Sunjay Kapur's last rites: Karisma Kapoor leaves for Delhi along with kids; Kareena & Saif follow

The Kapoor family came together in a moment of personal grief as actor Karisma Kapoor made her first public appearance following the untimely demise of her ex-husband, industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The business magnate, who was the chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in England on June 13 at the age of 53. Reports state that he suffered a cardiac arrest after a freak incident involving a bee sting while playing polo in London.

Karisma was seen at Mumbai’s private airport on Thursday morning, accompanied by her children Samaira and Kiaan. The trio, all dressed in solemn white, quietly made their way inside to catch their flight to Delhi. In a show of family support, Karisma’s sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan were also spotted at the airport, reportedly flying with them to attend the funeral.

The last rites for Sunjay Kapur were held at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in Delhi at 5 pm on Thursday. His family had earlier released a formal statement with details of the ceremony. A prayer meet is also scheduled on Sunday, June 22, from 4 to 5 pm at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

Sunjay Kapur is survived by his wife Priya Kapur, their two children Safira and Azarias and his children from his previous marriage with Karisma, Samaira and Kiaan. He had tied the knot with Karisma in 2003, but the couple parted ways in 2016 after a prolonged separation. Karisma was granted custody of their children. In 2017, Sunjay married model-entrepreneur Priya Sachdev. He had also previously been married to designer Nandita Mahtani.

Known for his close ties with elite circles including British royalty, Sunjay was a Doon School alumnus and held a business degree from the University of Buckingham. After the passing of his father, Dr. Surinder Kapur, in 2015, he took charge of Sona Comstar and led it as a major player in the auto components industry.

The tragic and sudden nature of his death has left friends, family, and the business world in deep shock, as loved ones gather to say a final goodbye.
