us and making derisive comments about our little vacation. Apparently we are silly for doing a local hotel getaway when we could have gone to Niagara or "somewhere more cool."

I explained very patiently that travelling very far with my son is not very easy as yet, and with his food and sensory issues, we would need a kitchen to cook for him, plus separate hotel rooms, which gets expensive, but still we are considered very mock-worthy....I guess they a) don't realize the day to day of living with more severe forms of autism, and b) think we should just stay home and not go anywhere? With no family around to visit, we do the best we can to give the kids a holiday. Gee, sorry if it's not good enough for Joe Schmoe next door....👎🏼

Thanks for letting me vent.

Mahika honey... there's a saying that my husband uses all the time when he encounters such ass***es: "When elephants walk the road, dogs always yap around their feet!!!" I think that one saying sums it up very well... people with small minds thinks in very small ways.
Who cares whether you go next door or to the moon for your vacation as long as you guys end up having fun, which you very obviously did. Soooo, let the dogs bark all they want, as long as you guys do things that work out well for you guys and most importantly for your kids.
Next time just flip them the bird with a smile on your face and tell them to take a trip to hell!

I won't even say "Hope you get to experience what we are going through" coz you know what, no autistic child deserves to live with weirdos. snicker
