Ankit Rathi opens up about his film Bolo Hau, working with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ajay Devgn and Ali Fazal and a lot more...
Born and raised in city of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Ankit Rathi made his way to Mumbai to follow his dreams. After giving about 900 auditions (still counting), the young actor finally made his big with Fukrey where he shared screen space with actors Ali Fazal, Pulkit Samrat and Richa Chadha.
He then went on to bag another meaty role in Rohit Shetty's Singham 2 with Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Followed by his big break with Excel Entertainment’s 3 Storeys which was released in the year 2018 wherein he bagged the lead role.
In 2019, Rathi played the role of Rishi in Phulmania, a heart touching emotional tale from Jharkhand India, based on true incidents.
Cut to the present, Ankit is currently basking in the glory of his film, Bolo Hau wherein he is seen playing the lead role of a Hyderabadi local opposite debutante Jhanvi Dharanjgir. Directed by Tarun Dhanrajgir, the film got a theatrical release and has released all across on January 15, 2021.
After receiving positive response from the audience and critics alike, Ankit Rathi has opened up about the film, his lockdown and a lot more in a candid chat with india-forums.com.
Excerpts from his interview:
Sudden lockdown imposed across the nation was a shocker for everyone, so how did you spend your lockdown period?
Well initially, I was the guy who was painting and playing guitar. I also read a couple of books. But I think that was all of us in the lockdown! But on a serious note, it was a tough time and I think I learned some valuable lessons from that period.

In the film, you are playing the role of a local Hyderabadi boy. Was it difficult to learn the accent?
Well, honestly I was a little nervous at first. But then I came to Hyderabad a week prior before the shoot and I spent most of my time exploring Hyderabad, the culture, food and language.I would take conscious efforts but the people around me made it easier for me.
How was it working with actors like Ajay Devgn, Ali Fazal, Kareena Kapoor Khan in the past?
I was a young teenage guy on the sets of Singham Returns and being on Rohit Shetty’s huge set with actors like Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan helped me understand the amount of hard work, patience and dedication goes into a good film. Ali Faizal was very encouraging. He never made me feel like a newcomer, even for once in fact he shared his stories from his initial days.

Tell us about your experience of working with Tarun Sir?
Tarun Sir is a very passionate filmmaker. Being on the film sets with him is a treat because he lets you be yourself and play the character. Also, he’s a perfect combination of ease and efficiency, something which is very rare.
Do you have any dream role which you are looking forward to do?
That’s an interesting question. Although I'm the protagonist in Bolo Hau, I have a deep desire to play the antagonist in one of my films. It is one of the most challenging and interesting aspects of being an actor. I think it comes from the many south films that I’ve watched, so playing a villain in a south or a hindi film is something that has always been on my list.
When do we see you next?
So, I’ve been reading some scripts for the web show. Apart from that, I have some projects in the pipeline as well. All I can say is you will get to see me again very soon.
