In a recent interview with The Nod, Kareena Kapoor Khan opened up about her decades-long journey in Indian cinema, her evolving relationship with fame and work, and the joys she now seeks in simplicity both on-screen and off it. With over two decades in the industry, Kareena has long been one of Bollywood’s most cherished stars. But beyond the glamour and stardom, she says it's her two biggest passions, acting and food that keep her truly content. “Acting has always been a passion for me. Acting and food, that’s what brings me joy,” she shared. Her mother’s homemade Sindhi curry and crispy aloo tuk are what she calls her comfort food.
Now 44, Kareena is in a reflective and refined chapter of her life. Having worked consistently since her teens, she admits to a shift in how she approaches her career. “I’ve had the privilege of doing so many different kinds of cinema, so many roles. And even now, I don’t feel like it’s enough,” she said. “I never want to feel like I’ve done everything.”
Once known for juggling five to six films a year, Kareena is now choosing a slower pace, prioritising meaningful roles over multiple projects. “Doing less is doing more,” she said, explaining how her focus has moved toward depth over volume. Last year, fans saw her in two commercial hits, Crew and Singham Again.
This year, she will be seen in Daayra, a crime drama directed by Meghna Gulzar, opposite Malayalam superstar Prithviraj. There’s also buzz around a personal Netflix docuseries featuring Kareena and her close circle. “It’s not about quantity anymore. It’s about choosing the right roles, ones that challenge me and excite me,” she said. “I want to preserve my energy, my talent, myself.” Her mornings have become her personal sanctuary. “The first hour of my day? That’s mine,” she said fondly.
Looking back, Kareena acknowledges the whirlwind of her twenties but says she’s glad she’s no longer chasing. “I’m happy I’m not chasing anymore,” she said. “I see younger actors running from one thing to the next, and I just think: I’m glad I’m past that.” For Kareena Kapoor Khan, it’s now about presence, peace, and choosing what truly matters.
