Part - 1A Cellphone rang somewhere in the room, and one had to strain his/her eyes to identify the Linkin Park ringtone marking the arrival of an incoming call.
But then one can see, a figure groaning and throwing off a comforter from its head and reaching for the cellphone, which was on the bedside table, knocking some things and fumbling with it.
The female with toffee brown hair, sleepily hit the call button and placed it near her ears.
"Hello?" She spoke in a groggy voice.
"Hello? Abal, don't tell me you're still in bed? Its 7 already." The voice spoke up from the other end.
Gosh, here we go again!
"Good Morning? Ruhi?" Abal tried, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
"Yeah Whatever! First tell me, were you sleeping? Tumhe andaza hai its 7 in the morning!" Ruhi spoke up from the other end, louder than ever.
"No I wasn't, In fact jab tumhari call aayi I had just came out of the bathroom." Abal lied, but couldn't hold back that yawn.
"Yeah Right! Stop lying Abal, now get up otherwise you'll be late!" Ruhi ordered from the other side.
"Yes Ammi, I mean Mam!" Abal chuckled and ended the call. Gathering up her toffee brown hair in a bun, she pulled away the comforter from her. Throwing her dupatta around her, she stood up yawning and stretched herself.
It has almost been a daily routine. Ruhi who was perhaps the closest cousin sister she had, woke her up everyday or rather worked as an alarm clock. Abal smiled at her cousin's ways to wake her up and walked towards the bathroom.
A few minutes later, she walked out and keeping the towel aside looked at her form in the mirror. The Cream Salwar Kameez looked perfect for another day as Abal picked up the hairbrush and neatly combed those gorgeous toffee brown locks and pinned them with her hairpin.
Next? Makeup Perhaps? No! Why on earth would she require that? She hated makeup and didn't ever felt the need to put on some. And if she goes by Ruhi's words, She's Beautiful enough to make heartbeats rise, no need to be all decked up.
Abal looked at herself as if trying to find the find the truth in her cousin's words. Was she really?
She had Hazel Eyes which complimented her creamy skin tone and those gorgeous toffee brown hair which fell way beneath her waist. She had received compliments for her looks, but then she didn't take it too seriously nor let it get to her head.
Pinning up her dupatta, she finally wore what she loved the most. That white coat and on it gleamed a metal batch which read, Dr. Abal Warsi. Smiling to her reflection in the mirror, she walked out of her room to have breakfast.
Drumming her fingers on the steering wheel to an Elvis Presley number, Abal drove through the lovely streets of Lahore. Being a doctor had its perks, well you're not thinking what she is are you?
Let me clear it, Our Lovely Abal Warsi is a Veterinary Doctor.
She has been very loving, caring and passionate about animals ever since her childhood and it may have surprised too many people when she decided to take up a degree in Veterinary care and medicine. Taking her degree with some really good grades and was now working with one of the most prestigious institutes of Lahore, who worked for Animal Welfare and Their Health. While Ruhi, her cousin worked in Karachi in a multi national bank as a manager and was the only family she had.
Abal's parents had passed away in an unfortunate car accident when she was just a 5 yr old kid, after which Ruhi's mother who was her khala to be specific had brought her up and Ruhi equally, never distinguishing between them. And as Abal had grew up Samiya, Ruhi's mother had supported her each and every decision even when she decided that she would go for Veterinary studies.
Perhaps that was the reason she was so attached to Ruhi and her Sami Khala, who was no less than a mother to her.
A Good 30 Minutes Later, Abal reached her workplace which was a private veterinary hospital and most prestigious and renowned institution known for its services towards Animal Welfare.
"Good Morning! Walaikum Asalaam." She greeted everyone who wished her as she walked through the corridors to reach her cabin. After working for more than 5 Years here, this place was more like a second place to her.
Reaching her cabin, she slumped down on the chair to catch up her breath a bit, before she would begin her work for the day. There was a a knock on the door and a familiar face peeped in asking for permission.
"Come In, Dr. Saniya." Abal spoke up, smiling. In walked Dr. Saniya, who was junior to Abal yet still was a good colleague for her.
After the regular greeting, Saniya sat down placing a couple of files on the table.
"Yeh Dr. Hassan ne aapko di hain. Iss file mein woh home pet dogs ke vaccination ke liye jinn vaccines ki zarurat hai unki order list hai kyunki kal stock khatam ho gaya tha. Woh chahte hain ki aap ek baar inhe check karke apne signatures de dein phir woh final seal laga kar medical firm ko bhej denge." Saniya briefed out what she had told, while Abal nodded as she looked through the file.
"Okay, Aur kuch?" She looked up at Saniya.
"Jee. Dr. Hassan ne aapko ek ghante baad apne cabin mein bulaya hai. " Saniya added.
"Mujhe? Kyun?" Abal replied, confused.
"Pataa Nahi, keh rahein the kuch zaruri kaam hai." Saniya shrugged her shoulders.
"Ok, Thank You. I'll handle it. " she smiled and Saniya left.
An Hour Later..
Abal knocked the door of Dr. Hassan's Cabin clueless about what he wanted to talk to her. She heard his voice and came in, greeting him politely.
Dr. Hassan was a middle aged respectable man who was highly experienced in this field. He was a good natured man who respected his team and was a bit fond of Abal as she was passionate about her work.
"Sir aapne mujhe bulaya?" Abal spoke up as she sat down.
"Jee, Dr. Warsi. Aap jaanti hai main hamesha se aapke kaam ka qayal raha hoon kyunki muddaton baad maine ek aisa insaan dekhna hai jiske liye yeh pesha sirf paisa kamaane ka zariya nahi balqi unn bezubaanon ki maddad karna hai." Dr. Hassan spoke up, with a smile.
"Sir yeh aapki aalazarfi hai. Aapke under kaam karke maine yeh sab seekha hai, warna main toh sirf ek veterinary degree holder thi bas." Abal replied.
"Degree holders toh sab hote hain Dr. Warsi par aap jitna passionate apne kaam ko lekar koi nahi hota. Isliye main aaj aap par ek zimmedari dena chahta hoon kyunki aap iss team ki sabse qaabil doctor hai aur mujhe umeed hai ki aap mujhe niraash nahi karengi." He added.
"Sir main vaada karti hoon ki aapki umeedon par poora utarne ki main poori koshish karungi." Abal smiled.
"Mujhe aapse yahi umeed thi. Khair, baat yeh hai ki Lahore ke sabse bade aur khaandaani jaagirdaar Bakht family ne humse maddad maangi hai." Dr. Hassan started speaking.
"Jaagirdaron ka humse kya vaasta Sir?" She replied, confused.
"Vaasta Hai Dr. Warsi. You see unke paas aala qism ke ghode hain. Some of which are of that costliest international breed. Aaj subah mujhe Badey Sahab ki call aayi thi ki unhe ek acche veterinary doctor ki sakht zarurat hai jo unnki dekhrekh kar sakein. He was telling me, that pichle saal they carried out a vaccination process for all of them but pataa nahi aisa kya hua ki overnight unke 10-12 ghode marr gaye." He added.
"I'm sure, unn vaccines kuch aise toxic bodies hongi jinhone kaafi deadly react kiya hoga." Abal spoke up.
"Isliye main chaahta hoon ki aap uss case ko handle karein. Main Badey Sahab ko manaa nahi kar sakta kyunki he belongs to a very prestigious family and he really needs our help. " Dr. Hassan finished.
"Theek Hai Sir, main iss case ko handle karne ke liye taiyaar hoon." Abal nodded.
"Thank You, Dr. Warsi. Mujhe aapse yahi umeed thi. This is the file jiss mein saari important details hain. Aap inhe study kar lein and you can join from today itself. Main Badey Sahab ko call karke inform kar deta hoon." Dr. Hassan stood up smiling, as he shook hands with her.
"Its My Pleasure Sir." Abal smiled as she shook hands with him and walked out of his cabin.
Another Hour Later..
Though Abal had planned to go to the Bakht Haveli using her car, but Dr. Hassan had informed her that Badey Sahab himself will send down a car and a driver to pick and drop her. Not only this, from now on she would be picked and dropped by them to avoid any complications.
And surely enough she spotted a gleaming black BMW drove up to her. A middle aged plump man got out who introduced himself as Daud to her, ushered her in with politeness and respect. All of this amused her a bit as Daud wasn't a bad company at all, he sang some local Punjabi Folksongs in his heavy voice and told her some jokes too which were funny.
He then asked Abal as to how she dealt with animals, which surprised him to a great extent when she told him.
"O Madamjee, aap kamaal ho. Kitne acche se saare jaanwaron ko sambhal lete ho? Humse toh insaan hi sambhale nahi jaate!" He spoke up making her laugh.
"Daud Bhai, jaanwaron ko sambhalna insaanon se aasaan hota hai. Jaanwar toh bezubaan hote hain, agar aap unhe pyaar doge toh woh bhi aapko utna hi pyaar denge. Par Insaan? Insaan toh pyaar karne wale ko bhi nafrat hi deta hai." She replied with a smile.
"Aaey gal toh aapki bilqul sahi hai jee!" Daud nodded after which he went onto sing another punjabi song.
Abal noticed that they had now entered the quiet, untouched country side of Lahore. The Buildings and tall towers were disappearing fast and long wide stretches of green patches filled the void. She didn't have an idea that, she would ever have to visit this side of Lahore owning to her work.
Daud slowed down the speed and she guessed that they might be reaching their destination. And sure enough, she could spot a huge brick mansion as Daud rounded off the car through a fountain that greeted the visitors and parked the BMW in spacious parking space.
He hurriedly got out and before Abal could open the door, he did that for her and she thanked him for being so kind.
Daud then assisted her inside as Abal looked around. The place sure seemed like belonging to the oldest family of landholders.
Abal walked into what seemed like an huge opening and saw a man, in his 70's sprawled out on a sofa smoking what seemed like a cigar.
"Badey Malik? Yahi hain woh doctor." Daud spoke up and that man got up from the sofa, walking towards her.
"Aap hi ka intezaar ho raha tha. Dr?" He spoke up but got a bit confused at her name.
"Abal. Dr. Abal Warsi." She replied politely.
"Dr. Warsi. Aap se milkar bohot khushi huyi. Dr. Hassan ne aapki kaafi tareef ki hai mujhe. Ab mujhe yeh yaqeen hai ki humare beshkeemti ghode aap aapki dekhbhal mein mehfuz hai." Badey Sahab spoke, taking a shot of his cigaar.
"Aur main hoon, Sikander Bakht. Bakht Khaandan ka sabse bada aur purana banda. Yahaan sab mujhe Badey Sahab bulate hain, aap bhi mujhe yahi bula sakti hain. Aur aaj se aap humaari mehmaan hain, Daud? Jaa ke saare mulazimon se keh do ki Dr. Warsi ki khidmat mein koi kami nahi honi chahiye." He added.
"Jee, Badey Maalik." Daud replied bowing a little.
"Aapka inn sab ke liye shukriya Badey Sahab. Main aapko shikayat ka mauqa nahi dungi." Abal replied politely, but though truth be told. She wasn't much impressed with this old man who seemed too much at ease and frightened her a bit with his ways. Well, Guess when she'll keep to her work she wouldn't have to face him much.
Abal was listening to him when she spotted a figure, crossing the verandah that was just at Sikander Bakht's back. Thinking it to be some family member, she was about to brush it off when Jahangir called that figure up.
"Wali? Wali come up here." He spoke and Abal could see that figure walking up towards them.
Abal could now see him clearly as he came and stood beside Jahangir. Long Black locks falling up to the ears, Chocolate Brown Eyes combined with a milky skin tone, A powerful frame and a good height.
"Dr. Warsi, yeh hai mera pota Wali, Wali Bakht. Iss khaandaan ka iklauta waaris aur Wali, yeh hain Dr. Abal Warsi, aaj se humare saare bezubaanon ki zimmedari inki. She's a well reputed veterinary doctor aur Dr. Hassan ki team ki sabse qaabil member hain."
"Asalaam Walaikum." Abal greeted him politely.
"Walaikum Salaam." Wali replied and Abal hadn't even imagined that she would be blessed with a voice as rich as a molten chocolate.
It wasn't that, his baritone didn't suit his personality. It did, he was maddeningly goodlooking even though right now he was simply dressed in a casual denim shirt and jeans. Abal wondered if he had a lover who would be the luckiest woman alive or a string of women ready to be in bed with him?
Wait! Hold! What was she even thinking? She wasn't drunk surely, then why did she have to think about his love life? She was here only for her work and did she just called him Good looking? Wow!! Where did that come from?
Abal breathed a bit as she brought her line of thinking back to the sane self and noticed that she wasn't alone, Wali that was his name right? was looking at her too? Probably the same what she had been? But it was her hard luck that she never really has been attracted to a man.
Wali excused himself owning to some work and Abal let out a sigh of relief. She couldn't say that she disliked him, rather he had sparked her attention yet there was something intimidating about him which she couldn't pinpoint. What? His Eyes maybe? Those chocolate orbs were deep, man.
As Daud drove her back to her home as she had to start work from tomorrow, she only hoped that working here didn't prove to be as difficult as she was thinking it to be. After all, she didn't want to let Dr. Hassan down. If only one knew, what the future holds.
